The calculated year slipped in later censuses.^1,2 He married Jane H. Mead, daughter of Thomas Holmes Mead and Mary Ann Little, about 1865 in Licking Co. (probably), OH, Six children born, three living as of 1900 census, but five children, and three living, as of 1910 census.^3,2,4 Frederick Ashton died on 3 April 1917.

He was buried in April 1917 in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Licking Co., OH, Find A Grave Memorial# 85996804.

Note: It appears this family were fairly creative in reporting their ages on the censuses -- their calculated birth year slipped forward considerably by the 1900 census. DLB 2009. Frederick Ashton began military service in June 1861 Union Army, Co. C, 18th Regiment, per 1890 Veterans Schedule, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio ED 92, p.2, line 21. He ended military service in May 1864. He lived in June 1870 in Union Twp., Licking Co., OH.³ He lived in 1880 in Garrett, DeKalb Co., IN.⁵ Occupation: Railroad Conductor in 1880 in Garrett, DeKalb Co., IN.⁵

Note: A granddaughter, Adelia B. Boyle, is found living with the Frederick Ashton family in the 1900 census. It is not apparent which daughter was the mother -- one would suspect that she was a daughter of Cora.
