Susan Kay Barley Atkinson, 71, died Friday, September 15, 2017.

Born in Bloomington, IL, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur Edwin and Mary Elizabeth Hoover Barley. She was the widow of John O. Atkinson. She was a member of First Baptist Church Cheraw. She and her husband were retired retail business owners. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who put everyone else before herself. Over the years she enjoyed staying connected with her Mineral Wells High School classmates.

Surviving are her sons, Bryan Steven Atkinson of Cheraw, SC, John E. “Eddie” (Jamie) Atkinson of Cheraw, SC, a daughter, Janice A. (Kip) Kiser of Chesterfield, SC, grandchildren Rachel Kiser, Graham Kiser, Madyson Scott, Kelsey Atkinson, Caleb Atkinson, and Kaitlyn Atkinson, a brother Lynn (Debbie) Barley of Mineral Wells, TX, sisters, Wilma (Bill) Powers of Weatherford, TX, Linda Archer of Mineral Wells, TX, Kathy Barley of Garland, TX, Cindy (David) Pitts of Mineral Wells, TX, Mary (Todd) Watts of Slaughterville, OK, Jan (DuWayne) Jacobson of Mineral Wells, TX. Also, many nieces and nephews.

CHERAW – John Olin Atkinson, 75, died Sunday March 6, 2016.

Born in Angelus, SC he was a son of the late James Owen and Marie Middleton Atkinson. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC. He was a past Worshipful Master of the Cheraw Masonic Lodge #15. Mr. Atkinson was a US Army Veteran (Helicopter Mechanic) having served in Vietnam 1963-1964. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, collecting and restoring classic cars, and hosting pig-pickins.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Barley Atkinson, sons, Bryan Steven Atkinson, John Edwin (Jamie) Atkinson, a daughter, Janice A. (Kip) Kiser all of Cheraw, SC, a brother, L. Neal (Mamie) Atkinson of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, Rachel Kiser, Graham Kiser, Kelsey Atkinson, Madyson Scott, Caleb Atkinson and Kaitlyn Atkinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents listed above and a brother, James Kenneth Atkinson.

The family received friends 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cheraw, SC.

Willie Carter, 70, Big Spring, died Tuesday, May 26, 1992 in a San Antonio hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Airport Baptist Church with the Rev. Russell Ray, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Memorial Park under the direction of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.

She was born April 25, 1922, in McKinney. She married Joe G. Carter, Jr. on April 29, 1939, in Big Spring. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1979.

She was a member of Airport Baptist Church.

She moved to Glasscock County in 1935 and then to Big Spring in 1987. She had been a chapter of the Big Spring Prospector's Club. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son: Joe G. Carter, Ira; one daughter, Ann M. Carter, Chula Vista, Calif.; her mother, Annie Frizzell, Rising Star; two brothers: Bob Frizzell, Hobbs, NM and Otis Frizzell, Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Vera Turk, Azle, Maxine Bowden, Rising Star, and Ann Rose, Graham; and three grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Russell Carter, in 1984.

Family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association, P. O. Box 26460, Austin, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Carter, Peny Stone, Marck Schafer, Todd Schafer, Bob Frizzell and Otis Frizzell.
