During World War II, he served in Europe in the United States Army's 13th Armored Division, 93rd Cavalry Recon Squadron. After the war Coil played semi-professional baseball as a catcher and infielder. He and his brother, Wayne, played for the Lima American Legion Baseball club that participated in the 1947 National Semi-Pro Baseball Tournament (now the National Baseball Congress World Series) in Wichita, Kansas. He also played in the City Baseball League in Lima and the Major (Fast-Pitch) Softball League in Lima. He played semi-professionally throughout West Central Ohio.

Biography

Marie Ann Presar was born on 20 May 1928 in Gary, Lake Co., IN; daughter of irvin E. and Anna Marie (Kellermeyer) Presar. She died on 7 December 2022 in Muncie, Delwaware Co., IN,

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Marie Ann Coil, 94, died in Muncie on Dec. 7, 2022.

A native of Gary, she was born on May 20, 1928, to Irvin E. and Alma M. Presar.

After Irvin died in 1938, Marie Ann and her brother, Charles, moved with their mother to Wapakoneta, Ohio, their father's hometown.

Though living with modest means, they had a piano and studied with a conservatory-trained teacher. Musical performances were exciting. As a high schooler, Marie Ann rushed outdoors into a snow flurry to get conductor Dimitri Mitropoulos' autograph after a concert. Later, as a mother, she gave unstinting support to her children's musical endeavors.

Earning money for school, Marie Ann tolerated the heat of a wartime Westinghouse factory, but she also enjoyed swimming at sunset at Lake Chautauqua, NY, when she worked in a local hotel.

A graduate of Heidelberg College, she obtained a Masters Degree in Library Science from the Drexel Institute of Technology (Drexel University).

Working at the public library in Lima, Ohio, she met Neal A. Coil, a war veteran in graduate school. Married on Sept. 12, 1954, they had five children. He died in 2019 at age 97.

Marie Ann retired as head reference librarian from the Muncie Public Library. Her husband retired from the faculty of Ball State University. In later years, they toured Great Britain and visited baseball spring training in Florida.

Survivors include her children: Marianne Coil; Sarah J. Coil; Neal A. Coil (Anne); Wayne I. Coil (Traci); and William R. Coil (Maryann); grandchildren Haley Barreca (Lawrence); Grant Coil (Ryley); Alex and Nolan Coil; Cody and Katherine Hausz; and great-grandson, Beckett Barreca; sisters-in-law Sandra Presar and Dorothy Coil, and nieces and nephews.

Her brother, Charles, died in 2012.

The Coil family would like to extend their appreciation to Muncie Estates Senior Living and Paradigm Health, for their kindness, loving care, and friendship.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta, Ohio.

She was buried in December 2022 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Auglaize Co., OH, Findagrave #246278290.
