WIFE SUES ARTHUR S. ZELL
Society Woman Asks Divorce From
President of Motor Company
Special to the Washington Post.
Baltimore, June 30. - Mrs. Eleanor Roberts Zell, a prominent society woman, today filed a bill for absolute divorce against her husband, Arthur Stanley Zell, president and treasure of the Zell Motor Company, on the grounds of desertion. Mrs. Zell asks for a permanent alimony for the support of herself and her son, 11 years old.
The bill says that Mr. Zell deserted her three years ago, and since that time has had nothing to do with her. Mrs. Zell maintains that she had conducted herself always as a faithful and loving wife, and that his desertion was without cause. She says a reconciliation is impossible.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - Baltimore American (Baltimore, MD); July 1, 1911; Page: 17; (GenealogyBank.com):

MRS. ZELL SEEKS DIVORCE
Suit for Absolute Decree Filed Against Arthur Stanley Zell.
Mrs. Eleanor Roberts Zell, who is socially prominent in this city, yesterday in the Circuit Court filed a bill for an absolute divorce from Arthur Stanley Zell. In the bill of complaint, filed through Attorney Christopher R. Wattenscheidt, Mrs. Zell states that she was married in Wilmington, Del., August 28, 1899, by Rev. Dr. Short. The couple, according to the bill, have one child, Sidney Stanley Zell, who is about 11 years old, having been born July 30, 1900.
The bill states that Mr. and Mrs. Zell lived together in Baltimore until about February 22, 1908, when she states, Mr. Zell left her. Mrs. Zell states that the abandonment has continued for more than three consecutive years prior to the filling of the bill and that the separation and abandonment is deliberate and final and beyond any and all reasonable hope or expectation of reconciliation.
Mrs. Zell states in the bill that while Mr. Zell has made provision for her and her son's maintenance, since the separation she is totally without support and must look to Mr. Zell for her continued maintenance, as she says he is possessed of a substantial and valuable estate and is credited with being a prosperous automobile dealer and a successful and sagacious business man.
Besides an absolute divorce, Mrs. Zell asks that she be awarded permanent alimony commensurate with her needs, station and condition.

DIVORCE ANNOUNCEMENT - Baltimore American (Baltimore, MD); August 5, 1911; Page: 11; (GenealogyBank.com):

MRS. ZELL DIVORCED
An Absolute Decree Granted From Mr. Arthur Stanley Zell
Eleanor Roberts Zell was granted an absolute divorce from her husband, Arthur Stanley Zell, president and treasure of the Zell Motor Company, by a decree signed by Judge Stump in the Circuit Court yesterday. Suit for divorce was filed by Mrs. Zell on June 30, on the grounds of desertion.
By the terms of the decree signed yesterday, Mrs. Zell is to get $175 a month alimony beginning September 1, to continue until her death or remarriage, and the husband must pay the cost of the proceedings and $250 counsel fee to the solicitor for the complainant.
The couple were married in Wilmington, Del., on August 28, 1899, by Rev. Dr. Short, of the Episcopal Church of that place. In the deposition made before the court, Mrs. Zell claims that her husband deserted her on February 22, 1908, and states that he sent her every month after he left her, $225 for the car of her child, Sidney S. Zell, a 11-year-old son.
In the deposition, Mrs. Zell sets forth that her husband suggested the idea of divorce on the grounds of extravagance, declaring that he "could stand it no longer." Mr. Zell in his answer denies that he left his wife without just cause and ........ and states that relations between himself and his wife became intolerable, claiming extravagance on her part which threw him into debt. Mr. Randolph Barton was the attorney for Mr. Zell.

Eleanor R. Roberts died on 5 July 1937 at Germantown, Philadelphia Co., PA, at age 55.
