Obituary (Findagrave.com):

The Monterey Herald, 9-10 March 2008

PLACERVILLE, CA - Margaret A. Bartlett, 95, was born in the family home in Twin Falls, Idaho, to David and Mary Redman on July 6, 1912. Around 1916, Margaret along with sisters, Kathryn and Dorothy, and brother, Ronald, moved with their parents to the Modesto, California area.

Her father had a fruit ranch and farm animals. Margaret attended school in Modesto, graduating from Modesto High School in 1929. While in high school she met her future husband, Harold H. Bartlett. They both played in the Modesto High School band under the direction of Professor Frank Mancini. Margaret played the bass clarinet. Harold played the clarinet. Margaret won a national music contest in Joliet, Illinois, and two state contests on her bass clarinet. She received an award for outstanding achievement in music upon graduation from high school.

She married Harold in 1932 and attended Modesto Junior College and San Jose State College. She had three children: Maureen (1934), Bud (1916), and Linda (1942). Before World War II, Harold and Margaret lived in Tulare, California, where Harold was a school music teacher. In 1940 they lived in Carmel, where Harold taught again in the public school system. Margaret was a homemaker and mother. In 1944 the family moved back to Modesto. While Harold taught at Ceres High School, he owned and operated the Modesto Music Store. Margaret helped in the music store, reared her three children, played her bass clarinet in the Modesto Band, worked in her flower garden, read, cooked, sewed and began playing the organ. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, and she belonged to a ladies' group

called "The Dirty Dozen." These ladies were all friends and their children grew up and went to school together.

In 1960 Margaret and Harold semi-retired to Pebble Beach. They opened a shop in Carmel called "Treasurecrafts" and added "Bartlett Music." They traveled to different countries on their vacations. Finally, in 1974 they fully retired at Lake Almanor, California, where Margaret took up golf lessons, playing on the 9-hole golf course at the time. She also joined "The Firesirens," a group of ladies who raised funds for the local fire department. Margaret and Harold liked to fish and ride their bikes and go for walks.

On April 21, 1980, Harold passed away. Eventually, Margaret moved to Georgetown, California, to be near her daughter, Linda Gottschalk. Subsequently, she moved to Placerville. She joined the Assembly of God Church, currently known as Green Valley Community Church. She went on visitations with friends of the church and eventually served as a greeter on Sundays.

In the last four years of her life, she lived with her daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Daryl, in Placerville. She passed away on Tuesday afternoon, February 19, 2008. Margaret had a good and full life. She had a loving husband of almost 48 years, and three children who loved and appreciated her. Her ten grandchildren have wonderful memories, as well, of their grandma and grandpa.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Margaret at Green Valley Community Church at 3500 Missouri Flat Road, Placerville, on Friday, March 14, 2008, at 1pm. A reception will follow the service at the church.

She was buried in February 2008 in Georgetown Pioneer Cemetery, Georgetown, El Dorado Co., CA, Findagrave #110303019.
