Many especially beautiful floral tributes from his fellow Northwestern employees and lodge members as well as from relatives and friends bespoke the general esteem in which he was held by all. The following pallbearers, selected from among his coworkers in the shops and from the Red Men lodge, tenderly bore his remains to their last resting place in Linwood park cemetery: John E. Kinsman, Ross Boston, John O’Connell, Ed Airhart, H.E. Foster and William Cartwright.

On July 1st 1894 they moved to Boone, where he has for the past twenty years been employed by the C.& N.W. railway company as a blacksmith. He worked steadily at his trade until three or four months ago when he began to suffer with heart trouble, and although he was unable to work, he was able to be up and about most of the time. On Monday at noon he was taken seriously ill, suffering until 10 o’clock that night lapsed into a comatose condition and passed away Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock. He leaves to mourn, besides the wife, three sons Bert F., Roy H., Glenn D., and two daughters, May and Ruth, three children, Walter and Acie, having passed away in infancy and George at the age of twenty six years.
