Note: It appears this family were fairly creative in reporting their ages on the censuses -- their calculated birth year slipped forward considerably by the 1900 census. DLB 2009. Frederick Ashton began military service in June 1861 Union Army, Co. C, 18th Regiment, per 1890 Veterans Schedule, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio ED 92, p.2, line 21. He ended military service in May 1864.
