Memorial services were held for Betty Shaffer Sept. 7 at the Bay City United Methodist Church.

Betty Jane Shaffer was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Kent to George and Dolores (Fenwick) McKay, and died Aug. 31, 2007, in Portland at the age of 79.

Mrs. Shaffer grew up and attended school in Vernonia as a youth. Later her family moved to Bay City. Mrs. Shaffer married Lenley Shaffer Nov. 17, 1943, in Riverside, Calif. She worked in the Kaiser shipyards in Portland during World War II and later at the Oyster Plant in Bay City on several occasions.

Mrs. Shaffer was active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the 1970s.

She is survived by her son, Todd Shaffer and his wife Kristi of Gladstone; sister, June Mapes of Port Orchard, Wash.; three brothers, George McKay of Bay City, Barney McKay of Eugene and Mike McKay of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenley Shaffer, and sister, Colleen Hains.

A private inurnment will be at Bay City IOOF Cemetery.

Arrangements in care of Waud's Funeral Home, Tillamook.
