Vera L. Fewlass passed away June 5, 2012 peacefully at her home in Manton. She was 98 years old.
Vera was born to Henry and Grace (Bever) Lovell November 7, 1913 at the home of her grandparents, Lewis and Elizabeth Lovell near Manton.
She attended school in Jennings, Moran, Cut River, and Manton, graduating from Manton Agricultural School with the Class of 1933.
She married Leon Ardis Fewlass in 1934 in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Manton. They farmed in Manton Liberty Valley for many years, moving to Manton following a fire in their home.
Vera loved her family and church. She enjoyed going to all the family and class reunions. She helped organize the Manton School Alumni Reunions. She liked working her gardens, sewing, reading, fishing, and writing cards and letters to all of her many family members and friends. She looked forward to the parade and riding the ferris wheel at the Manton Harvest Festival each year.
She is survived by 10 of her 13 children, Joan (Robert) Hoover, Gail A. Fewlass, Donna Fockler, Neta (Alan) Troxel, Van D. (Teressa) Fewlass, all of Manton, Leon L. "Spike" (Terri) Fewlass of Sudersville, Md. Vicki (Dale) McGee of Whitehall, Mo., Charles (Jackie)Fewlass of Nolanville, Texas and John Walter (Ester) Fewlass of Lakewood Calif., five of her children are military veterans. And many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace Lovell; her husband, Leon Fewlass; three children, Nancy Jane Fewlass, Lynn Henry Fewlass, and Calvin Joe Fewlass during the Vietnam War. Also two sisters, Flossie Erickson, Oneta Graham; and one brother, Lewis B. Lovell.
Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Manton School Band Boosters or Manton First Christian Church in the name of Vera Fewlass, 514 W. Griswold Street Manton, MI 49663.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hall-Holdship Funeral Home, Manton.

Obituary (Findagrave.com):
Calvin, the son of Leon Fewlass deceased and Vera Fewlass of Manton MI, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on Auguste13 1968, in Detroit MI. He arrived in Vietnam on February 27 1969, and was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On the last day of Operation FORSYTHE GROVE, during prep fires for the eventual extraction of Marines from the field, because of an error of deflection an errant artillery round impacted near the Marines defense positions near the hamlet of Minh Tan in Dai Loc District Quang Nam. PFC Fewlass was killed as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds from the friendly artillery fire.
