Ottumwa Courier September 13, 1960

Pearl H. French 75, died of a heart attack at his home at 418 South Ransom street at 6:00 p.m. Monday. He had suffered from a heart condition for several years.

Mr. French had been an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 46 years prior to his retirement. He had also been a resident of Ottumwa for 46 years.

He was born at Agency November 10, 1884, the son of Rollie E. and Emeline Wright French. He was married to Grace Grooms in Ottumwa on March 21, 1909. She survives.

He was a member of the Morrell Quarter Century club and UPWA, CIO Local No. 1.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons; Elbert and Bernard French of Ottumwa; two daughters Mrs. Virginia Howard of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Bernice Triem of Des Moines; two grandchildren, and a great - grandaughter. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel. Burial will be in Chisman cemetery West of Ottumwa.

Note: In looking at possible parental families in earlier censuses, in the 1830 census of Harrison County, Indiana, of the eight French families listed, only Mason French and Paul French had females in the 10 - 14 years age category. Each had three females in this category. While it is far from dispositive, one would suppose that it is most likely that one of these was her parental family. DLB 2015.

Wallace Frettinger
Wallace Frettinger, 77, formerly of 522 Shultz St., died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday in Veteran's Administration Hospital, Marion. He was born Oct. 29, 1906, in Kentland, to Thomas and Mae Frettinger. He was married Dec. 16, 1942, to Bernadine E. Moore, who survives.

He was a retired Penn Central trainman. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. Surviving are a son, Robert, Logansport; a daughter, Bonnie Villa, Glens Falls, N.Y; two sisters, Everril Paradis, Lakewood, N.J., and Pauline Flannery, Palm Springs, Calif; and two grandchildren.

A daughter and a sister preceded in death.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fred Schroeder officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Kroeger Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand guard from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening in the funeral home.
