Roland Payne, 80, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Roland was born on April 17, 1935 the son of the late John R. Payne and Cora Davis Payne.
Roland was a well respected pillar of the Aberdeen Community, serving on Village Council for several years, as well as acting Mayor for a period of time. His love for Aberdeen was reflected in many community projects he was instrumental in getting accomplished over the years. Retiring in 1990 as a school bus driver of twenty-nine years, he transported many students for Aberdeen, Huntington Local Schools, Manchester Local School District and Adams County Ohio Valley Local Schools. He worked several years in his father's local businesses, Payne's Carryout and Payne's Laundromat during his father's failing health. He and his wife were co-managers of Fenner Motel/Daniel Boone Motor Inn for twenty years. Roland was an active member of Central United Methodist Church until his failing health.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Lelia Ann Hardy Payne. He also leaves four loving children, Cheryl (Robert) Clarke, Maysville, KY, Sandra (Pat) Kimble, Spanish Fort, AL, Barry (Roxane) Payne, Aberdeen, OH and Lyndon Payne, Fort Thomas, KY. Also leaving to mourn his passing, Roland was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Kimble, Jamin Payne, Alison Kimble Hancock, Kelsey Clarke Niedert, Andrew Clarke, Jordan Payne, Brianna Payne and Haley Payne; three great grandchildren, Kara, Andrew and Chloe; two sisters, Mary Edith (Wayne) Griffith, Georgetown, OH and Ilene Chamberlain, Aberdeen, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Payne and sisters, Ellen Payne, Dorothy Reash, Mildred Beshea and Thelma Payne.
Funeral services for Roland Payne will be held at the Central United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 22, 2015 with Rev. David Green and Rev. Cameron Rash officiating.
Burial will be in the Charter Oak Cemetery, Aberdeen, OH. Pallbearers will be Michael Kimble, Andrew Clarke, Jordan Payne, Craig Hancock, Chad Niedert and Craig Chamberlain.
Visitation will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home Friday, August 21, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 912 East Second Street, Maysville, KY 41056 or the charity of one's choice.

Lelia Ann Hardy Payne, 85, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. Payne was the widow of Roland Payne who passed in 2015. She formerly was employed at US Shoe and Magee's Bakery and Lelia and Roland co-managed the Daniel Boone Motel for twenty-one years and later they co-managed Brown's Motel. Lelia was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and a graduate of Bracken County High School. She was born in Gertrude in Bracken County, Kentucky on May 30, 1936 the daughter of the late Samuel Kelsie Hardy and Alice Louise Marshall Hardy.
She is survived by her four children, Cheryl Ann (Bob) Clarke, Sandra Kay (Pat) Kimble, Barry Keith (Roxane) Payne and Lyndon Bryan Payne; eight grandchildren, Michael Kimble, Jamin Payne, Alison Hancock, Kelsey Niedert, Andy Clarke, Jordan Payne, Brianna Payne and Haley Schroer; seven great grandchildren, Ansleigh, Kara, Andrew, Chloe, Wesley, Annie and Hazel and her sister-in-law, Mary Edith Griffith. ABERDEEN, Ohio – Alma Ilene Payne Chamberlain, 78, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at UC Medical Center. Mrs. Chamberlain was the widow of Kenneth Chamberlain who died in 2011. The couple were married for fifty-one years at the time Mr. Chamberlain passed.
A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Ilene was born on Oct. 16, 1939, the daughter of the late John R. Payne and Cora Davis Payne. For the last eight years, Ilene has served her community as a Trustee for Huntington Township. She always loved doing things for her family and her community.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s, she took care of the Aberdeen baseball and softball fields. She always made sure the concession stand was fully stocked every night and weekend because she always made sure there was a nightly game or a weekend tournament.
In her later years, her beloved husband was a Huntington Township Trustee and after his passing, she became a Trustee and was always looking out for the town of Aberdeen and the Huntington Township. She was dedicated to the Charter Oak Cemetery and spent countless hours weekly with loved ones in mourning and always made sure the cemetery looked beautiful. Even less than an hour before she had a massive stroke, she was working at the cemetery.
Ilene is survived by her loving children, John (Elizabeth) Chamberlain of Maysville and Tonya (Greg) Slone of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, who dearly loved their Maw, Craig (Rachael) Chamberlain of Lexington, Cora Chamberlain of Independence, Kensey (Reed) Dressler of Springfield, Mo., Mica Slone, Christian Slone, Noah Slone and Noel Slone all of Alexandria; her sister, Mary Edith Griffith of Georgetown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Lelia Payne; a special nephew, Steve Payne and also several nieces and nephews. Ilene was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great grandchild.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Payne and Roland Payne and her sisters, Ellen Payne, Dorothy Reash, Mildred Beshea and Thelma Payne.
Visitation for Ilene Chamberlain will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Homefrom 5-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 and also on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 with Elder Greg Slone officiating.
Burial will follow in the Charter Oak Cemetery, Aberdeen, Ohio.

Kenneth Chamberlain, 74, a resident of Campbell Drive, Aberdeen, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Meadowview Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Chamberlain was born on December 30, 1936 in Robertson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Isaac C. and Irene Herrington Chamberlain. He was a well known self-employed electrician and plumber for over 40 years. He was a Huntington Township Trustee for the last 20 years.
Mr. Chamberlain is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Ilene Payne Chamberlain, one son John (Elizabeth) Chamberlain of Maysville, one daughter Tonya (Greg) Slone of Kansas City, MO, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving is a special nephew Steve Payne of Aberdeen, three sisters Peggy Morgan, Paulette Radcliffe, Betty Kersch, several brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Isaac Chamberlain, Jr. and a sister, Mary Norman.
Services for Kenneth Chamberlain were held Monday, January 10 at 1 P.M. at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. E. Ray Throckmorton and Mr. Greg Slone officiating. Burial was in the Charter Oak Cemetery.
