Obituary – The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, California; Monday, 11 MAY 1998, page 17 (Newspapers.com):

KING, NORMAN ELLIOTT
Oct. 6, 1917 – Apr. 30, 1998
Norman was born of the parents Wade and Mable King and raised on a farm in Northwest Ohio, where he graduated from Mt. Cory High School in 1935. He attended Bowling Green State University, graduating with a degree in education in 1939. He taught high school in his alma mater for one year. Norman then entered the Army/Air Corps and was sent to New York University to study meteorology, earning a graduate degree in June, 1941.

Norman and Marsella began their marriage moving from one air base to another, following Norman’s flight training around the Southern U.S. Once he became qualified as an aviator, he was ordered to Italy, where he flew cargo missions across Europe at the close of WW II. Following the war, Norman returned home, completing the first 12 years of his military service as a weather forecaster, pilot staff weather officer and weather unit commander. During the balance of his 28 year Air Force career, his duties covered all phases of air operations and air transportation. Most notably was his command of the 5039th Air Transport Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska. Norman was awarded various military awards including the Air Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal for his service to his country. His family enjoyed assignments in Hawaii, Alaska and Norway in addition to many in the continental U.S.

Immediately after he retired from the Air Force at Travis, Norman moved to Sacramento and began a new career, working for the State of California. First, he worked in the water resources division, but soon transferred to the computer center where her (sic) progressed quickly to the position of state wide liaison. He held this position until his second retirement in June, 1981. Throughout his career with the state, Norman earned his real estate broker’s license and continued in that field (his third career) until his death.

Norman and his wife, Marsella, were members of the First Covenant Church of Sacramento for 27 years. They recently moved to Turlock where they joined the Turlock Covenant Church.

Norman is survived by his wife, Marsella and four children: Ed of Stockton, Don of Salinas, Dean of Hemet and Nancy of Rocklin. He was also blessed with six grand children and wonderful in-laws.

Memorial Services to be held Thursday, May 14, at the First Covenant Church, 9000 La Riviera Dr., Rancho Cordova at 1:00 p.m.

He was buried in May 1998 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Findlay, Hancock Co., OH, Findagrave #180297484.
