Ethel Hansen Appenzellar, born 4/23/1911, passed away 8/21/2011. She celebrated her 100th birthday in good health with family and friends.

Ethel was the last surviving grandchild of Hans Ludwig Hansen who brought his family of six children and wife Carolina to America in 1883. After settling in America, they had four more children. Ethel's husband, Edgar Price Appenzellar, preceded her in death in 1976. Ethel had a long career working with Chancellor's office at UCLA.

She is survived by four nieces: Linda Stockman of Utah, Laurie Meinke of CA, Judith Freeland of Michigan, and Karen Hansen of CA, and many extended family and friends. She was loved by many and will be sorrowfully missed.

Mr. Joseph Benjamin Price, Jr., 97, of Frederick, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the College View Center. Joe married his loving wife Caroline Elizabeth Schultz Price on December 19, 1941, and they shared over 72 wonderful years together.

He was born in Frederick on November 27, 1916, the son of the late Joseph Benjamin Price, Sr., and Nellye Cook Price.

Joe graduated from Frederick High School in 1933 and proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. He was retired from the Federal Government, having worked at Fort Detrick and the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.

Joe was an avid sports fan, having played recreational and semipro baseball for the Frederick Hustlers. He refereed football and basketball and umpired baseball. He was inducted into the YMCA's Alvin G. Quinn Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.

He was a life-long member of All Saints Episcopal Church and a member of St. Mary's Chapter. He was also a life member of Francis Scott Key American Legion Post # 11, and held the Degree of Chevalier in the Order of DeMolay.

Joe and Caroline loved to travel to Europe, Mexico and through most of the United States.

Joe is survived, in addition to his wife, by one daughter, Carole Lynne Price, of Frederick, and her partner, Alain Letort, of Washington, D.C..

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Frederick. The Rev. W. Earl Mullins, will officiate. The private interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Arrangements are with the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Online condolences may be shared at www.keeneybasford.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.

Frank Sanborn was born June 17, 1872, at Manchester, N.H., son of John A. and Susan (Blake) Sanborn. He came to Iowa in infancy with his parents and lived on a farm in Afton Township, where he grew to manhood.

In 1893, he married Miss Mary Mummert and to this union were born 1 son and 5 daughters, Leon B. Sanborn; Jennie Wachtler; and Leta G. Sanborn, all of Fresno, Ca., and Carrie Lewis of Sac City, Ia., and Ruby B. Lane and Ruth Stivers of Cherokee, Iowa. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and 1 sister Jennie Sanborn Molyneux.

Funeral services were held on Wed. July 23, 1947, at the Boothby Funeral Home and interment was made in Afton Township Cemetery. Rev. J .E. Feller officiated.
