Gertrude Irene Helm (she went by 'Irene') was born in Streator, Illinois on July 4, 1901 to parents Ira and Nina (Hawkins) Helm. She lived her entire life in Streator. Around 1919, she married Raymond 'Ray' Peter Detmering (FAG# 79545835). In 1920, she gave birth to a baby, Bobbie (FAG# 79545834), but tragically, both the baby and her husband Ray died in 1921, and are buried in Fairview Cemetery in Streator.
Gertrude had become pregnant a month before Ray died, and on March 24, 1922, she gave birth to their daughter Marcella Detmering (FAG# 79625446). Marcella married John Edward Wright (FAG# 111525103). Marcella died August 3, 1969 in Chicago, and John died September 4, 1989. Both are buried in Fairview Cemetery in Streator.
On March 8, 1924, Gertrude married James William Caile, who was from England. In 1925, Gertrude gave birth to twins Marion (FAG# 79423648) and Billie (FAG# 79423646), but both twins died at birth.
James Caile (FAG# 79423647) died in 1950 in Streator, and Gertrude then married Leander 'Lee' A. Crider on March 11, 1953. Lee died in June, 1978. Irene died on May 21, 1964 in Streator.

Ray Detmering was born to George Detmering and Adah Ora Lowe Detmering on June 12, 1893 near Fontana, Kansas. He had two younger siblings: Earl Christopher Detmering, born 8/2/1895; and Ora Ada Detmering, born 3/1/1898
On February 8, 1918, Ray married Gertrude Irene Helm in Illinois. In 1920, they had their first child, Bobbie, but a year later on July 31st, with a knife, Ray killed his son, Bobbie, attempted to kill his wife (but she survived), and then killed himself. Ray and Bobbie were buried on August 2nd in Riverview Cemetery in Streator, Illinois.
Before this tragic incident, Gertrude had become pregnant with another child, Marcella, who was born on March 24, 1922. She later married John Edward Wright. Marcella and John are also buried in Riverview Cemetery.

Local Woman Succumbs In Chicago
Mrs. John (Marcella) Wright of 104 Grove St. died Sunday at 1:30 a.m. in Presbyterian-St. Luke’s hospital, Chicago. She had been in ill health since June 21.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, in the Central Church of Christ, with burial in Riverview cemetery.
Friends may call at the Winterrowd funeral home after 4 p.m., Monday.
Mrs. Wright was born March 24, 1922, in Streator, to Raymond and Gertrude I. (Helm) Detmering. Mrs. Wright was married to John Wright in the Episcopal church in Streator, Jan. 31, 1939. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ and resided in this city her entire life.
Surviving are her husband; 13 children, Mrs. Andrew (Sharon) Palko, Mrs. Jerry (Jacqueline) Raber, Mrs. Edmund (Roberta) Essman, Mrs. Terrell (Janene) Bennet, and Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Hays, all of this city; Mrs. Marcella Mitchell, John Wright, Jr., Mrs. Fred (Victoria) Paulmeyer, and Miss Rebecca Wright, all of Joliet; James Wright, Miriam Wright, Mary Kay Wright, and Beth Ann Wright, all at home; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Robert Caile; her step-father, Lee Crider.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a step-father, James W. Caile; two half-brothers; two grandchildren.

STREATOR – John E. Wright, Sr., 71, of Streator died at 9:10 a.m. Monday (Sept. 4, 1989) at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Danville.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator. Following services, the body will be cremated and the ashes will be inurned at the Riverview Cemetery, Streator.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Streator, a son of George and Mary Tucker Wright. He married Marcella Detmering-Caile Jan. 31, 1939, in Streator. She died in 1969.
Survivors include two sons, John Wright, Jr., Columbus, Ohio, and James Wright, Columbia, Mo.; 10 daughters, Sharon Palko, Jacqueline Reber (sic), Roberta Essman, Victoria Matzen and Kathleen Hays, all of Streator; Marcella McKee, Joliet; Rebecca Tavitas, San Antonio, Texas; Miriam Hawley, Tonica; Mary K. Werhane, Lena, and Beth Ann Mahon, Dwight; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irene Blain, Georgene Ward and Elizabeth Overrocker, all of Streator; and Ellen Cherveny, Wilmington.
A veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Paratroopers, Mr. Wright lived most of his life in the Streator area. He was employed for many years at the Owens Illinois Glass Co. and also Enterprise Co. in Kernan.
He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Streator.

Sharon Rose Palko, 68, of Streator, passed away Monday morning, June 23, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Streator, she was the daughter of John and Marcella (Detmering-Caile) Wright. She married Andrew Joseph Palko on June 14, 1958. He passed away July 23, 1980.
Surviving are two sons, Andrew (Tanya) Palko of Chesapeake, Va., and Daniel (Tammy) Palko of Streator; a daughter, Susan (Thomas) Wenzel of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; two brothers, John Wright of West Virginia and James Wright of Pontiac; six sisters, Marcella McKee, Roberta Essman, Kathleen Hays and Beth Crank, all of Streator, Miriam Hawley of Arizona and Mary Kay Werhane of Lena, Ill.; and her longtime companion, James Hallam of Streator.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Jacqueline Raber, Victoria Matzen, Janene Bennett and Rebecca Tavitas.
She retired from St. Mary's Hospital medical records department after 25 years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ.
She graduated from Streator Township High School in 1958.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Chad, sisters Janene Bennett, Victoria Matzen, Jacqueline Raber, Rebecca Tavitas and Sharon Palko.
Roberta attended Streator Grade Schools and Streator High School. She was formerly employed at Owens Illinois Glass.

Also surviving is a brother Louis Essman of Streator, 3 sisters-in-law, Beth Crank of Streator and Mary Kay Werhane of Lena, IL whom he and his wife raised, Ramona Essman of Streator and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Chad, Brothers Henry and John Essman and a sister Josie Borman.
Edmund attended Streator Schools, served in the US Army and retired from Thatcher Glass.
