John Henry Persinger

     Note: Sometime between 1850 and 1860 John Henry and Nancy moved their family to Sullivan County, Tennessee. While there, they had 2 or 3 more children. When the civil war broke out, Sullivan county was mostly pro-slavery. Several of the Persinger boys fought for the Union. One was killed. Not long after the end of the war, 3 or 4 of the boys homesteaded land in Republic County, Kansas. John Henry, Nancy, and the rest of the 11 or 12 kids and families all moved to Republic County. John Henry died shortly after the move.

The name Persinger is Americanized for the Swiss name Berdschinger (sp). One Jacob Berdschinger boarded the ship Mercury in Europe. When the ship landed in 1736 in Philadelpia, Jacob "Perdschinger" was sworn to the Oath of Allegiance. Jacob Perdschinger was later found living in Virginia. John Henry Persinger died at Republic Co., KS. He was born at Botetourt Co., VA. He married Nancy Carnes.

Richard Earl Persinger, 86, of Emporia passed away Sunday June 2, 2013 at Holiday Resort.
Richard was born December 25, 1926 in Oak Valley Township Kansas to Earl and Millicent Persinger. He had been a farmer in his early years and had been a welder for Sauder Custom Fabrication, retiring in 1992. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran having served in occupied Japan. Richard had been a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Emporia since 1963.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bill Persinger; granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole Werner; and great-grandson, Adrian Lewis-Solano.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Persinger; sons, Edward (Debe) Persinger of Las Cruces, NM, and Ben (Loretta) Persinger of Emporia, KS; daughters, Alice (Bill) Fauerbach of Emporia, KS, Jean (Tom) Werner of Emporia, KS, and Milly (Mark) Gallik of Ruffsdale, PA; brother, Earnie Persinger of Longton, KS; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will take place at the First Church of the Nazarene 2931 W. 24th Ave. in Emporia, June 6, 2013 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, Friday, June 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside service will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, KS on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2:30 p.m.

YORK - Daniel N. Peterman, 83, of York, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane "Janie" (Jones) Peterman.

Mr. Peterman was born May 6, 1917, in York. He was the son of the late Claude L. and Katharine (Neff) Peterman.
He was associated with D.S. Peterman and Company Inc. since 1939 and served as its president since 1971. He was a member and former treasurer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was a member of The Country Club of York, Historical Society of York County and York Agricultural Society. He was a life member of Two/Ten Foundation Inc. and York Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a charter member of Association of Footwear Distributors and served on the Board of Directors for Mellon Bank of York. He was a graduate of University of North Carolina, York Collegiate Institute and York High School.
Mr. Peterman is survived by two sons, Charles N. Peterman of Red Lion and Daniel N. Peterman Jr. of Dallastown; three grandchildren; a sister, Mollie Pedrick of York; and nieces and nephews.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. John J. Wenzke, and the Rev. Joseph W. Seitz, a retired pastor.
