Fourteen members of the U.S.S. San Diego Post 207 of La Porte City conducted military rites Friday, Dec. 27th at the Methodist church at Brandon, for Thomas D. Johnson, 26, who was killed in the two-car crash north of La Porte City on Highway 218 about 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23rd. Burial was made in the Urbana cemetery in charge of the Johannsen-Rossow Funeral Home.
Survivors are his widow; son Tommy, 2 1/2; daughter Teresa, 1 1/2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson Sr., La Porte City; two sisters, Mrs. Dolores Thorne, Denver, Colo., Patricia of La Porte City; two brothers, Ronald and Robert Jr., both of La Porte City. Mr. Johnson was employed at the John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo.

Two others were killed in this accident. Benjamin S Cashner, Jr was driving the car in which Thomas was a passenger and Anna Zola Tompkins Nissen, age 59, was in the other car. Those injured were Mrs. Nissen's niece and her four children, and Cashner's twin brother, Bert Cashner.

He was buried in December 1963 at Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, Benton Co., IA, Findagrave #59077055.
