Hazel Lavaughn Hickman was born to Elgin and Lorana Hickman on July 12, 1918 in Harrison County, Missouri. She passed away on January 26, 1975 at Earlham, Iowa. She has four sisters; Juanita Craig of Ridgeway, Mo., Dorothy Roberts of Bethany, Mo., Thelma Harrold of Kansas City, Mo., and Delores Damewood of Milan, Mo; and two brothers: Leroy Hickman of Gowrie, Mo., and Garvin Hickman of Portland, Oregon, all of which are still living.

She was preceded in deatth by her father, Elgin Hickman.

Hazel graduated from high school in Ridgeway, Mo. and was married to Rollin Ira Eivins on August 22, 1935. To this union was born eight children: Bradley Clint of Minburn, Gordon Eugene of Panora, Frederick Lee of Woodward, Dennis Del of Ankeny, Wilma Lavo Davis of Independence, Mo., Virginia Rose McLoud of Earlham, and Rhonda Irene and Rhoda Ilene, both still at home.

There are twenty grandchildren surviving their grandmother. She also is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Hazel was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church at Cainsville, Mo. and was baptised in September of 1935.

Hazel will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman of tremendous faith and self-will. During her long illness she was a constant source of inspiration to everyone who visited her or attended her. Often one would come away from talking to her feeling blessed by her words and courage, even though she was at the time in much pain. She knew the Lord as a personal ever-present companion and He comforted her even in the worst she had to bear.

She will be greatly missed by her husband and children especially, and joyfully welcomed by the Lord.

Services were conducted at the Earlham Friends Church on January 28, with Glenn Moore assisted by Rev. Davis of Pleasant Valley Church, Cainsville, Mo. Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery.

She was buried in January 1975 at Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Madison Co., IA, Findagrave #75458809.

     Hiram E. Hickman married Rachel A. Baker, daughter of Anthony Baker and Elizabeth D. Windell, on 28 February 1892 at Harrison Co., IN.

     Joshua Hickman married Sarah Softon.

     Keith Iris Hickman was born on 12 January 1926. He was the son of Frank Iris Hickman and Leona Barbara Davis. Keith Iris Hickman died on 19 March 1964 at age 38.

     L. Nelson Hickman married Helen Elizabeth Flock, daughter of Noble Harvey Flock and Ade Ellen Wurm. L. Nelson Hickman was born on 1 May 1911.

     Larry G. Hickman was born on 22 January 1950 at Summit Co., OH.¹ He was the son of Devere Hickman and Hattie Roop.¹ Larry G. Hickman lived in 1975 at Chula Vista, San Diego Co., CA. He lived between 1983 and 2020 at Minden, Douglas Co., NV. He died on 13 November 2005 at age 55.

     Louella Hickman was born on 18 June 1910 at Sarahsville, Noble Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Theodore Hickman and Julia Van Dyne.^1,2 Louella Hickman married Charles Thomas Moore, son of Jack Moore and Margaret Ellen Davis, on 7 March 1928 at Noble Co., OH. Louella Hickman died in 2002 at Village View Cemetery, Sarahsville, Noble Co., OH, Findagrave #73940285.

     Louisa M. Hickman was born on 18 August 1855 at Missouri.¹ She married Edward A. Grotjan on 9 January 1876 at Chariton Co., MO. Louisa M. Hickman died in March 1927 at Cortland, Gage Co., NE, at age 71.

     Mildred E. Hickman was born on 21 February 1920 at Texas. She was the daughter of Alfred James Hickman and Nora Belle Nida. Mildred E. Hickman married Harry Bernell Belvel, son of David Tullis Belvel and Milla Ann McLaughlin, circa 1939. Mildred E. Hickman died on 12 November 2000 at Trenton, Grundy Co., MO, at age 80.

     Nancy Virginia Hickman was born in 1835 at Fairmount Plantation, Grant Par., LA. She married James Monroe Rhorer in 1855 at New Orleans, Orleans Par., LA. Nancy Virginia Hickman died on 1 June 1927 at Fairmount Plantation, Grant Par., LA.

     Ralph Pierce Hickman was born on 20 April 1920 at Bisbee, Cochise Co., AZ. He began military service on 15 November 1945 at Phoenix, Maricopa Co., FL, WW II service, Enlisted, U.S. Army Air Corps. He married LaDounia Katherine Roles, daughter of Jewel Cleaburn Roles and Emma Erma Woody, circa 1946. Ralph Pierce Hickman died on 8 April 1988 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK, at age 67. He was buried in April 1988 at Resthaven Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK, Findagrave #141649707.

She was the daughter of Joshua Hickman and Sarah Softon. Reola Elizabeth Hickman married James Wesley Roberson, son of James Robert Roberson and Mary Sarah Elizabeth Aldridge, on 28 September 1921 at Sebastian Co., AR. Reola Elizabeth Hickman died on 25 November 1975 at Rough and Ready, Nevada Co., CA, at age 100.

     Richard Davis Hickman was born on 31 December 1923. He was the son of Frank Iris Hickman and Leona Barbara Davis.

     Theodore Hickman was born on 8 March 1874 at Sarahsville, Noble Co., OH, or 1873, per WW I draft registration and 1920 census.^2,1 He married Julia Van Dyne. Theodore Hickman lived on 2 January 1920 at Jackson Street, Sarahsville, Noble Co., OH, coal miner.¹ He died on 30 November 1939 at Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH, at age 65. He was buried in December 1939 at Village View Cemetery, Sarahsville, Noble Co., OH, Findagrave #37138747.

     William Hickman married Polly Woodward, daughter of Thomas Woodward and Rachael Jane Starr, on 6 August 1809 at Bourbon Co., KY.

     Orlinda L. Hickox was born circa 1828 at Medina Co., OH. She married Chauncey D. Wright. Orlinda L. Hickox died after 18 May 1860.

     Alma Lynn Hicks was born on 16 May 1919. She married Boyd Burns Wendell, son of William Eddison Wendell and Elsie G. Gribben, in 1940 at Ohio Co., WV. Alma Lynn Hicks died on 15 March 2007 at age 87.

     Bobby Gene Hicks was born on 27 December 1938 at Washington Co., TN; son of Harrison Eli and Mary Sophronia "Fronie" (Baines) Hicks; foster son of Beryl Robert and Bonnie Mae (Cox) Sells of Jonesborough.

Mr. Bobby Gene Hicks, 68, Gray, died on Sunday, January 7, 2007, surrounded by his family at his residence following an extended illness.

A native of Washington County, Mr. Hicks had lived his entire life in the Gray area. He was the son of the late Harry & Fronie Hicks. His foster parents were the late Beryl & Bonnie Sells.

Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and served in the Army Reserve for three years. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hicks was a farmer at age 11 and worked for Tennessee Eastman until 1970 when he formed Hicks Construction Company. He was an active member of the Johnson City Area Home Builders Association and served as President in 1983 and 1984. Mr. Hicks was Builder of the Year in 1988 and 1994. He served as President of the Home Builders Association of Tennessee in 1990 and was Builder of the Year in 1988 and 1994. In 2002, he was inducted into the Building Industry of Tennessee Hall of Fame. He currently owned Gray Mini Warehouses and Office Complex in Gary.

Mr. Hicks served 12 years as a Washington County Commissioner. He served on the Washington County/Johnson City Chamber of Commerce and the Washington County/Johnson City Economic Development Board. Because of his active involvement in community service, the Gray Library and the EMS buildings were named in his honor.

Mr. Hicks was elected State Representative for the 6th District of Washington County in1994 through 1998 and continually lobbied for better roads, growth and development in Upper East Tennessee. His driving force while in the legislature was the widening of Highway 75, resulting in the highway being renamed the Bobby Hicks Highway by the State Legislative Body.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Long Hicks of the home; a son, Timothy Hicks and wife, Keri, of Gray; two daughters, Alisa Rogers and husband, Johnny, and Debi Camden and husband Dan, all of Gray; three grandsons, Kyle Hicks, of Knoxville, Jacob Rogers and Nick Ferguson, both of Gray; two brothers, Bryl Hicks of Riverside, CA, and J. D. Hicks of Limestone; four sisters, Carolyn Babb of Fall Branch, Susie Phelps and Zelda Nunley, both of Kingsport, and Carolyn Smith of Johnson City. Mr. Hicks is also survived by Sally Hicks, a wonderful lady and mother of his children. Also surviving are Chastity Rodriguez and Anna Tubbs, who have been a part of his family for the past 18 years. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Andrew Hicks; three brothers, Paul, John, and Herbert Hicks; and a sister, Frances Chase.

A Celebration of Life Service for Bobby Hicks will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, January 9 at Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Mitch McClure and Rev. Charles Galliher officiating. Music will be provided by Bill and Leroy Long and Carter Warden. The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 PM and from 5 – 7 PM. A Committal Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday in Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacob Rogers, Nick Ferguson, Kyle Hicks, Dwayne Littleton, Scott Buckingham, Mark Sizemore, and Rick Beeson. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Storey, Mike Freeman, Galen Fitzgerald, Jack Mottern, John Ford, Chuck Mason, Elmer Tate, Joe Stitt, Wilburn White, and Bill McKay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to the Bobby Hicks Challenger League Memorial Fund, 112 Industrial Road, Suite 1, Gray, TN 37615, which is a baseball league for mentally and physically challenged children.
