WILEY JR., Edward Emerson "Ned", of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at
Asbury Acres Healthcare Center in Maryville, TN.

He was a graduate of Central High School in Knox County, TN, received his A.B. from Emory
and Henry College, Emory, VA, B.D. from Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC, M. A. from
Yale Divinity School, New Haven, CT, Ph.D. Degree from Duke Graduate School and his D.D.
Degree from Emory and Henry College.

Dr. Wiley, a retired United Methodist minister, was a member of First United Methodist Church
of Maryville, TN. He served the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church in many
capacities, beginning with the Jefferson City Circuit in Jefferson County, TN in 1937. He and
his wife, Frances, then served the St. Elmo Church and Centenary Church in Chattanooga, First
Church of Maryville, TN, Broad Street Church in Kingsport, TN, State Street Church in Bristol,
was Superintendent of the Abingdon District in VA, and First United Methodist in Newport, TN,
before returning to First United Methodist of Maryville to serve as Minister of Visitation. He
also served as Chaplain at Asbury Acres Health Care.

Dr. Wiley served as president, past president, and board member of many different organizations
during his ministry. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Emory and Henry College,
Tennesee Wesleyan College and Hiwassee College, he was a member of the Salvation Army
Advisory Board and the Personnel Committee Conference Council on Ministeries. He enjoyed
golf, tennis and swimming.

Dr. Wiley was preceded in death by his father, Edward Emerson Wiley; mother, Lucy Osment
Wiley; one brother; two half sisters; grandfather, Ephraim Emerson Wiley, the second president
of Emory and Henry College; grandmother, Elizabeth Reeves Wiley, founder of the Holston
Methodist Home for Children in Greeneville, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Tittsworth Wiley; brother, Frances A. Wiley and wife, Libby
of California; and a beloved sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tittsworth of Jefferson City, TN.

Funeral services will be held at Maryville First United Methodist Church in Maryville, TN at
7:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003 with Rev. James R. Green and Rev. Sterling Turner officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the Church.

Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for the interment
service with Dr. Ed Eldridge officiating.

The Wesley Mitchell Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pall Bearers.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the church of your choice in memory of Dr. Wiley.

Francis A. Wiley died in Walnut Creek, CA.

A native of Virginia, he earned his B.A. degree in History from Emery and Henry College, followed by a M.A. degree from Duke University and Doctorate from University of California at Berkeley.

He was an educator for more than 30 years, holding positions as professor of history at University of Arkansas, New York State University, Rutgers University and California State University, Fresno, where he was director of the graduate division, School of Social Sciences.

A true Southern gentleman, Dr. Wiley was a committed environmentalist, musician and church layman.

He was a resident of Rossmoor since 1978, where he was active in the Kiwanis Club, Community Club, and Tice Valley Methodist Church and served as director, Third Walnut Creek Mutual.

He is survived by Elizabeth R. Wiley, his beloved wife of 70 years; niece, Lynn Burns of San Francisco; and sister-in-law, Frances T. Wiley of Marysville, TN.

Interment was at Oakmont Cemetery in Lafayette, CA.

Frances Tittsworth was born February 15, 1910, in Jefferson City, TN, the daughter of Buford M. and Eva McSpadden Tittsworth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E. E. "Ned" Wiley; brother, Mac Tittsworth; sisters, Elizabeth Tittsworth, Mary Kate Tittsworth, and Munsey T. Mowbray; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wiley of Walnut Creek, California.

In 1937, Ned Wiley was appointed to the Jefferson City Circuit following his education at Emory and Henry College. Duke Divinity School, and Yale and Duke Universities. While serving this appointment, he met Frances Tittsworth. They were united in holy matrimony on October 25. 1940. Frances and Ned enjoyed over 62 years of marriage, which took them to Chattanooga, Maryville, Kingsport, Bristol, Abingdon, and Newport.

Upon retirement, the Wileys moved to Asbury Acres in Maryville, where Ned served for a time as Chaplain. Frances was a good companion and strong support for Ned throughout the years. She was very outgoing and friendly and deeply committed to the Church and the Lord they gave their lives to serve.

Frances' beloved "Ned" entered the Church Triumphant on June 11, 2003.

The Wileys had a rich Methodist heritage. They studied Holston's history and celebrated a grandfather, E. E. Wiley, serving as President at Emoi7 and Henry, and a grandmother founding what is today Holston United Methodist Home for Children. Ned's father was a Presiding Elder in Knoxville when he went away to school. Frances was a great encouragement and a devoted wife who helped E. E. Wiley. Jr., to make his own mark on the history of Methodism in Holston.

Funeral services were April 28.2007, at First United Methodist Church, Maryville, with Dr. Robert L. Wilcox and Rev. Sterling Turner officiating. Additional remarks were made by William Ed Harmon, special friend and legal guardian. The interment service was April 29, 2007, at Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville.

; Gladys was first married, in 1915, to Eric Wilton Pollard (1891-1919), who died of pneumonia following influenze, leaving her with an infant son, Eric Wilton Pollard, Jr. (1917-2000). Eric, Sr. was a son of William H. and Emma Louise (White) Pollard of Alameda, CA. Eric, Jr. was raised with Gladys' second family with John Reeves. Eric, Jr. married Cariline Russell Walker in 1941 and had a son Eric, III, born 1945, who lived in Oswego, NY and Charlotte, NC. He had a son, Eric "Rick" W. Pollard IV who marrid Kathleen Marie Whelan in 1998. Eric, Jr.'s first marriage ended before OCT 1949 when he remarried to Estrella Nenette Bendelac (1922-2006) at Alexandria, VA. Eric, Jr. appears to have been a career Navy seaman and officer beginning during WW II -- he and/or Estrella were listed at various times at Norfolk, VA, Alameda, CA, San Diego, CA, Arlington, VA, Monterey, CA, and Oakland, CA. It appears from a public member tree, Kimball Family Tree, genealogy prepared by Roxande Kimball, online at Ancestry.com, that there was a daughter born to the second marriage with Estrella. This was possibly Michelle R. Pollard, born 21 JAN 1954 and listed living at Santa Barbara, CA where Estrella passed away in 2006. DLB 2026.

Gladys Gibson died on 14 March 1974 in Carson City Consolidated Municipality, NV.

She was buried in March 1974 in Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Alameda Co., CA, Findagrave #167234848.
