Mrs. Belle Bingham Dead

Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Bingham, were conducted from the North Loup M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon May 31, Mrs. Bingham having passed away May 27, 1932, in North Loup at 2 p.m. Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ward Gowen. She had been an invalid for the past two years and confined to a wheel chair most of that time. At 8:30 a.m. Friday, she was smitten with a severe stroke of paralysis and became unconscious, living only a few hours.

Mary Arabelle Banta, daughter of Smith and Mary Jane London Banta, was born in Marion County, Ia, June 23, 1860, and was married there to Joseph Bingham on August 2, 1877. Five children were born to them, three of whom came with the parents to Valley County in 1908, settling in Riverdale. Mr. Bingham passed away on June 12, 1920, after which the family lived in Rosevale neighborhood, Garfield County, for four years, then moving back near North Loup. Mrs. Bingham also spent a year in Florida with the Ward Gowen family. Children who survive their mother are Charles, of Kingsburg, Calif., Earl and Mrs. Veda Gowen, of North Loup. Mrs. Bingham was a woman of fine christian character and a most pleasing personality.

She leaves to mourn her loss besides the three children, six grandchildren, James Kimbrel, Franklin, Rex, and Maxine Bingham and Forest Gowen, of North Loup, Nebr., also Roy Bingham of Kingsburg, Calif., and one great grandchild, little Vier Kimbrel and numerous relatives and a host of friends. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Smith of Purdy, Ia., Mrs. Nora McCoy, Mrs. C. L. Zin of Melcher, Ia., and three brothers, John Q. Adams, Macksburg, W. A. Adams, of New Virginia, Alfred A. Adams, of Purdy, all of Iowa. She was converted and joined the Methodist Church at Gosport, Iowa, in early life and lived a fine christian life until God called her home.

Rev. G.A. Schwabauer had charge of the funeral and music was furnished by a mixed quartet. Pall bearers were relatives. Interment was in the family lot in Scotia Cemetery.

     Merlyn N. Banta was born on 20 February 1920 at Greeley Co., NE. He was the son of Theodore V. Banta and Mary Rebecca Wendel. Merlyn N. Banta married Verbia Nadine Russow, daughter of George Franklin Russow and Florence Belle Hosman, on 20 September 1947 at McDonald Co., MO. Merlyn N. Banta died on 16 October 1995 at Commerce, Ottawa Co., OK, at age 75. He was buried in October 1995 at Miami, Ottawa Co., OK.

     Newton Seigle Banta was born on 16 August 1862 at Marion Co., IA.¹ He was the son of Smith Banta and Mary Jane London. Newton Seigle Banta married Mary Ollie Foster on 11 January 1883 at Marion Co., IA. Newton Seigle Banta died on 23 December 1931 at North Loup, Valley Co., NE, at age 69.

     Smith Banta was born in 1841 at Switzerland Co., IN. He married Mary Jane London on 25 September 1859 at Marion Co., IA. Smith Banta died on 30 August 1864 at Saline River, Grant Co., AR.

     Thelma June Banta was born on 3 July 1917 at Greeley Co., NE.¹ She was the daughter of Theodore V. Banta and Mary Rebecca Wendel.¹ Thelma June Banta married Clarence Edward Killion, son of Charles Edward Killion and Rosa Mae Mitchell, on 16 March 1938 at Benton Co., AR. Thelma June Banta died on 20 March 2004 at Gravette, Benton Co., AR, at age 86.

     Theodore V. Banta was born on 7 February 1886 at Poweshiek Co., IA.¹ He was the son of Newton Seigle Banta and Mary Ollie Foster.² Theodore V. Banta married Mary Rebecca Wendel, daughter of Cyrus Edwin Wendel and Josephine Victoria London. Theodore V. Banta died in 1958 at Arkansas.
