John R. Aten, 78 of Rt. 28 died Wednesday May 18, 2011 at the Kingston Hospital. He was born April 12, 1933 in Bloomingdale, New Jersey son of the late William and Katherine Werst Aten. An area resident for the past ten years, he had formerly resided in New Windsor. He was a truck driver and member of the Teamsters Local #445. John was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed boating on the Hudson River. He was well known for his mechanic skills, and meeting him was memorable.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Schuster Aten, 2 daughters: Deborah Drake-Goodrich of Saugerties, and Katherine Aten of Phoenicia. 2 brothers: Frank and Richard Aten, and 2 sisters Eva Anderson and Martha Rochacewicz. 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by a son Robert Aten in 1983.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of John is being planned. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
