Katelyn Joy Derstine‚ 20‚ of Sarasota‚ FL‚ died June 15‚ 2006. Born April 5‚ 1986 in Sellersville‚ she moved to Sarasota from Hatfield 11 years ago.
She was a student at the University of Florida‚ majoring in horticulture and business. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and Gator Pals-Circle K. Katelyn was an active member at both Riverview High School and within the community in the following capacities: vice-president of the Senior Board‚ Tartan Yearbook staff‚ Highland Dancer officer‚ Key Club president‚ Big Brothers and Sisters‚ Mote Marine Intern‚ Renaissance‚ Funtastics Flyers‚ homecoming queen‚ and Community Youth Development. She was a violinist in both the Riverview Orchestra and the Florida West Coast Youth Symphony. She was also honored as a member of the debutante society.
Katelyn was a youth camp counselor at Spruce Lake Wilderness Christian Retreat. She had a fond appreciation and love for both nature and animals.
Her strong Christian faith and spirit brought joy to the lives of everyone she encountered. Her innate creative ability will be treasured through her many photographic and artistic talents.
Katelyn's family said she will always be remembered for her radiant beauty both inside and out‚ as well as her joy of life.
Survivors include her parents‚ Bambi Famous-Kaine and Rodney L. Derstine‚ both of Sarasota; her stepfather‚ Jeffrey L. Kaine of Sarasota; a brother‚ M. Dane of Sarasota; a stepsister‚ Judith Kaine of Atlanta‚ GA; a stepbrother‚ Daniel Kaine of Orlando‚ FL; maternal grandmother‚ Joyce Becker of Schwenksville; paternal grandparents‚ Mr. and Mrs. James L. Derstine of Hatfield; grandparents‚ Jane Becker of Boca Raton‚ FL‚ and Dr. and Mrs. Henry Kaine of Bloomfield Hills‚ MI; great-grandmother‚ Mary Derstine of Souderton; great-grandfather‚ Robert C. Bucher of Harleysville; and 12 aunts‚ 11 uncles‚ 37 cousins‚ and countless friends‚ who all loved her.
A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Church of the Palms-Presbyterian. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

EDGAR J. RICKEL
Edgar J. Rickel, 90, of Prairie Village, Kan., passed away April 23, 2016. Memorial services will be 2 pm., Sat., May 14 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 11 E. 40th St., Kansas City, MO 64111.
Edgar was a member of Sigma Chi, graduating from the University of Kansas with a degree in civil engineering. During WWII, he served in the Merchant Marines. Edgar was President of Rickel Inc. And a member of the Kansas City Board of Trade; developing and manufacturing agricultural machinery and equipment, most notably the “Port-A-Probe” and the “Big A”.
He is preceded in death by his sister Norma Rickel. Survivors include his wife Virginia; daughters Janet Rickel, Elizabeth Greenwood and Mary Pelletier (Marc), granddaughter Alice Angulo (Aaron).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s or St. Luke’s Hospice.
Edgar John Rickel lived in 1992 in Shawnee Mission, Johnson Co., KS. He lived in 2016 in Prairie Village, Johnson Co., KS.
