Thomas Alsop

M, b. 7 September 1687, d. before 14 October 1743
     Occupation: He served for some years as a magistrate in Newtown, but subsequently entered into mercantile pursuits in New York, where he d. in Sep. 1743, having the previous year lost his wife and three daughters. He left ch. Richard, Robert, Thomas, Mary, wife of James Way, Lydia, and Sarah, who m. John Leggett of Westchester. The three sons became Quakers. Robert remained many years in Newtown; Thomas located in Hampstead, and Richard, at Oyster Bay.

Thomas Alsop was born on 7 September 1687. He was the son of Capt. Richard Alsop and Hannah Underhill. Thomas Alsop married Susannah Blackwell, daughter of Robert Blackwell, on 5 February 1708 at Queens Co. (probably), NY, "The Annals of Newtown in Queens County," by James Riker, Jr, 1852, p. 334-336.1 Thomas Alsop left a will on 8 September 1743 at New York City, NY; Authority - New York City Wills, 1730-44, page 127:

In the name of God, Amen. I, THOMAS ALSOP, of New York, merchant, being
sick and weak. All my debts are to be paid, and I give power to my executors to sell my house and lot in New York, bounded west by a lot of land belonging to the heirs of one Quick, east by a lot of land of Bergerow, southerly upon the street in the Vly. I leave to my children, THOMAS, LYDIA, and SARAH, C100 each, and to each of my daughters a bed and furniture, a chest of drawers and a table. To my grand daughter, SUSANAH FISH, C10. To my grandson, JOHN WAY, C5. All the rest to my children, RICHARD, ROBERT, THOMAS, MARY WAY, LIDIA, and SARAH. I make my sons, and my son-in-law, JAMES WAY, JR., and my good friend, James Burling, executors.

Alt married Mary Virginia Smith, daughter of John F. Smith and Mary Ann Miller, on 26 August 1884.1 Rev. S. A. Alt lived in 1926 at Auburn, Shawnee Co., KS.1 He died after 1926 at Auburn, Shawnee Co., KS, Rev. S. A. Alt, after attending country school in his native County, began teaching at 19; taught and prepared for college; entered Franklin and Marshall in 1876; graduated class of 1880; taught in a private normal school one year and entered the Theological Seminary at Lancaster, Pa., Sept. 1882; graduated May 1884. Went immediately after to Iola, Kans., as a missionary. In 1889 moved to Michigan after two years service was called to the chair of languages in Wichita University; after teaching four years he took up pastoral service in Holton, Kans., and has been actively engaged in the ministry since.1

Windell, daughter of Lafayette Marquis Windell and Rebecca E. Dobson, on 29 March 1904 at Floyd Co., IN. Heinrich August Altevogt died on 24 September 1954 at Jefferson Co., KY, at age 78.
