The marriage of Hubert H. Gray and Miss Alva Murr took place in the Arlington hotel in Johnson City, Monday, April 10th, in the presence of a few friends. Elder P. D. Reed, of Limestone was the officiating minister. Although the wedding had been expected yet the time and place was a surprise to their many friends.

The bride is a daughter f M. S. Murr of near Telford. The groom is the oldest son of W. D. A. Gray, and engaged in the mercantile business under the firm name of W. D. Gray & Sons, having a store on the old stage road at Oakland.

Mr. and Mrs. Gray came from the best families in Washington county, and both have a wide circle of relatives and friends who wish for them a happy and prosperous journey through life. They returned on train No. 8 to Telford and went to the Gray home where a delicious supper was served.

Hubert H. Gray was Member, Limestone Church of the Brethren. He died on 17 March 1984 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Johnson City, Washington Co., TN, at age 95. He was buried in March 1984 at Limestone Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Limestone, Washington Co., TN, Findagrave #54135180.

Iva Louvonie Gray

Iva Davault Biles

Iva Davault Biles, daughter of the late James and Mary (Hayes) Gray, was born Oct. 1, 1893, in Phelps Co., Missouri and died Dec. 5, 1980, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. She was 87.

Mrs. Biles had lived in the St. James and Redbird area except for 12 years she lived in Owensville.

She was married to Rainey Davault in 1913. They had three children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rainey; one daughter, Helen Kinsey; seven brothers, William E. Gray, Walter Gray, Jesse Gray, Perry Gray, Arthur Gray, John Gray and Elex Gray; three sisters, Anna Gray, Stella Rogers and an infant baby girl.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur Davault of Bland, and Gene Davault of St. James, two sisters, Alice Rowland of Caruthersville, and Della Rabb of Granite City, Ill; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, Dec 7 at 2 p.m. in the James and Gahr Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Gentry officiating.

Miss Corrinne Stumpf was the soloist accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Alex Pompe Jr.

Interment was in the Southard Cemetery. The pall bearers were Eric Davault, Kevin Davault, Jake Wilson, Edward Gray, John Collier and Ted Hancock.

Arrangements were under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.


Note: Mrs. Alex Pompe Jr. was Georgia H. (Drennan) Pompe. Georgia was the second cousin of Iva's first husband, Rainey Forrest Davault.

She was buried in December 1980 at Southard Cemetery, Phelps Co., MO, Findagrave #63643347.

     Pearlie Mae Gray was born on 22 September 1915 at Tucker, Le Flore Co., OK; daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margarette Sarah (Smith) Gray.1 She married Jack Kent on 21 July 1941 at Florence, Pinal Co., AZ, Pearlie was first married to Stirley Henry Land on 18 FEB 1933 at Caddo, Oklahoma and had a daughter, Thelma, b.16 OCT 1933, who was living with her father as of the 1940 census. Delmer was born 2 years later on 15 OCT 1935. Pearlie was living with Jack Kent as of the April 1940 census but didn't marry him until 1941. It seems most likely that Delmer was the biological son of Stirley Land, although Jack Kent may have been the only father he ever knew. DLB 2021.

Graveside services for Pearlie Mae Marcotte will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at the Lebanon Cemetery.

Visitation has been set for Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Pearlie was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Tucker, Okla., the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Margarette Sarah (Smith) Gray. She passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. She had spent the past seven years at Vista Mesa Assisted Living in their loving care.

Pearlie loved children and cared for many children in the area in her own home. She was an avid gardener, enjoying the flowers and vegetables that she produced. She loved embroidery, quilting, crafts, cooking and passing her skills on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many will remember her from running the laundry in Dolores, taking care of their clothes as her own.

Surviving Pearlie are her sons, Jackie Joe Kent and wife Eunice, and Herbert Keith Kent and wife Betty; her daughters, Thelma Ann Newby and husband Johnny, and Pearlie Mae Chadwick and husband Mike; and her daughter-in-law, Gloria Kent. Eighteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren also survive her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Jack Kent and Henry Marcotte; son Delmer Lee Kent; daughter Elizabeth Jane Norris; her siblings, Lena Gray-Hebblethwaith, Herbert Roy Gray and Ruby Belle Gray-Hartman; and grandson Rodney Kent.
