OBITUARY - Gene Carroll "Bob" Akins (father of William Robert Akins); Lawrence Journal-World (LJWorld.com), Wednesday, August 14, 1996
Services for Gene Carroll "Bob" Akins, 68, Garnett, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Akins died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at Garnett Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1928, in Humansville, Mo., the son of Curtney Leslie and Harriet Ann Sayre Akins.
He grew up in and attended schools in Humansville, Mo. He was a sheet metal worker.
Mr. Akins moved to Lawrence in 1960 from Kansas City, Mo., and worked for Norris Brothers Plumbing then for Rhodes Heating and Air Conditioning, retiring in 1987. He moved to Garnett in March 1988 from Lawrence. He was a handyman and loved children.
He married Marsha Kay Ward on Dec. 30, 1985. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Steven Akins, Stover, Mo.; five daughters, Carol McGrew, Clarks Hill, S.C., Linda Haddad, Tustin, Calif., JoAnn Spicer, Kansas City, Mo.; Jacklyn Mayhew, Stover, Mo., and Chris Hobbs, Lawrence; two brothers, William R., Akins, Ventura, Calif., and George Akins, Oxnard, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Kathleen Akins, in July of 1962 and a son, William Akins, in 1987.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and until the 2 p.m. services Friday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Gabriel-Timbrook
Announcement is made of the engagement of Monica J. Gabriel and Timothy P. Timbrook, both of Green Rock. She is the daughter of Thomas Gabriel, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jean Gabriel, 615 9th St., Silvis. He is the son of Henry and Shirley Timbrook, 807 2nd St., Green Rock.
The couple will be married at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Silvis United Methodist Church. Relatives and friends are invited to the ceremony and a reception at 5 in the Croatian Crest Club, Moline.
Both the bride-elect and prospective bridegroom graduated from United Township High School. She is a member service representative for IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, and he is attending Black Hawk College.
OBITUARY
Timothy P. Timbrook, 31, of 1019 7th St., Colona, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church of the Nazarene, Colona. Burial is in Dayton Cemetery, Colona.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Services, Colona. A memorial fund will be established.
He was born Jan. 29, 1970, in Rock Island, the son of Henry and Shirley Hurling Timbrook. He married Bobbi Esparza in October 1988 in Rock Island. He married Monica Gabriel Aug. 17, 1996, in Silvis.
He was employed as a general laborer. He enjoyed computers, music, his three dogs, tigers, stock cars, and collecting Mark Martins NASCAR memorabalia.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Monica, Colona; daughters, Tamarah and Samantha Timbrook, Colona; parents, Henry and Shirley Timbrook, Colona; grandmother and stepgrandfather, Wilma and Dale Hayes, Milan; brothers, Tom and Angie Timbrook, Tucson, Ariz., and Ted Timbrook, Colona; and three nephews.
