Funeral services for Eddy C. G. Forrest, 87, of 121 North Queen Street, Littlestown, who died at the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown, Wednesday, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the J.W. Little and Son funeral home, Littlestown. The Rev. William R. Jones, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, Littlestown, officiated. Pallbearers, all members of the Patmos Lodge F and AM, were Theron W. Spangler, Emory H. Snyder, Samuel H. Higinbotham, Ralph R. Ruggles, J. Arthur Boyd and Stanley M. Staub. Masonic services conducted at the grave were in charge of the following members of the same lodge: Clyde Coulson, worshipful master; J. S. Huggens, senior warden; Roy Attlesberger, junior warden and Luther Freed, chaplain.

The residence of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. L. Grove, East Queen street, Chambersburg, was the scene of a pretty home wedding on Tuesday evening. In the presence of the family and a large company of invited guests their daughter, Miss Pearl Grove, and Dr. Fletcher B. Forrest were united in marriage. The bridegroom’s brother, Rev. John Forrest, of Montoursville, officiated. Rev. Dr. Roth assisted. Miss Hazel Snyder, Hazleton, was bridesmaid; Granville Forrest, of Trenton, N.J., best man. A reception followed the ceremony.

Dr. Forrest is a practicing physician at Bellwood, Pa., and for a time was located in Chambersburg. He was originally from Adams county. His bride is the daughter of former County Commissioner and Mrs. Grove and is one of the well known and esteemed young ladies of town. Dr. and Mrs. Forest (sic) will reside at Bellwood.

DR. FLETCHER BLISS FORREST

Dr. Fletcher Bliss Forrest, physician of Bellwood, died at 6:53 o’clock last evening at the Altoona Hospital, Altoona, after a two-weeks illness. He was aged 63 years and 3 days, and was born in Littlestown, the son of the late Hamilton Forrest and Louisa Kitzmiller Forrest.

On December 29, 1908, Dr. Forrest was married to Miss Pearl Grove of town.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Bellwood, Columbus Lodge No. 75, I.O.O.F. of town, Bellwood Lodge, Knights of Pythias, the Blair County Medical Association, and the State and National Homeopathic Association.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pearl Grove Forrest, and two daughters, Miss Katherine Forrest, at home, and Miss Anna Forrest of Washington, D.C., two brothers, Granville Forrest of Zelienople and Eddy Forrest of Philadelphia, two sisters, Misses Annie and Emma Forrest of Littlestown.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. T. M. Stone, will be held at the home in Bellwood at 10 o’clock on Monday morning, after which the body will be brought here for burial, the funeral cortege arriving at Cedar Grove cemetery about 2 o’clock on Monday afternoon.

Cause of death: Strptococcic Septicemia; infection following tooth extraction. He was buried in February 1940 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA, Findagrave #176515929.

Born in Zelienople on Feb. 6, 1914, he was a son of the late Granville L. and Pearl Baumgardner Forrest. Prior to retirement, he was a teacher of manual arts at the Brookfield High School and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Obituary -- The Gazette and Daily, Thursday, February 05, 1931:

The funeral of Rev. John Wesley Forrest, a native of Littlestown, and retired minister of the Methodist Episcopal church, who died last evening at 9:45 o'clock at the Harrisburg hospital from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Forrest family residence, North Queen street, Littlestown. Rev. Dr. J. Howard Ake, Harrisburg district Methodist Episcopal superintendent, will officiate. Interment will be made in Mr. Carmel cemetery, Littlestown.

The first charge of the deceased after graduating from Dickinson seminary at Williamsport, was at Mercersburg. He also filled charges at State college, York Springs, and other points in the Central Pennsylvania conference. His last appointment was a the Treverton charge.

He made his home, after retirement in 1914, at Selinsgrove.

He was buried in February 1931 at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Littlestown, Adams Co., PA, Findagrave #17352421.

Katherine Louise Forrest, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Fletcher Bliss Forrest of 336 Main street, Bellwood, became the bride of Dr. Charles Henry Bloom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Bloom of 1608 Tenth street, Altoona, at a pretty June wedding yesterday at the home of the bride. The ring ceremony was performed in the presence of a few intimate friends and class relatives by Rev. J. M. Brennan, pastor of the bride, and Rev. H. G.14 Dooley, both of Bellwood.

The maid of honor was Miss Anna L. Forrest, sister of the bride, while best man was Dr. Marlyn Miller, Altoona. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

The bride wore her mother's wedding outfit of white satin and princess lace, with the veil trimmed in pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses and baby's breath.

Mrs. Bloom is a graduate of Dickinson seminary, Williamsport, class of 1928, followed by post-graduate work at Bucknell, where she received her master's degree in 1933. While at Bucknell, she was a member of the Sigma Sigma Delta social sorority, the Girl's Glee club, the mixed chorus, and the educational club. During the past school term she was a member of the Cooper township high school faculty.

Dr. Bloom is a graduate of Altoona High school, class of 1926, and of? ? Gettysburg collage, class of 1930. While at Gettysburg he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity, and of Beta Beta Beta honorary fraternity. In 1934 he was graduated from Jefferson Medical college, where he was a member of honorary and scientific societies. Following a brief trip, he will begin his internship in the Altoona hospital July 1.


NOTE: This marriage was over before the April 1940 federal census, in which Charles Jr. was listed living with hsi widowed father with marital status "D". Charles remarried to Pearl Barbara Cox on 13 JUN 1942.

At 5:30 o’clock on December 25, Katherine Louisa Forrest and James M. Mathers were united in marriage by Rev. George E. Baughman, pastor of the First Methodist church, Cumberland, Md.

Mrs. Mathers is the daughter of Mrs. Pearl G. Forrest, 336 Main street, Bellwood, and the late Dr. Fletcher Bliss Forrest. Mr. Mathers is the son of Mr. James C. Mathers, 916 Twenty-sixth avenue, this city, and the late Mrs. Bessie Miller Mathers. Mr. Mathers is a well known local insurance broker.

Katherine Louisa Forrest died in April 1979 at Blair Co. (probably), PA, at age 68. She was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Altoona, Blair Co., PA, Findagrave #92402583.

View of Forrest Hall (at Lycoming College, Pennsylvania) looking northwest. The three-story residence hall was built to accommodate ninety-two women students. The rooms are arranged as suites, with an adjoining bathroom between two rooms.? ? Groundbreaking for the building was in September 1968, and it was completed in 1969. It was designed and constructed by Unitec Corporation of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Forrest Hall is a memorial from James M. and Katherine Forrest Mathers to Mrs. Mathers' parents, Dr. and Mrs. Fletcher Bliss Forrest, and sister, Anna Forrest Burfeindt. Katherine Forrest Mathers graduated from Williamsport Dickinson Seminary in 1928. She earned an A.B. degree in 1932, and Master of Arts degree in 1933, both from Bucknell University. She continues to come back for Homecoming and other campus events.

Martha Jane Forrest married John Francis Keith, son of William Keith and Katherine Peak, on 11 April 1864 at IN. Martha Jane Forrest died on 13 November 1899 at Frontier Co., NE, at age 55. She was buried in November 1899 at Prairie Land Cemetery, Frontier Co., NE.
