Derrick Shawnta’ Smith was born on September 2, 1979. He departed this life on December 18, 2004. He is the son of Bobbie Smith, Johnson City and James L. (Jackie) Hall, Jonesborough, TN. Derrick was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Jonesborough, TN and a student at E.T.S.U. Survivors include others than his parents are: grandmother, Loretta Smith, Johnson City, TN; three sons, Brayden Smith, Jonesborough, TN, Jeremiah Hoit, Johnson City, TN and Tyrique Kirkland, Ohio; two daughters, Amani Smith, Jonesborough, TN, and Drucella Edwards, Erwin, TN; two brothers, Kenneth (Shasta Neal) Smith and Rodney Hall, Johnson City, TN; two sisters, Yuanelle (Nathaniel) Leach, Baltimore, MD, and Angela (Phillip) Bridwell, Atlanta, Ga; a god sister/cousin, Demia Smith, Johnson City, TN; his fiancee, Mary Devault, Jonesborough, TN; extended family, Edward Devault, Betty Devault and the Devault family, Jonesborough, TN; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the Bethel Christian Church, Jonesborough, TN with Pastor Vincent Dial officiating. Burial to follow at Washington County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. at the church prior to the services and at other times at the home of his mother, Bobbie Smith, 302 West 9th Ave. Words of comfort can be sent to the family on our Web site.
