John Marshall Thomas, Jr., died on 1 January 1961 in Henry Co. (probably), VA.

Betty Ann Bowman, 79, of Bassett, passed away September 22, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home. She was born May 23, 1936 in Abington, to John Marshall Thomas and Mary Louise Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John M. Nichols, and sister, June Thomas. She is survived by daughters, Mary Kathy Tolliver, Margie Price-Savedge, son, James "Ed" Nichols, sisters, Karen Orr, Bonnie Sue Bowman, brothers, John Thomas, Jr., Sherman Thomas, James Thomas, Lewis Thomas, and Tony Thomas, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Henry Memorial Park.

CEDAR FALLS -- Marcella Kitzmiller, 74, of 3120 Big Woods Road, died Wednesday, July 25, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of respiratory failure.

She was born July 18, 1916 in Shell Rock, daughter of Henry J. and Mary Ellen Sansenbach Van Hauen. She married James D. Kitzmiller on Dec. 21, 1945 in Vero Beach, Fla.

Mrs. Kitzmiller received her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and taught school in the Belmond School system. Prior to World War II she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. She served in the Navy during World War II and up to retirement in 1964 was a bookkeeper for Cedar Falls Furniture Upholstery Co.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Paul E. of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Jean K. Sterling of Ankeny; and two sisters, Evelyn Wilkes of Terrell, Texas and Beulah Martin of Newell; she was preceded in death by a son, Jack in infancy; and a brother, Orlow Van Hauen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no visittion.

Grace Kitzmiller

Grace Emma Kitzmiller, 70, of 1670 Reed Creek Drive, Bassett, died March 7, 2001 at her home.

Born April 4, 1930 in Sullivan County, Tenn., her parents were the late Sarah Wyatt Phillips and the late James Butler Phillips. Also, preceding her in death were brothers, Albert and Wiley Phillips; and three sisters, Ruth and Ethel Phillips and Edith Arnold.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.

Surviving are her husband, Keyes Kitzmiller of the home; four sons, Robert Kitzmiller of Danville and Randy Kitzmiller, Rickey Kitzmiller and David Kitzmiller, all of Bassett; two sisters, Odlean Cox of Bristol, Tenn., and Edna Shaffer of Barbton, Ohio; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six nephews; and five nieces.

The family will receive friends at Bassett Funeral Service from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home at 1670 Reed Creek Drive, Bassett.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel at Bassett Funeral Service with the Rev. James Thomas of the Open Door Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.



She was buried in March 2001 in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Henry Co., VA.

BRISTOL, Tenn. - Mary "Oddie" Phillips Cox, age 77, 1237 Carolina Ave., went to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, in the Greystone Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Washington County, Va., a daughter of the late James Butler and Sarah Mae Wyatt Phillips. She lived her life in the Bristol

area, and was a charter and very faithful member of True Faith Tabernacle, where she taught Sunday School for several years. She was a retired employee of Imperial Reading and Big Jack Manufacturing Co.

She is survived by: son, Ray Cox and wife, Paula of Bristol Tennessee; grandchildren, Heather and husband, Mark Sluder, Sabrina Cox and Melanie Stone;

step- grandchildren, Lee Rapson, Isaac Rapson, Jennifer Dhoughe and husband, Jeff; step-great-grandchildren, Harley and Jason; sister-in-law, Virginia Phillips; brother-in-law, Keys Kitzmiller; several nieces and nephews; and

special friend, Helen Jackson.

Funeral services will be held 7:00 Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jess Neal, Rev. Tony Hamby and Rev. Jimmy Phillips

officiating. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Wyatt Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of True Faith Tabernacle. The family will receive
