     Hannah Gray was the daughter of Enoch Gray and Rachel Starr. Hannah Gray married Samuel Starr, son of Jeremiah Starr and Ann Whitson, in December 1818.

     Harry Clinton Gray was born on 24 November 1905 at Oklahoma. He married Kathryn Ann Freeland. Harry Clinton Gray died on 10 August 1988 at Orange Co., CA, at age 82.

     Howard Eugene Gray was born in October 1872 at Pennsylvania.¹ He married Charlotte Lenore Hughes, daughter of Richard Talbot Hughes and Charlotte Matilda Clippinger, on 16 October 1895 at Lima, Allen Co., OH, Two children born, one living as of April 1910.

     Hubert H. Gray was born on 16 October 1888 at Tennessee.¹ He married Alva Ilean Murr on 10 April 1916 at Johnson City, Washington Co., TN,

The marriage of Hubert H. Gray and Miss Alva Murr took place in the Arlington hotel in Johnson City, Monday, April 10th, in the presence of a few friends. Elder P. D. Reed, of Limestone was the officiating minister. Although the wedding had been expected yet the time and place was a surprise to their many friends.

The bride is a daughter f M. S. Murr of near Telford. The groom is the oldest son of W. D. A. Gray, and engaged in the mercantile business under the firm name of W. D. Gray & Sons, having a store on the old stage road at Oakland.

Mr. and Mrs. Gray came from the best families in Washington county, and both have a wide circle of relatives and friends who wish for them a happy and prosperous journey through life. They returned on train No. 8 to Telford and went to the Gray home where a delicious supper was served.

Hubert H. Gray was Member, Limestone Church of the Brethren. He died on 17 March 1984 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, at age 95. He was buried in March 1984 at Limestone Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Limestone, Washington Co., TN, Findagrave #54135180.

     Iva Louvonie Gray was born on 1 October 1893 at Phelps Co., MO. She was the daughter of James Martin Gray and Mary Jane Hays. Iva Louvonie Gray married Rainey Forrest Davault, son of William Robert Davault and Martha Victoria Cox, on 28 August 1913 at Phelps Co., MO. Iva Louvonie Gray died on 5 December 1980 at St. James, Phelps Co., MO, at age 87

Iva Davault Biles

Iva Davault Biles, daughter of the late James and Mary (Hayes) Gray, was born Oct. 1, 1893, in Phelps Co., Missouri and died Dec. 5, 1980, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. She was 87.

Mrs. Biles had lived in the St. James and Redbird area except for 12 years she lived in Owensville.

She was married to Rainey Davault in 1913. They had three children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rainey; one daughter, Helen Kinsey; seven brothers, William E. Gray, Walter Gray, Jesse Gray, Perry Gray, Arthur Gray, John Gray and Elex Gray; three sisters, Anna Gray, Stella Rogers and an infant baby girl.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur Davault of Bland, and Gene Davault of St. James, two sisters, Alice Rowland of Caruthersville, and Della Rabb of Granite City, Ill; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec 7 at 2 p.m. in the James and Gahr Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Gentry officiating.

Miss Corrinne Stumpf was the soloist accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Alex Pompe Jr.

Interment was in the Southard Cemetery. The pall bearers were Eric Davault, Kevin Davault, Jake Wilson, Edward Gray, John Collier and Ted Hancock.

Arrangements were under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.


Note: Mrs. Alex Pompe Jr. was Georgia H. (Drennan) Pompe. Georgia was the second cousin of Iva's first husband, Rainey Forrest Davault.

     Jacob Edwin Gray was born on 11 November 1880 at Ohio. He married Ida Belle Summers. Jacob Edwin Gray died on 29 June 1952 at Wilmington, Clinton Co., OH, at age 71.

     James Banning Gray was born on 20 October 1893 at Marshall Co., IA. He married Gladys Laurene Pike on 7 March 1923 at Maxwell, Story Co., IA. James Banning Gray died on 30 November 1958 at Marshall Co., IA, at age 65. He was buried in December 1958 at Eden Cemetery, Rhodes, Marshall Co., IA, Findagrave #36000430.

     James H. Gray was born in April 1850 at Virginia.¹ He began military service circa 1864 Company A, 22nd Virginia Infantry, joined Confederate Army at age 14 (Pension Request S16623, W11116.) He married Virginia A. Boring, daughter of Peter Harrison Boring and Mary A. DeVault, circa 1905. James H. Gray died on 31 March 1942 at age 91.      James Martin Gray was born on 20 October 1858 at Vichy, Maries Co., MO. He married Mary Jane Hays. James Martin Gray died on 23 November 1943 at Rolla, Phelps Co., MO, at age 85. He was buried in November 1943 at Wentzel Cemetery, Vichy, Maries Co., MO, Findagrave #42566309.

     Jane Gray was born on 25 December 1839 at Licking Co., OH. She married John W. Hirst. Jane Gray died on 1 February 1928 at Licking Co., OH, at age 88. She was buried in February 1928 at Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Licking Co., OH, Findagrave #38542509.

     Leon Gray was born on 1 January 1920. He married (?), daughter of Harold (?) and Zella Maud Windle, on 25 September 1942.

     Lillie Louise Gray was born on 25 May 1944. She married Clarence Andrew Collins. Lillie Louise Gray died on 28 November 1997 at age 53. She was buried in 1997 at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Nashville, Davidson Co., TN, Findagrave #82444625.

     Lona Frances Gray was born on 28 February 1917 at Ross Co., OH. She was the daughter of Jacob Edwin Gray and Ida Belle Summers. Lona Frances Gray married Raymond Wendell Hixson, son of Arthur L. Hixson and Elmyra Kidd, on 17 January 1935 at Ohio. Lona Frances Gray died on 28 November 2004 at Wilmington, Clinton Co., OH, at age 87.

     Louisa A. Gray was born circa 1819 at Tennessee.¹ She married John Rankin, son of David Rankin and Jane Bell Dinwiddie, circa 1836.

     Margaret Ruby Gray was born on 9 January 1889. She married Elmer Valentine Cornelius, son of George W. Cornelius and Caroline M. Phelps. Margaret Ruby Gray died in 1971.

     Martha J. Gray married James Weller.

     Mary Elizabeth Gray was also known as "Lizzie".¹ She was born on 14 March 1860 at Ohio.¹ She married Warren Michael circa 1880.¹ Mary Elizabeth Gray died in 1941.

     Mary Elizabeth Gray was born on 8 June 1844 at Dade Co., MO.¹ She married John Stockstill circa 1863.¹ Mary Elizabeth Gray died on 23 June 1930 at Cedar Co., MO, at age 86. She was buried in June 1930 at Sandridge Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, Cedar Co., MO, Findagrave #61470049.

     Mary Rebecca Gray was born on 14 December 1929 at Norfolk, VA. She married Albert Clay Atkins Jr. on 31 January 1952 at Norfolk, VA. Mary Rebecca Gray died on 29 August 1974 at Norfolk, VA, at age 44.

     Pearlie Mae Gray was born on 22 September 1915 at Tucker, Le Flore Co., OK; daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margarette Sarah (Smith) Gray.¹ She married Jack Kent on 21 July 1941 at Florence, Pinal Co., AZ, Pearlie was first married to Stirley Henry Land on 18 FEB 1933 at Caddo, Oklahoma and had a daughter, Thelma, b.16 OCT 1933, who was living with her father as of the 1940 census. Delmer was born 2 years later on 15 OCT 1935. Pearlie was living with Jack Kent as of the April 1940 census but didn't marry him until 1941. It seems most likely that Delmer was the biological son of Stirley Land, although Jack Kent may have been the only father he ever knew. DLB 2021.

Graveside services for Pearlie Mae Marcotte will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Lebanon Cemetery.

Visitation has been set for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Pearlie was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Tucker, Okla., the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margarette Sarah (Smith) Gray. She passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She had spent the past seven years at Vista Mesa Assisted Living in their loving care.

Pearlie loved children and cared for many children in the area in her own home. She was an avid gardener, enjoying the flowers and vegetables that she produced. She loved embroidery, quilting, crafts, cooking and passing her skills on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many will remember her from running the laundry in Dolores, taking care of their clothes as her own.

Surviving Pearlie are her sons, Jackie Joe Kent and wife Eunice, and Herbert Keith Kent and wife Betty; her daughters, Thelma Ann Newby and husband Johnny, and Pearlie Mae Chadwick and husband Mike; and her daughter-in-law, Gloria Kent. Eighteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jack Kent and Henry Marcotte; son Delmer Lee Kent; daughter Elizabeth Jane Norris; her siblings, Lena Gray-Hebblethwaith, Herbert Roy Gray and Ruby Belle Gray-Hartman; and grandson Rodney Kent.

     Thomas Gray was born in 1840. He married Mary Frances Hutchison, daughter of Samuel Hutchison and Tamar Locke, after July 1860 at Brown Co., OH. Thomas Gray married Josephine Hutchison, daughter of Samuel Hutchison and Tamar Locke.

     Truel R. Gray was born circa 1861 at Maine.¹ He married Mary C. Swigart, daughter of Solomon Swigart and Rebecca Campbell, on 29 November 1906 at Greene Co., OH.¹

     Austin C. Graybeal married Mary Kate Copp, daughter of William McDonald Copp and Birdie Beatrice Copp. Austin C. Graybeal was born on 3 January 1896 at Ashe Co., NC. He died in September 1965 at Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, at age 69.

     Elizabeth Graybill married Thomas Kinzie.¹

     Homer F. Graybill was born on 18 February 1870 at Montgomery Co., IN; son of Josephus and Mary Jane (Frame) Graybill. He married Edith May Rapp, daughter of Matthias Alexander Rapp and Margaret Emily Gilmore, on 18 February 1897 at Montgomery Co., IN, no children. Homer F. Graybill died on 11 December 1947 at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., IN, at age 77. He was buried on 14 December 1947 at Ladoga Cemetery, Ladoga, Montgomery Co., IN, Findagrave #14226133.
