Melvin Landis Moyer was born on 2 November 1885 at Lansdale, Montgomery Co., PA, Wanger book says 1886, but 1900 census shows 1885. Census shows Melvin as stepson (relationship to head of household). Census shows Laura was mother of 5, all living at that time, which would make Melvin her biological son. Best guess is he was an out-of-wedlock son who took the Moyer name. DLB 2008.1,2 He was the son of Henry Moyer and Laura Cassel.1 Melvin Landis Moyer lived in 1926 at Mt. Holly, Burlington Co., NJ.1

M, b. 23 January 1897, d. 15 February 1921
Paul H. Moyer was born on 23 January 1897.1 He was the son of Harvey P. Moyer and Elizabeth Leslie.1 Paul H. Moyer died on 15 February 1921 at age 24 At the time of his death was in the service of the U.S. Geological Survey of the Dept. of the Interior. During the World War was commissioned 2d Lieut., Coast Artillery, having won his commission at the training school at the Fortress Monroe, Va. Was a graduate of the University of Chicago and expected to return in the fall of 1921 to resume his studies with a view of obtaining the Ph.D. degree.

From the Congregational Church "Chronicle", Hyde Park, Chicago: "Paul was highly esteemed by the young people of the church; he was respected and liked wherever he went. He was one of the young men whom the officials of the Geological Survey had marked for promotion. His University professors have sincerely spoken words of the highest praise of him. One of the professors, who was at the same time a teacher and friend, with whom he often talked over his hopes and plans and ambitions, writes: 'I feel that I knew him well. So I say that not alone was he a first-rate student, with great promise for the future, but that his character was sterling. He rang true when we first knew him, he assayed true and fine in his more advanced work. He was a prince of a man; genuinely so in every sense of the expression. He was clean, he was upright, he was conscientious, he was sincere, he was warm-hearted.1' "
