Obituary - Kenneth E. Young

Kenneth Elmer Young, son of William H. [ensley] and Bertha [May] Robbins Young, was born in Bedford January 28, 1906, and died in Omaha May 3, 1943, at the age of 37 years, 3 months and 15 days. The greater part of his life was spent in Bedford. At the age of 10 years the family moved to Hopkins and a few years later to Lincoln, Nebr. Kenneth attended the Lincoln Automotive School, then assisted his father in auto repair work in Lincoln and later in Bedford.

In the spring of 1942 he attended the Lakeview training school and obtained employment at the Eaton Sheet Metal Works in Omaha. While at his work there he was stricken with paralysis on April 5. He was taken to the hospital and later to his home, where he was cared for by his wife and his parents. After four weeks of patient suffering he passed away.

Kenneth Young and Dorothy Douglas were married Dec. 24, 1930. Besides his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Young, he leaves a son William Leroy, and a stepdaughter, Josephine Douglas; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Young; three brothers, Archie of Maryville, Marion of Camp Claiborne, La., Wilber [Wilbur] of Bedford; one sister, Mrs. Florence Struble [Strubel] of Omaha; his grandmother, Mrs. Elmer Robbins of Bedford: two uncles, Floyd Robbins of Bedford and Frank Young of Milwaukee, Wisc; one aunt, Clara Robbins of Bedford. Kenneth will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.

The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J. Overholt. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.

Billie J. Wilmes, 86, passed January 31, 2013. Visitation will be Monday, February 4 from 1-2 pm at D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 pm. Billie took great pride in her appearance throughout her life. She was always presentable at every occasion and her family will remember her that way. She unconditionally loved her children and grandchildren and it gave her great happiness to spend time with them. She had a wonderful heart and also had a great love for all animals.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; children, Debra, Richard, and Stacey; sister, Vickie Thomas and brother, Terry Young. She is survived by her brother, Jack (Barbara) Young; grandchildren, Rick (Jennifer) and Trevor; great grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler as well as other family and friends including Pat (Sherrie) Thomas and family and Susie, Jake and Jaxen Gibson who will all miss Billie dearly.

Frank R. Wilmes, 82, Excelsior Springs MO, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at his home.

A memorial service to honor Frank's life will be at 2pm Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs. Cremation to follow. Burial will be at a later date.

Frank was born July 8, 1926 in Maryville MO, son of Emma and Francis Wilmes.

He served in the U.S Navy during WWII. He was in the trucking industry most of his life until retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife Billie; a daughter Stacey Wilmes Clay; grandsons: Rick F. Wilmes and wife Jennifer and Trevor A. Clay; one great-granddaughter Kaylee Jane Wilmes; two sisters, Maxine "Mac" Moran and Virginia Suma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah Ann, a sister Emma Dee Carroll, brothers Robert and Bill, and son Richard R. Wilmes.

Frank will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Cathy Jane (Clevenger) Wilmes Roberts, age 61, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Northcare Hospice House.

Cathy was born February 19, 1957, in Liberty, Missouri, to Claude and Rosalee (Duncan) Clevenger. She was a 1975 graduate of Winnetonka High School. Cathy was married to Richard Wilmes for 20 years and had one son, Rick Wilmes. Cathy worked at Mid-America Merchandising for over 16 years. She was extremely thankful for the kindness displayed by her boss, Tom Barnett, during her last few months.

Cathy was an amazing mother and grandmother as well as a kind-hearted aunt, friend, and co-worker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and visiting with her sister.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Rosalee (Duncan), and husbands, Richard Wilmes and Pat Roberts.

Cathy is survived by her son, Rick Wilmes (Jennifer), Excelsior Springs; a sister, Jackie Ballard (David), Camden; a brother, Rick Clevenger; grandchildren, Kaylee and Tyler; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Cathy touched are invited to the Flack Memorial Church, 1300 Tracy Avenue, Excelsior Springs, Mo., for visitation from 10 to 1 1a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 with service following; burial at Old New Garden South Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to return to the church after the graveside service to reminisce and share a lunch in memory of Cathy as she had requested.

Mr. Young was born September 16, 1937 in Clarinda, IA, the son of Archie and Hazel (Friede) Young.

He married his best friend, Karen Musgrove on August 23, 1957. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Young was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1955 and a former member of the Air National Guard. He was a printer for 44 years, working for the King City Tri-County Newspaper for 8 years and the St. Joseph News-Press Gazette for 36 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and Kappa Class, Local #40 International Typographical Union for 44 years; and the International Brotherhood of Magicians for 20 years. Mr. Young was also a member of the St. Joseph News-Press 25 Year Club, Pony Express Magic Ring, and the Pony Express Historical Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and participating in the Young Family Magic Show at the Krug Park Summer Band Concerts and other local events. He loved to spend time with his granddaughters and his memories will live on through the wonderful woodworking heirlooms he lovingly made for his family.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Carrie Beth Gilmore (Patrick), St. Joseph; a son, Scott W. Young (Regina), St. Joseph; granddaughters, Emily Clare Gilmore, Krista and Katy Young; his sisters, Billie Jean Wilmes, Excelsior Springs, MO, and Vickie Thomas, Kansas City, MO; a brother, Jack Lee Young, Walnut Creek, CA; and his good friend, Bob Ward, with whom he enjoyed traveling and investing in casinos.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 12:00 p.m. on Monday. The family suggests memorial gifts to First Lutheran Church.
