STEVENSON Carroll W. Stevenson went to be with the Lord October 3, 2008. The son of Charles Wesley and Bessie (Gray) Stevenson, he was born August 22, 1915 in Brunswick, GA and move (sic) to Jacksonville in 1930. He attended Andrew Jackson High School and was a member of the 1935 state championship football team. Carroll served in the Army in World War II. He worked for the Atlanta Coast Line Railroad, retiring from its successor, Seaboard Cost Line (now CSX), in 1978. He loved God, his church, his family and his Gators. He was a member of Murray Hill United Methodist Church, very active in visitation, his men’s prayer group, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and other programs until his health declined. An award winning rosarian, Carroll was a member of the Jacksonville Rose Society. He served as its past president, co-chairman of rose shows and on various committees. His greatest pleasure, however, was giving bouquets to friends.
He was predeceased by brothers Robert, Charles, George, Kenneth and Vernon; sisters Alice, Bessie, Lois and Mary Dean.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 58 years, Edith, son Shelby (Janice), daughters Carroll and Christie, grandchildren Sarah, Betsy, Benjamin, Matthew, Joseph, and Robert; great-granddaughter Taylor, sister in-law Helen Stevenson; 4 nephews, 3 nieces, 13 grand nieces and nephews and 12 great grandnieces and nephews.
He lived a full life and never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 2 pm at Murray Hill United Methodist Church, 4101 College St. Visitation will be held at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Funeral Home, 729 S. Edgewood Ave. on Monday, Oct. 6 from 6-8 pm. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Sandra J. “Sandy” (Goldsberry) Doyle, 61, of Swampscott, died Monday, July 22, 2001 in Union Hospital, Lynn, of cancer. She was the wife of James T. Doyle, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage.
Born in St. Paris, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Beulah (Owens) Goldsberry. She was raised and educated in Urbana, Ohio, and had lived in Swampscott since 1968. She was a graduate of Ohio State University in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Spanish Education at Tufts University.
She taught junior high school students Spanish in Ohio and Chelsea and later became Director of Transitional Bilingual Education in Chelsea. Since 1994, she held the same position in the Revere school system.
She was active in the field of transitional bilingual education on local, state, and federal levels and received many awards and recognition.
She was active with Ohio State University Alumni activities, Revere Teachers’ Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, and Massachusetts Association of Bilingual education. She was also an active member and communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott, a former Swampscott Town Meeting member and adjunct faculty member of Salem State College.
Mrs. Doyle also leaves two sons, James C. Doyle of Washington, D.C. and Timothy M. Doyle of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Jennifer D. Brinkman of Seattle, Wash.; a grandson; four brothers; six sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held from the Solimine, Landergan, and Rhodes Funeral home, 67 Ocean Street Lynn, on Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery.
