Philip inheirited 127 acres of his father's tract along Little North Mountain and in 1774 obtained a patent to an additional tract adjoining his other land. He & his wife, Catherine, "late of Shenandoah Co." sold their land to his cousin, Philip PITMAN, 2 Nov 1781. He and Catherine were probably already living in Fayette Co., PA at that time. He is recorded as an inhabitant of Fayette Co. in the 1780s & the 1790 census of Pennsylvania lists him as a resident of Georges Township, Fayette Co., near the MAURER/MASONS and his brother Melchior. There was one male in his family over 16, one male under age 16 and four females in his family. His daughters were baptized by ministers in the Reformed Church in Fayette Co. and sponsors were his brother Melchior and wife and brother-in-law and sister Reinhart PUNDSTEIN and Margaret (RTUFF, Church records)

MAURER anglicized his name to MASON and died in Columbiana Co., Ohio in 1812.

WILL: John "MYRER" is listed among the heirs of John Nicholas BAKER in the settlement of his estate in 1766. Further records including the will of John MASON in Ohio prove that she was the daughter of J. N. BAKER.

The MAURER/MASON family moved to Fayette Co., PA about 1768 and lived in German Twp. About 1774, John MASON built Ft. Mason which served as an important defense of the frontier at the time of the American Revolution. The town of Mauertown, PA was laid off by members of this family in 1798. About 1802, John & Abbie MASON went with some of their children to Unity Twp., Columbiana Co., OH. A number of MASON descendants have been collecting data on the family and Dr. James FREED of Delaware, OH has generously shared this, including much of the above information.
