GLENROCK MAN KILLED BY CONCERETE SLAB

Theodore "Ted" R. Munsinger, 51, was killed instantly Tuesday afternoon at Glenrock while working at the Phillips Petroleum Well No. 1, about one block from the business section. Mr. Munsinger, who was head of the Munsinger Ditching Co., was crushed to death when a slab of concrete fell on him. His wife and two sons were at the scene when the accident occurred. The fatality happened during operations to abandon the well.

Ted was the son of Guy and Bell Munsinger. He attended school at Thermopolis, Wyoming and for a number of years was engaged as a driller in the oil fields. For the past ten years he headed the firm of T. R. Munsinger and Sons, ditching and drilling contractors. Mr. Munsinger was married to Miss Irene Sterling and to this union five children were born, four of whom survive. In addition to Mrs. Munsinger, survivors include three sons, John C. Munsinger and Floyd W. Munsinger, all of Glenrock; one daughter, Mrs. Leonard Burch of Laramie; his father, Guy Munsinger of Glenrock; two sisters, Mrs. Clare (Minnie) McElhinny of Casper and Mrs. Effie McArthur of California; two brothers, William Munsinger of California and Edward Munsinger of Montana; and five grandchildren. One son, Leonard, died in infancy.

He was buried in December 1954 at Glenrock Cemetery, Glenrock, Converse Co., WY, Findagrave #88681601.

POWELL, Wyo. -- Mass for Theodore William Munsinger, 41, killed while working on a power line Tuesday in Powell, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Barbara Catholic Church.

A city employe, Mr. Munsinger was a retired Air Force man who came to Powell four years ago. He had been in the service 21 years.

The Rev. D. B. Carroll will be celebrant. The rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, weith Easton's Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Munsinger was bron March 14, 1932, in Bridger, Mont., a son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Munsinger. He married Joyce E. Taylor on Dec. 22, 1952 in Reno, Nev.

He had joined the Air Force after graduation in 1939 (sic) at a Prescott, Ariz., high school. He had been a member of the St. Barbara Catholic Parish and the Powell Elks Lodge.

Survivors include the widow and nine children, John, Stephen, Carol, Suzanne, Deborah, Richard, Catherine, Michelle and Christine, at home; his mother, Mrs. Adelia Hall and stepfather, Leonard Hall, of Powell; and a sister, Mrs. Shirley L. Kalember of Phoeniz, Ariz.

Mrs. Ann Wolf, age 53 of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in the East Texas Medical Center-Tyler. Mrs. Wolf was born October 16, 1956 in Crockett, Texas and had lived in Elkhart for the past seven months, previously living in Palestine. She had worked as a medication aide and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Velma M. VanOyen, 97, Cottonwood

Velma M. VanOyen of Cottonwood went to meet her Savior on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. She died peacefully in her sleep at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Velma was born June 13, 1911, At Bartlett, Neb., the daughter of Rollo and Cora Munsinger.

She married Alpha VanOyen Oct. 27, 1928, in Fullerton, Neb., and was married 62 years when Alpha passed away in 1990. They moved to Oregon and Idaho in the late 1930s and took up ranching. Velma worked for several years at the Shore Lodge in McCall before retiring. They moved to Cottonwood in 1989.

Velma is survived by three daughters and one son, Darlene Halbert and husband Merlin, and Shirley Smith, all of Cottonwood, Marion Whipple of Yakima, and Delwin VanOyen and wife Gloria of Kooskia; one brother, Kenneth Munsinger and wife Sally of Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Delores VanOyen and Twila Glenn; one grandson, Timothy Halbert; two brothers; and three sisters.

Velma was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very gentle, kind and loving person, who will be greatly missed by all that cared for her.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Uhlorn Funeral Home in Cottonwood. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Ambulance Fund.

He was born on 23 June 1921 at North Platte, Lincoln Co., NE, WW II draft registration. He was the son of Joseph Merrill Munsinger and Leone Harriet Heikes. Warren Heikes Munsinger began military service on 28 August 1942 WW II service, U.S. Army Air Corps, enlisted. 1252nd AAF Base Unit. Flight engineer/top turret gunner in heavy bombers, flying missions from bases North Africa and Italy. Discharged 29 NOV 1945.

He married Fern Elizabeth Peterson in January 1943 at Kansas, courthouse/J.P. marriage. No children to this marriage -- Fern later remarried but had no children of her own.

Warren Heikes Munsinger married Ellen Margaret McKim, daughter of Ralph Edmonds McKim and Ella Smith, in December 1943 at Georgia, This bigamous marriage, performed in Georgia by a Justice of the Peace, was not legal -- Warren was still married to Fern Peterson at the time. Ellen drew military allotment checks on Warren's service, which was discovered. His parents sold a land parcel in 1947 to raise the money to repay the wrongful allotments.

Warren Heikes Munsinger and Fern Elizabeth Peterson were divorced in January 1945 at Iowa. Warren Heikes Munsinger was graduated in 1948; Spartan School of Aeronautics, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married Betty Aileen Plumb on 24 October 1948 at Wesley Chapel, Hastings, Mills Co., IA, Betty was first married to Joseph C. Edmondson in 1943. After the divorce from Warren she remarried to Joe Robinson in 1955, Harris County, TX, and later to Frederick Sprague. She had no children of her own.

Married Sunday at Wesley Chapel

On Sunday Betty Plumb Edmondson and Warren H. Munsinger were united in marriage at the Wesley Chapel church near Hastings. Mrs. Edmondson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Plumb of Hastings and Mr. Munsinger is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Munsinger of Tabor.

The Rev. R. V. Felt of Red Oak, a former Wesley Chapel minister, performed the double ring ceremony at 2:30 o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Dayre Williams of Indianola, brother-in-law and sister of the groom, attended the couple. Mrs. Warren Darrah of Tabor was the soloist, accompanied by Mr. Darrah.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a beige gabardine suit with dark green accessories and carried a bouquet of yellow and bronze chrysanthemums, centered with green orchids. Other autumn shades of fall flowers were used in the corsages and decorations.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's home for the guests, immediate relatives of the couple. Assisting were Miss Doris Phifer and Mrs. Sidney Bolton of Omaha, cousins of the bride.

Mrs. Munsinger is a graduate in home economics of Iowa State college. She had been employed as assistant director of the Dairy Council of Omaha for the past three years.

Mr. Munsinger attended Omaha university following his discharge from the army air corps. He is a recent graduate of Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla.

The couple left immediately, following the reception, for a short trip through the south. They will reside in Houston, Tex., where Mr. Munsinger is employed by the Trans Texas Airways.

Warren Heikes Munsinger married Freeda Marie Logan on 10 June 1955 at Covington, VA, Ceremony by Rev. Raymond E. Oliver. Divorce record not found. Freeda remarried to Randall Linney in May, 1961 at Oklahoma City.

Warren Heikes Munsinger married Charlotte Nancy Laster in December 1958 at Alabama, Warren was the second of Charlotte's four husbands. She had no children of her own. Warren Heikes Munsinger and Charlotte Nancy Laster were divorced in December 1959.

Warren Heikes Munsinger died on 30 January 1960 at Illinois at age 38 He was killed on a rural highway northeast of Springfield, Illinois, shortly after midnight on 30 Jan 1960. While towing a race car on his way to a race at Daytona, Florida, he did not see a mud-covered fuel oil tanker stopped at a crossbuck railroad crossing in time, and drove into it. He died soon after.

Warren Munsinger, 38, of Tabor, Ia. was killed Saturday when he drove an auto into the rear of a fuel oil transport truck which had halted at a railroad crossing on Route 36 about 14 miles east of Springfield, Ill.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Reeves Dow Funeral Home in Tabor.
