Mrs. Hazel L. Shenk, 97 of Wyalusing, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the home of her son Larry, with her loving family at her side.

Born in Fort Wayne, IN, a daughter of the late Phillip Gustave Habig and Helena Augusta Pawlisch Habig. She graduated from high school in Ft. Wayne and moved east with her family. She was the oldest of four children, two brothers and one sister, all of whom predeceased her.

She was married to Wilmer Shenk, who predeceased her on June 20, 1998. She moved to Bradford County in 2008.

Hazel was a member of Vincent Mennonite Church, and was an active member in Happy Helpers Sewing Circle, the youth class, and GMSA (Girls Missionary Service Auxiliary). She expressed her love for flowers and gardening as a longstanding member of the Coventryville Garden Club. Hazel enjoyed crafting and cooking and all forms of sewing. She will always be remembered for her hospitality, her teaching spirit, and for bringing her family together around her table fostering many memories of love and laughter.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Allen (Brenda) Shenk, Wyalusing, Roger Lee (Betty) Shenk, Morgantown; eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and nine greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the Vincent Mennonite Church, 39 Seven Stars Road, Spring City, PA and interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions be sent to the Billy Graham Crusade, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.

Swartz. - Myrtie E. (Wenger), beloved wife of Samuel D. Swartz, was born in Petoskey, Mich., Oct. 4, 1880; died in Chester Co., Pa., Jan. 1, 1921; aged 40 y. 2 m. 28 d. When 3 years old her father, Benjamin Wenger, took her to Virginia where she was placed in the home of her aunt and uncle, Anna and Jonas H. Blosser, with whom she made her home until Dec. 24, 1902, when she was united in marriage to Samuel D. Swartz of Rockingham Co., Va. In February, 1903, they moved to Allen Co., Ohio, where they lived happily together for 18 years. To this union were born 3 sons and 7 daughters (Paul, Jonas, Chester, Mary, Martha, Fannie, Ruth, Anna, Laura, and Beulah). One daughter preceded her in death. March 22, 1920 the family moved to Chester Co., Pa. About 3 years ago she became afflicted with the dread disease, consumption. In the last several months she suffered much which she bore with Christian fortitude. She leaves husband, 9 children, and a brother. At the age of 13 she united with the Mennonite Church and lived a consistent member until death. On Jan. 5, 1921, the remains were buried in Vincent Cemetery near Spring City, Pa.
