     Marquis B. Alkire was also known as "Marcus".2 He was born on 10 September 1851 at Hancock Co. (probably), IL.1,2 He was the son of Gideon George Alkire and Elizabeth Hanson.1 Marquis B. Alkire married Mary E. Huffhines, daughter of Christopher Columbus Huffhines and Martha Washington Smith, circa 1878, Four children born, three living as of the 1900 census.2 Marquis B. Alkire lived on 5 June 1900 at Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.2 He died on 25 April 1934 at Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, at age 82. He was buried in April 1934 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dallas, Dallas Co., TX.

Ritchie on 3 July 1922 at Siskiyou Co., CA, no children. Martha E. Alkire lived in April 1930 at 1158 North Maryland Avenue, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., CA.2 She lived in April 1940 at 1540 Kenneth Road, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., CA.3 She died on 15 March 1973 at Los Angeles Co., CA, at age 77 Dates per SSDI, last residence Glendale.

Minnie E. Alkire

F, b. August 1895, d. after April 1940
     Minnie E. Alkire was born in August 1895 at Williamsport, Pickaway Co., OH.1,2 She was the daughter of Abraham Lincoln Alkire and Mary Jane Hughes.2
Note: Minnie served as an Army nurse during WW I. She is listed on the passenger list of the Heredia as departing St. Nazaire, France on 3 FEB 1919 and arriving at Hoboken, NJ on 25 FEB 1919. Her home address was listed as Chillicothe but 579 East Water Street was actually Williamsport, Ohio. Minnie E. Alkire married Voy Joe Boots, son of Stephen Boots and Anna Buskirk, on 31 August 1925 at Franklin Co., OH, This marriage appears to have broken up by 1940. In the 1940 census, Minnie Boots is listed as married, a domestic servant, but Voy was not listed with her. On his WW II draft registration, Voy gave his sister Theureda Dooley as his emergency contact. No evidence of any children.

Minnie E. Alkire died after April 1940.

The Lincoln Evening News, Thursday March 7, page 8:

"Mrs. Charles Whyman died at her home in Adams this morning at 3:15 of heart failure at the age of seventy-three years. Mrs. Whyman had been in poor health for some time, but was feeling unusually well last evening and died in the morning very suddenly, before a physician could be summoned or any assistance called in. She leaves her husband and twelve children, Messrs. F.E., O.H., C.A., V.W., O.H., W.H. and T.H. Whyman, and Mesdames L.O. Clark, J.A. Sumpter, C.C. Coffman, W.C. Gray and Miss Edith Whyman, who are widely known here and over the state. The Whyman family settled in this vicinity in the spring of 1868, and were among the most highly esteemed families of this section. Mrs. Whyman was a lady of culture and refinement and of noble qualities. The news of her death will carry sorrow to a great many devoted friends. The time for the funeral has not yet been definitively determined, but will probably occur on Friday."
