William Thomas Lanning, who has been a constant sufferer for the past two years, died at his home near Guernsey, Sunday evening, April 12, of lung trouble. Although he had been ill so long and it was evident that his life was drawing to a close, his death came as a shock to the family and friends. Only about two weeks had he been confined to his room. He was such a patient sufferer, scarcely ever complaining, but always trying to look on the bright side and ever ready with a cheerful word to encourage the friends about him. Everything that medical skill could do was resorted to, but it was the will of the Heavenly Father, who is too wise to err, and too loving to be unkind, to call him away from his earthly home, away from companions, and children who now mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. A place in the home is made vacant which can never be filled and many hearts are sad because of this separation. William Thomas Lanning, only son of James and Ruth Lanning was born December 4, 1849. He was married to Margaret DeVault June 17, 1871 and died April 12, 1903, aged 52 years 4 months and 7 days. To them were born ten children- William, Everett, Isiah, Sadie, Charles, Hattie Buchanan, Mattie Hicks, Eva Hazelett, James and Nora who died in 1898 and a daughter who died in infancy. He also leaves six sisters to mourn his departure. He was a member of the Guernsey M. P. church, having united with the same about eighteen years ago, but for some time past his affliction had deprived him of the privileges of the sanctuary. Rev. C. M. Porter of Kimbolton conducted the funeral services and spoke words of comfort from the 1st Corinthians 15:55 to 57. With those named below acting as pall bearers, his body was borne to the Jones Cemetery where rests the body of a kind and loving father and helpful neighbor; James, Will and Everett Lanning, David Buchanan, Lemuel Hazelett and Henry Hicks. Man friends are left to mourn his loss and the sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved family.
