Hazel Lavaughn Hickman was born to Elgin and Lorana Hickman on July 12, 1918 in Harrison County, Missouri. She passed away on January 26, 1975 at Earlham, Iowa. She was preceded in deatth by her father, Elgin Hickman.
Hazel graduated from high school in Ridgeway, Mo. and was married to Rollin Ira Eivins on August 22, 1935. To this union was born eight children: Bradley Clint of Minburn, Gordon Eugene of Panora, Frederick Lee of Woodward, Dennis Del of Ankeny, Wilma Lavo Davis of Independence, Mo., Virginia Rose McLoud of Earlham, and Rhonda Irene and Rhoda Ilene, both still at home.
There are twenty grandchildren surviving their grandmother. She also is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Hazel was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church at Cainsville, Mo. and was baptised in September of 1935.
Hazel will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman of tremendous faith and self-will. During her long illness she was a constant source of inspiration to everyone who visited her or attended her. Often one would come away from talking to her feeling blessed by her words and courage, even though she was at the time in much pain. She knew the Lord as a personal ever-present companion and He comforted her even in the worst she had to bear.
She will be greatly missed by her husband and children especially, and joyfully welcomed by the Lord.
Services were conducted at the Earlham Friends Church on January 28, with Glenn Moore assisted by Rev. Davis of Pleasant Valley Church, Cainsville, Mo. Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery.
She was buried in January 1975 at Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Madison Co., IA, Findagrave #75458809.

Mr. Bobby Gene Hicks, 68, Gray, died on Sunday, January 7, 2007, surrounded by his family at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Washington County, Mr. Hicks had lived his entire life in the Gray area. He was the son of the late Harry & Fronie Hicks. His foster parents were the late Beryl & Bonnie Sells.
Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School and served in the Army Reserve for three years. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hicks was a farmer at age 11 and worked for Tennessee Eastman until 1970 when he formed Hicks Construction Company. He was an active member of the Johnson City Area Home Builders Association and served as President in 1983 and 1984. Mr. Hicks was Builder of the Year in 1988 and 1994. He served as President of the Home Builders Association of Tennessee in 1990 and was Builder of the Year in 1988 and 1994. In 2002, he was inducted into the Building Industry of Tennessee Hall of Fame. He currently owned Gray Mini Warehouses and Office Complex in Gary.
Mr. Hicks served 12 years as a Washington County Commissioner. He served on the Washington County/Johnson City Chamber of Commerce and the Washington County/Johnson City Economic Development Board. Because of his active involvement in community service, the Gray Library and the EMS buildings were named in his honor.
Mr. Hicks was elected State Representative for the 6th District of Washington County in1994 through 1998 and continually lobbied for better roads, growth and development in Upper East Tennessee. His driving force while in the legislature was the widening of Highway 75, resulting in the highway being renamed the Bobby Hicks Highway by the State Legislative Body.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Long Hicks of the home; a son, Timothy Hicks and wife, Keri, of Gray; two daughters, Alisa Rogers and husband, Johnny, and Debi Camden and husband Dan, all of Gray; three grandsons, Kyle Hicks, of Knoxville, Jacob Rogers and Nick Ferguson, both of Gray; two brothers, Bryl Hicks of Riverside, CA, and J. D. Hicks of Limestone; four sisters, Carolyn Babb of Fall Branch, Susie Phelps and Zelda Nunley, both of Kingsport, and Carolyn Smith of Johnson City. Mr. Hicks is also survived by Sally Hicks, a wonderful lady and mother of his children. Also surviving are Chastity Rodriguez and Anna Tubbs, who have been a part of his family for the past 18 years.
