Biography
Mary Ann Cashour was born on 30 April 1932 in Frederick, Frederick Co., MD; daughter of Charles Kemp and Mary Gertrude (Hamilton) Cashour, Sr. She died on 25 September 2024 in Frederick, Frederick Co., MD,
Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):
Mary Ann Burtner passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday September 25 with family by her side. She is now merely asleep in death until the day her Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ calls her out from the memorial tomb, to a new and eternal life in a paradise earth under God's rulership.
Mary Ann was born on April 30, 1932 in Frederick, Maryland. She was the second child and daughter to Charles Kemp and Mary G. Cashour. After a few years living on East Church Street, her father decided to move the family to the clean air of Braddock Heights. As a teenager she volunteered as a lifeguard at the Braddock Heights swimming pool, and worked at the "Mountain Theatre" at the Braddock Heights Amusement Park, located on top the hill directly across the street from her family home. As many Frederick County couples did, she met her future husband Carroll while skating at the Braddock Heights Roller Rink beside the park. She attended Parkway Elementary School and graduated from Frederick High School in 1950, along with her best friend for life Janice Kinna, also from Braddock. During that time they together enjoyed many outings and vacations to the beach. After graduation Mary Ann worked briefly for the Muse Tailoring Company in Frederick, then for a time at the "5 and Dime" store on West Patrick Street. After being recommended by someone who remained forever unknown to her, she accepted a position in the accounting and bookkeeping department at the Western Maryland Trust Company, a bank on the "square corner" in downtown Frederick. Unexpectedly and surprisingly to her, the president of the bank handed her both the keys to the bank's post office mail box AND the keys to the bank itself, on her first day on the job.
She was married on February 11, 1956 to Carroll Burtner, a local farmer, and they resided for a few years on Lee Place in Frederick. They there welcomed two sons Michael and James. In December 1960 they bought their forever home on Bowers Road, where she lived until her death. There she appreciated and loved the simple and beautiful things in God's creation. She enjoyed being a homemaker and a mother raising her boys there. She especially loved watching and feeding the many types of birds, chipmunks and squirrels. She also enjoyed planting and taking care of the many different varieties of flowers in her gardens. When she was unable to tend to her gardens herself, her grandchildren helped her to keep them beautiful. Mary Ann was a very kind, loving and giving person to all. She spent many years developing a strong relationship with Jehovah God through her studies at the West Frederick Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed sharing the words of the Bible and the Good News of His Kingdom with others.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband Carroll Lloyd Burtner and her brother Charles Kemp "Bubbie" Cashour Jr. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her two sisters Catherine Cashour and Janice Delauter (Eugene), her two sons Michael, and James (wife Shelly); her four grandchildren Carrie, Corey (wife Marleny), Cody, and Brian; nine great-grandchildren Angelica, Nevaeh, Madalyn, Jacob, Jessica, Matthew, Kyle, Kylie, and Leona; and two great-great-grandchildren Bryson and Samira. She is also survived and lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Keeny & Basford Funeral Home, P.A. 106 E. Church Street,Frederick, MD. 21701 on Tuesday October 8, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. . Also, for those who may not be able to attend services in person, there will be an online Zoom service on Saturday afternoon Oct.12.
She was buried in September 2024 in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, Frederick Co., MD, Findagrave #276018578.
