Longtime Anchorage resident Betty Lou McFadden Schmidt, 65, died Dec. 24 at Providence Hospital due to complications with diabetes. Memorial services took place in Homer and Anchorage. Burial took place at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Schmidt was born April 6, 1929, in Montezuma, Kan., to Frank and Vivian McFadden. She moved to Alaska in 1952. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Homer, the Homer Senior Center, Homer Garden Club and Pioneers of Alaska Auxiliary 14. She taught cake decorating at Anchorage Community College, was a leader of Brownies and Girl Scouts of America, and served on election boards in Anchorage. She also worked as a volunteer at the Pratt Museum in Homer. She enjoyed working with clay, Native basket-weaving, oil painting and decorating cakes.

Mrs. Schimdt is survived by her husband, Delmore of Homer; daughters, Linn Seidel of Anchorage, Gayle Young of Port Alexander and Sonya (Artemis) Schmidt of Juneau; brothers, Jerald and Theodore, sister, Carolee Reichenborn, all of Kansas; and five grandchildren.      Elsa Annabel McFadden was born on 21 August 1927. She was the daughter of Frank D. McFadden and Vivian A. Rundell. Elsa Annabel McFadden married Maj. Robert Dean Huffman.      Theodore Frank McFadden was born on 4 August 1925. He was the son of Frank D. McFadden and Vivian A. Rundell. Theodore Frank McFadden married Bertha Mary Foster, daughter of George K. Foster and Lula (?). Theodore Frank McFadden died on 25 November 2003 at age 78. He was buried in November 2003 at Morningside Cemetery, Montezuma, Gray Co., KS.

     Beatrice Mae McFadzen was born on 27 July 1907 at Plover, Pocahontas Co., IA. She was the daughter of Harry McFadzen and Janet Henderson. Beatrice Mae McFadzen was born on July 27, 1907, near Plover. She was the daughter of Harry and Janet (Henderson) McFadzen. Bea was educated in Plover area schools, graduating from Plover High School in 1925. She received her teaching diploma from Iowa State Teachers College, at Cedar Falls, in 1928. Bea taught school in Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Plymouth, and Calhoun counties. She retired from D.M.T.school near Rolfe in 1957.

Bea married Glenn Lent on December 31, 1944, at Plover. The couple made their home on their farm south of Plover. Glenn died on October 16, 1982, and Bea continued to make her home on the farm until September of 1993, when she entered the Pocahontas Manor.

Bea was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Pocahontas, and a local writers club. She enjoyed writing poetry, was an avid doll collector and was her family's genealogist.

Survivors include her niece: Janet (Gerald) McFadzen Fain of Mt. Pleasant; nephew: James (Elisabeth) McFadzen of New York Mills, MN and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents, husband,Glen, brothers, James McFadzen and Charles McFadzen and sister, Mary McFadzen.

She was buried in August 1998 at Powhatan Cemetery, Plover, Pocahontas Co., IA, Findagrave #33600013.

     Harry McFadzen was born on 8 July 1872 at Motherwell, Perthshire, Ontario, Canada. He married Janet Henderson on 12 March 1902 at Plover, Pocahontas Co., IA. NAPLES, FLA. – “You Smile and the Angels Sing.”

Charles McFall, 84, took up residence in God’s Kingdom on Wednesday, March 5, 2003, after an extended illness. He had been residing in Naples, Florida, since May of 2001, having moved from Bloomington to Fort Wayne in 1992.

Charles was born April 8, 1918, in Southern Indiana, the son of John and Iva McFall. Having survived rheumatic fever as a teenager, he graduated from DePauw University, with a major in chemistry and minor in math, and the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He served in the Navy in World War II at which time he met and married his wife, Verna McKinney. Following the war, Charles and Verna moved to Bloomington where he established his dental practice. He practiced dentistry for 20 years here, retiring in 1970, after which he began his second career with the Monroe County Health Department.

Charles and Verna had three children: Melvin (Elizabeth) of Houston, Texas, Patricia Beal (Michael) of Naples, Florida, and Steve, who passed away in 1969. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Stephenson; his by (sic) nephews, David Stephenson, John Stephenson, Robert Stephenson; and his niece, Mary Stephenson Tarr.

Verna passed away in 1992 after a long battle with Lupus. While she was ill, Charles tended her constantly, installing several devices of his own invention around the house to make her care easier for both of them.

Charles was an avid boater in his younger days, often sailing with his brother, Rev. Merrill B. McFall. He later became an accomplished bowler and golfer. He was very proud of his two holes-in-one. He enjoyed playing the clarinet and was also possibly the best whistler in the work, although that was never documented.

Those who knew him will always remember his dry wit, his meticulous precision in his dental practice, his gentle and easy-going nature, how proud he was of his family and the kindness he showed everyone around him.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date, at which time Mel and Patty hope to hear great stories from all his friends.

As a son of a Methodist pastor in Indiana, the family moved several times through the state, but it was in Bloomington, IN where David attended high school and met his wife, Patricia L. Marlin. They were wed on October 5, 1951 by Rev. McFall at the 1st United Methodist Church in Bloomington. David’s career was centered on serving others. He was a lay pastor, serving in several pulpits throughout his life; served in the National Guard, served 11 years on the staff of Indiana Congressman Lee H. Hamilton; was an executive with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana; and served as President of Wesley Manor Retirement Home in Frankfort, IN. His three passions throughout his career were serving the church, photography, and the use of puns. He served in multiple leadership and committee roles within his community, his local church, and with the Methodist Church’s district and conference. Hi photography achievements span from weddings, portraits, nature, sports, and travel. And when family was together, the use of clever puns was always a part of the conversation. David & Patty’s retirement years were spent in Indiana, Florida, and Arizona. David is survived by Patty and their five children: Valerie K. (Dennis) Stutler of Batesville, IN; David Marc (Karen) of Cicero, IN; Robert N. (Kim) of Anthem, AZ; M. Keith (Becky) of Indianapolis, IN, and Cristopher M. (Lori) of Greenwood, IN. David and Patty have 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 15th at 2:00 pm at Lakeview Methodist Church in Sun City, AZ. Indiana pastor dies suddenly

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – The Rev. Merrill B. McFall, 69, former pastor of United Methodist churches in Bloomington, Indianapolis, Columbus, and Crown Point, died of a heart attack Wednesday.

He was vacationing at the family cottage at Silver Lake, Mich.

Dr. McFall retired in 1972 after 40 years as a minister and leader in the Methodist church. The last 18 years he was senior minister of First United Methodist Church here.

A 1927 graduate of DePauw University, he was a former DePauw trustee. He was minister at Irvington United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, First United Methodist Church, Columbus, and First United Methodist Church, Crown Point.

Services are being arranged at Day Funeral Home here.

Survivors include the widow, Mary Beth, and four sons, Charles, David, John and Richard.

Mildred May Stephenson, 95, of Port Orchard died Thursday at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.

Born in Paoli, Ind., to John and Iva (Payne) McFall, she graduated from high school in Indiana and earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

On September 7, 1933, she married Seymour Town Stephenson in Indiana.

Mrs. Stephenson was a homemaker who served as the organist for Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman for 44 years. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist, PEO sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Mu Phi Epsilon and the American Guild of Organists.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1965.

Surviving are three sons, David Stephenson and his wife Janet of Ames, Iowa, John Stephenson and his wife, Barbara of Poulsbo, and Robert Stephenson and his wife, Margaret, of Williamston, Mich; a daughter Mary Tarr and her husband, Steve, of Pullman; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. April 30 at Simpson United Methodist Church with inurnment at the Pullman Cemetery.

     Steve Alan McFall was born on 26 October 1951 at Indiana. He was the son of Charles Jordan McFall DDS and Verna May McKinney. Steve Alan McFall died on 8 July 1969 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN, at age 17. Cause of death: Cerebral edema caused by cardio-respiratory arrest during surgery for enterovesical fistula. He was cremated in 1969 at Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN.

Mr. McFall died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995 at Columbus Regional Hospital after being injured in a traffic accident.

Born Feb. 26, 1970, in Columbus, he was the son of Jonathan McFall of Columbus and Brenda Harris Martin of Grammer. He married Julie Walls Sept. 22, 1989, in Columbus. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Chelsie and Tommy McFall, both at home; his stepfather, Roy Martin of Grammer; his step-mother, Linda McFall of Columbus; a sister, Sandra McFall of Columbus; a stepsister, Jennifer Martin of Grammer, stepbrothers, Curtis Martin of Grammer, Daniel Eddy Jr. And James Eddy, both of Columbus; a half sister, Kim Mahlen (sic) of Kingsport, Tenn; and half brothers, Mike McFall of Dublin, Ohio, and Gary McFall of Danville, Ill.
