     Katherine Doris McLean was born on 7 March 1904 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC. She was the daughter of Marshall Rankin McLean and Rachel Sophia DeVault. Katherine Doris McLean married Prof. William Brown Terrell, son of Bedford Terrell and Jennie Scott, on 13 July 1925 at Guilford Co., NC. Katherine Doris McLean died on 26 February 1940 at Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC, at age 35 OBITUARY:
One of the largest crowds that ever gathered at Friedens Lutheran Church, near Gibsonville, was present this afternoon for the last rites held for Mrs. Doris McLean Terrell, wife of Prof. W. B. Terrell, of Elon College. She had been teaching school for 13 years and had taught in Elon College for the past six years. She was active in religious activities here and had for may years taught a Sunday school class. She was an active member of the woman's missionary society of the Conregational Christian Church and a member of the Friedens Lutheran church. The service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. John L. Morgan, and he was assisted by Dr. G. O. Lankford, of Elon College, who had performed the wedding ceremony of Prof. and Mrs. Terrell-and Dr. L.E. Smith, of Elon College."

She was buried in 1940 at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.
Note: Katherine took flying lessons from her brothers. She graduated from Elon College in 1925. Katherine married a classmate, William Brown Terrell, that same year and started her teaching career. She taught Home Economics at the Tryon High School in Gaston County for two years. Katherine later moved to Rock Springs School, Denver, North Carolina. She was a member of the Elon College elementary school faculty for ten years as a seventh grade teacher.

     Marcia S. McLean was born in November 1818 at Tennessee. She was the daughter of Charles P. McLean and Marcia Foster Searcy. Marcia S. McLean married William Winston on 24 July 1836 at Shelby Co., TN.

     Maria L. McLean was born circa 1817 at Tennessee.¹ She was the daughter of Charles P. McLean and Marcia Foster Searcy. Maria L. McLean married Joseph H. Mosby, son of Samuel Mosby and Mary Anderson, on 30 November 1835 at Shelby Co., TN. Maria L. McLean lived on 18 September 1850 at Shelby Co., TN.² She lived on 30 August 1860 at Shelby Co., TN.³ She lived on 24 June 1870 at Searcy Twp., Cross Co., AR.¹ She died on 6 October 1878.

     Marshall Edwin McLean was born on 20 March 1901 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC. He was the son of Marshall Rankin McLean and Rachel Sophia DeVault. Marshall Edwin McLean married Mabel Fern Crutchfield, daughter of Joseph Everett Crutchfield and Mary Elizabeth Paris, on 2 August 1925 at Johnston Co., NC. Marshall Edwin McLean died on 29 July 1979 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC, at age 78. He was buried in August 1979 at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance Co., NC.
Note: Marshall was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II, He supervised the construction of a saw mill at Manteo for timber used to build hangers there. Marshall was the owner and operator of McLean Brothers Flying Service. He was a veteran of the Marines.

     Marshall Rankin McLean was born on 13 May 1861 at McCleansville, Guilford Co., NC. He was the son of James McLean and Isabelle Catherine DeVault. Marshall Rankin McLean married Rachel Sophia DeVault, daughter of Jacob A. DeVault and Mary Ann Alexander, on 18 September 1890. Marshall Rankin McLean died on 26 November 1933 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC, at age 72. He was buried in November 1933 at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.
Note: Marshall Rankin McLean married Rachel Sophia DeVault. His mother was also a DeVault, Isabel Catherine "Ibby, Catherine or Katie" DeVault. Isabel Catherine is shown in the 1850 Census for Guilford County, North Carolina living with her parents under the name Isabel C. Duvolt. Her parents were Gideon DeVault (born 1810 in North Carolina) and Elizabeth Gerringer). Gideon's parents were Valentine DeVault (born 1769 in North Carolina) and Anna Barbara May. Although an interesting coincidence, Marshall's mother is not a descendent of Henry Dewald of Pennsylvania.


Marshall was a charter member of the Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibsonville. On November 11, 1894, he was appointed as one of the first deacons. According to his granddaughter, Betty (McLean) Moore, Marshall switched his membership from Friedens Lutheran Church to Sharon so there would be enough members to form a church. Sharon Lutheran was completed in December 1897.

     Mary Elizabeth McLean was born in 1866. She married Samuel Richardson Shives. Mary Elizabeth McLean died in 1949. She was buried in 1949 at Gosport Cemetery, Gosport, Marion Co., IA, Find A Grave Memorial# 102251538.

     Natalie M. McLean was born on 22 May 1939 at Milledgeville, Fayette Co., OH. She was the daughter of Gene R. McLean and Marjorie McCoy. Natalie M. McLean died on 4 April 2014 at Washington Court House, Fayette Co., OH, at age 74. She was buried in April 2014 at Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery, Milledgeville, Fayette Co., OH, Findagrave #132045811.

     Ray M. McLean was born in September 1895 at Adel Twp., Dallas Co. (probably), IA.¹ He was the son of Grant McLean and Sadie Miller.¹

     Robert Arthur McLean was born on 25 August 1900. He was the son of Marshall Rankin McLean and Rachel Sophia DeVault. Robert Arthur McLean died on 21 October 1908 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC, at age 8. He was buried in October 1908 at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC.

     Ruth Naomi McLean was born on 22 March 1898. She married Lt. Harold Pinneo Smyth, son of David Brier Smyth and Mary Pinneo, on 1 October 1914. Ruth Naomi McLean married Thomas McLean. Ruth Naomi McLean died on 15 October 1978 at Seattle, King Co., WA, at age 80. She was buried in October 1978 at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park, Seattle, King Co., WA, Find A Grave Memorial# 141054646.

     Sybil McLean was born on 18 May 1898 at Gibsonville, Guilford Co., NC. She was the daughter of Marshall Rankin McLean and Rachel Sophia DeVault. Sybil McLean married Olin Barclay Belk, son of Samuel Ellison Belk and Mary Jane Horne, on 15 June 1916. Sybil McLean died on 12 October 1980 at Gastonia, Gaston Co., NC, at age 82.

     Thomas McLean married Ruth Naomi McLean. Thomas McLean died before 2014.

     William Elwood McLean was also known as "Buck". He was born on 16 May 1906 at Guilford Co., NC. He was the son of Marshall Rankin McLean and Rachel Sophia DeVault. William Elwood McLean married Thesta Violet Hite, daughter of Enoch Hite and Anna Roof, on 1 January 1937. William McLean, 78, ex-aviation director
William E, "Buck" McLean, a onetime barnstorming aviator who guided the development of the Orlando International Airport as the city's aviation director for more than a decade, died Monday at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He was 78.
"He was the pioneer in aviation for the city," said longtime friend Fred Turner. "He will probably be remembered as having had the vision and foresight for what the McCoy Airport could be."
When he became aviation director in the mid-1950s, the city's main airport was Orlando Executive, then called Herndon Airport.
"He was an aviation professional from the old school," said Wally Sanderlin, a former city council member who served on the city's aviation advisory board.
"He started out barnstorming and probably was the foremost aviation expert in Orlando during his time. The transition from Herndon to McCoy airfield was due to his leadership."
McLean retired in the late 1960s and moved to Crystal River, where he lived until 1980 when he moved to Oklawaha.
He was admitted to Orlando Regional Medical Center in late April.
Born in Guilford County, N.C., McLean was a Lutheran and a member of several organizations, including Composite Lodge 293 F&AM, the Orlando Scottish Rite Bodies, the Orlando York Rite Bodies, the Bahia Shrine Temple and the National Sojourners. He also belonged to the Heros of '76, the Quiet Birdman, the Three Coast Club and the Society of American Military Engineers.
His wife, Thesta, died in 1954.
Survivors include sons, Dick H., Oklahawa, David M., Windermere, James E. Tuscaloosa, Ala., Bill E., Austin, Texas; daughter, Sophie Ann Norman, Charleston, S.C; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

     Sarah Elizabeth McLees was born on 6 April 1856 at Blue Rock, Muskingum Co., OH.¹ She was the daughter of Thomas McLees and Elizabeth Starrett.¹ Sarah Elizabeth McLees married Llewellyn Clapper, son of George Harrison Clapper and Olive M. Coleman, in 1877. Sarah Elizabeth McLees died on 1 March 1893 at Blue Rock, Muskingum Co., OH, at age 36.      Thomas McLees was born on 12 November 1823 at Ohio.¹ He married Elizabeth Starrett in 1844. Thomas McLees began military service on 2 May 1864 at Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH, Civil War service, Co. I, 160th Regt., Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He died on 26 October 1906 at age 82

Mr. McLees has been known as an outspoken anti-slavery man, and served in the Morgan raid five days under Capt. N. F. Claypool. He was mustered out, received his pay, and entered the O. N. G., Ninety-First Battalion. On May 2, 1864, he and his two sons reported at Zanesville, Ohio. He and the eldest son, Josiah were mustered into the service of the United States army, in Company I, One Hundred and Sixtieth Regiment, Capt. Henry S. Finley, under Gen. Franz Seigel. This regiment was placed in the First Brigade First Division of Gen. Hunter's army of West Virginia. On the night of July 3, 1864, they retreated from Martinsburg, W. Va., marched through the Potomac river and lay on the banks of the canal in wet clothes. On July 6 they went on to Maryland Heights at 11 o'clock p.m., Gen. Early in his raid following, and the fight began July 5. On July 7, 1864, Josiah McLees was in line of battle between Sharpsburg road and the Potomac river, and at 10 a.m. was mortally wounded, dying July 20. On September 7, 1864, Thomas McLees was mustered out of service.

     Eleanor Weems McLellan was born on 8 April 1907 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA.¹ She was the daughter of James Guy McLellan and Elizabeth McAfee DeVault. Eleanor Weems McLellan died on 17 April 1994 at age 87.

     Elizabeth Marie McLellan was born on 16 June 1932 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA. She was the daughter of John McAfee McLellan and Frances Marie Harris. Elizabeth Marie McLellan married Albert Munn Carter, son of Harlan Brown Carter and Rowena Maud Munn, on 13 June 1953. Elizabeth Marie McLellan died on 24 January 2004 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA, at age 71.

     Fannie McLellan was born on 23 May 1909 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA.¹ She was the daughter of James Guy McLellan and Elizabeth McAfee DeVault. Fannie McLellan died on 3 February 1986 at Whitfield Co., GA, at age 76 Dates per SSDI, last residence Dalton.

     James Guy McLellan was born on 27 July 1872 at Durant, Holmes Co., MS.¹ He was the son of John Washington McLellan and Jane Eleanor Weems. James Guy McLellan married Elizabeth McAfee DeVault, daughter of William Valentine DeVault and Elizabeth M. McAfee, in 1897. James Guy McLellan lived on 1 June 1900 at West Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA, School teacher.¹ He died on 4 January 1933 at age 60.

     John McAfee McLellan was born on 1 July 1898 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA.¹ He was the son of James Guy McLellan and Elizabeth McAfee DeVault.¹ John McAfee McLellan married Frances Marie Harris, daughter of William Ross Harris and Marie Lucille Withers, in 1927 at Washington, District of Columbia. John McAfee McLellan died on 30 November 1977 at Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA, at age 79.

     John McAfee McLellan Jr. was born on 2 February 1928 at Georgia. He was the son of John McAfee McLellan and Frances Marie Harris. John McAfee McLellan Jr. died on 1 November 1994 at Leeds, Jefferson Co., AL, at age 66.

     John Washington McLellan was born on 9 May 1840 at Holmes Co., MS. He married Jane Eleanor Weems. John Washington McLellan died on 6 May 1926 at Durant, Holmes Co., MS, at age 85.

     Lula McLemore was born on 14 March 1881 at Flint Dist., Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (now OK).¹ She married Levi Springwater.¹ Lula McLemore and Levi Springwater were divorced before 21 May 1910. Lula McLemore died on 23 March 1947 at Stilwell, Adair Co., OK, at age 66.

     Wharton Stewart McLemore was born in 1912 at Tennessee.¹ He was the son of William Wharton McLemore and Ophelia Palmer Burrus. Wharton Stewart McLemore died in 1936. He was buried in 1936 at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown, Memphis, Shelby Co., TN, Findagrave #106898761.
