Biography

Stella Worley was born in December 1889 in Washington Co. (probably), Virginia, her younger brother Joseph had a delayed birth certificate prepared, which indicates that he was born at Benhams in Washington County, Virginia.2,1 She married John William Oscar Agee about 1907.1 She died about 1918 -- John's WW I draft registration, about 1917 or early 1918, indicates he was married with four children. In the 1920 census, he was remarried to Pearl Della Worley, younger sister of his first wife, and the oldest of the three listed children was Maggie, age eight, followed by Clarence, age six, and Gordon, age three. The fourth child (not counting Willie who was living in the J. Thorn Williams household as a servant) would have been Iva, the daughter listed as "Eva" born in 1909, as per the 1910 census. Iva was living nearby in the Toy D. Smith family, as of the 1920 census. There was a Spanish influenza pandemic in 1918 - 1919, which attacked young adults with particular lethality -- one can speculate that the flu might have been a factor in the fate of Stella (Worley) Agee.
