George Samuel Burtner, 86, of Clear Spring, Md., passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Sept. 17, 1927, in Sharpsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Samuel Joshua Burtner and Lena Kefauver Burtner.

He was a lifetime dairy farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a 1945 graduate of Boonsboro High School, and was a former member of United Church of Christ in Boonsboro.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia A. Burtner, whom he married in 1951; four children, Daniel Burtner and wife, Cammy, and Michael and wife, Kim, all of Clear Spring, and Henry Burtner and wife, Trina, and Linda Curry, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Rosalie Stotler of Boonsboro; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mae Evans; a brother, John Burtner; and his son-in-law, Larry Curry.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Broadfording Bible Brethren Church Cemetery, 13523 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown. Pastor Henry Burtner will officiate.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

LARRY EDWARD CURRY SR., 53, of 14 Downsville Road, Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, in Hagerstown. Born Feb. 25, 1957, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Franklin Curry and Martha E. Daugherty Curry Burger.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed with The Herald-Mail Co. for 31 years, most recently serving as assistant pressroom manager. John League, editor and publisher of The Herald-Mail Co., said Larry was one of the most dedicated employees with whom he worked.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Linda Ann Curry; a son, SFC Larry E. Curry Jr. of Hawaii; two stepdaughters, Holly Sarver of Williamsport, Md., and Dana Miller of Hagerstown; three sisters, Lois Hawbaker of Clear Spring, Md., and Sharon Fravel and Shirley Curry Bowman of South Carolina; a brother, Robert "Bobby" Curry of Blufton, S.C.; two grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Dickey.

Funeral services were held at Minnich Funeral Home; burial was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors conducteded by Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
