Erve Neuschwanger, 47, of Mount Carroll, died at 2 p.m. Friday June 8, 1945 in St. Francis Hospital, Freeport, which he entered Monday as a medical patient. Death was the result of an overdose of phenol barbital, a medicine taken by Neuschwanger, who had been in ill health for some time.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Frank Funeral Home in Mount Carroll, the Rev. Stanley A. Birdsall officiating, and burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Son of Christian and Mathilda (Souders) Neuschwanger, he was born July 12, 1897 at Mount Carroll. He married Esther Smith of Mount Carroll on March 7, 1918. They moved from their farm to the city of Mount Carroll last fall. Surviving are his widow; two sons, Harry and Glenn, both of Mount Carroll; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Kosher of Lanark and Doris at home; two grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Hattie Fulrath and Mrs. John Jones, both of Mount Carroll, Mrs. Edith Robbe of Savanna, and Mrs. Hugo Kholbry and Mrs. George Mitchell, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and four brothers, Charles, Ward, Earl, and Roy, all of Mount Carroll.



He was buried in June 1945 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL, Findagrave #74749544.

Gordon B. Smith, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away at The Atrium on Thursday, August 9, 2007 in Rockford, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with Pastor Mark Harkness of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home. Memorials have been established for the Mt. Carroll Methodist Church and Friends of the Mt. Carroll Public Library.

Gordon was born on September 30, 1918, the son of Benjamin and Edith (Buckwalter) Smith in Mt. Carroll. He attended Mt. Carroll schools and graduated with the Class of 1936. Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon his discharge, he returned to Mt. Carroll and married Maxine Smith on May 30, 1946. Maxine died March 11, 1998. He was elected to seven terms as Circuit Clerk of Carroll County and served in that capacity for 31 years, holding the office of President of the Illinois Circuit Clerk's Association in 1975. After retiring from public service, he worked as a real estate broker and appraiser until 1997.

Gordon was a 60 year member of the Mt. Carroll American Legion, and a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church and the Mt. Carroll Cyrus Masonic Lodge. He was an avid tennis player and golfer and enjoyed reading and playing the piano and organ. He was a lifelong Illini, White Sox Baseball, and Chicago Bears Football fan and took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends.

Gordon will be deeply missed by his daughter, Barbara Smith Brierton, and granddaughter; Raegan Brierton, both of Mt. Carroll; his brother, David (Kay) Smith of Sever Hills, Florida; his sister-in-law, Gladys Smith, of Cambridge, Illinois and his brother-in-law, Gene Teeter of Mt. Carroll.

In addition to his wife, Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wilda Smith Miller.



He was buried in August 2007 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL, Findagrave #20893460.

Dallas G. Warne, 68, of Tipton route, 4, succumbed unexpectedly at 5:45 a.m. today in Tipton county Hospital where he had been admitted Sunday. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Hobbs Christian Church with Rev. Joseph stump officiating and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Leatherman-Morris Funeral Home or at the church where the body will lie in state for one hour prior to services. Mr. Warne was born near Hobbs Nov. 13, 1894, son of Charles H. and Ida (Hobbs) Warne. He was married Dec. 26, 1915 in Tipton to the former Eulalia Seright and the couple had moved to the Hobbs area in 1955. He was a member of the Hobbs Christian church, Austin Lodge 128, F & A.M., the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army and had retired from service with the Veterans administration in 1951. He had served in both World Wars. Survivors include the wife, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ava Lee) Lewis, of Ellsworth Air Force base in South Dakota and Mrs. Georgia Lee Petty , of McCarroll, Illinois; a son, John C. Warne, of Dearborn, Michigan; two brothers, Kelsie R. Warne, of Greencastle and Allan H. Warne, of Indianapolis and nine grandchildren.

DR. JOHN H. PAGE, physician and surgeon, came to Neosho Rapids, Kan., in June, 1857, where he remained two years and engaged in prospecting. He then returned to New York State, and in the spring of 1863, again came to Kansas, and entered the army as Acting Assistant Surgeon, United States army, remaining in the service until the close of the war, being stationed in the general hospital at Fort Scott. In 1865, he again returned to New York, and attended medical lectures, and 1866, located at Como, Whiteside Co., Ill., remaining there until the fall of 1867, at that time locating again at Neosho Rapids. In 1873, he entered the regular army as Acting Assistant Surgeon, and was stationed in that capacity at Fort Dodge two years and ten months, and subsequently at Fort Reno, Indian Ter., Fort Supply, Indian Ter., Larned, Kan., and Fort Wallace, Kan., until 1879, when he resigned, returning to Neosho Rapids, remaining there until he located in Emporia, March 1, 1882, where he has been associated with Dr. L. D. Jacobs since the middle of March of the same year. Dr. Page was born in Orleans County, N. Y., February 21, 1837. He moved while a lad with his father's family to Genesee County, N. Y., and subsequently studied medicine with Dr. Root, at Batavia, attend the medical department of the Buffalo University, and graduated from Berkshire Medical College, at Pittsfield, Mass. He was married in Elba, Genesee Co., N. Y., to Isabelle F. Barrett, of Elba. They have three children - Ones F., Joseph B., and Ethel.
