In the fall of 1999, Arnold moved to the West Village Care Center in Independence, where his death came Tuesday, February 06, 2001, at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois, in 1996, his daughter-in-law, Sherry, also in 1996, two brothers, Faye and Jim and one sister, Marie Cantonwine Cue. Tipton -- A suit for divorce was filed in the district court here Friday by Kathryn Moubry of Durant against Faye Moubry. The petition recites that the couple were married in Cedar Rapids Oct. 8, 1927, and that they lived together until last December. The plaintiff charges her husband with cruel and inhuman treatment and alleges that he is an habitual drunkard. On July 20 of this year, she says, her husband took their 3-year-old daughter and refuses to return her. She seeks the custody of the child and alimony.

Miss Leota Rogers of Novelty and Faye Moubry of Vinton, la., were married in Memphis at 9 o’clock last Thursday morning by the Rev H. V. McColloch, pastor of the Memphis Presbyterian Church.

The bride was attired in a dress of powder blue lace and the bridegroom wore a grey suit.

Mrs. Moubry is the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Rogers of southwest of Novelty. She attended and graduated from Novelty High School and also attended Kirksville Teachers College. She has taught her home school, Mote, southwest of Novelty the last four years and has been re-employed for her fifth term next year.

Mr. Moubry is superintendent for the Concrete Materials Co. of Cedar Rapids, la., and is now supervising construction on Highway No. 21 west of Vinton. He and his bride will make their home in Vinton for the present.

An armorer-gunner, Moubry flew over central Europe, in numbing cold 30 to 50 degrees below zero, more than four miles up, he and his comrades often fighting their way through determined enemy fighter attacks. E.B. “Al” Moubry, 81, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2004 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born on Sept. 11, 1922 in Shellsburg, Iowa to James C. and Dora M. Moubry.

Upon completion of high school and two years of college, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. He flew with the 460th Bomber group, 15th Air Force and was stationed in Spinazzola, Italy from 1944-1945. He obtained the rank of S/Sgt., flew on the B24 Liberators as a ball-turret gunner. He served in the Mediterranean and the European Theaters with over 40 sorties to his credit.

Upon his honorable discharge, he began to work in the excavation and road construction field. He was a sales representative for over 20 years for a large heavy duty equipment company in the New England area. Upon his retirement he moved back to the Booneville area to be close to family and friends. He attended First United Methodist Church in Booneville.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Roberts Memorial Chapel with burial in Glendale Cemetery near Booneville, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Glenda S. Moubry of the home; two sons, Grant Moubry of Carlisle, Penn. and Steve Moubry of Bedford, Texas; one daughter, Patricia Anderson of McLean, Va; one stepson, Phil Hicks of Greenwood; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gary was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Lois Abernathy Moubry. He was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School in Vinton. On April 9, 1960, Gary was united in marriage with Karen K. Powers at First Christian Church in Vinton.

Gary delivered ice cream for Sanitary Dairy in Cedar Rapids before becoming a heavy equipment operator for B.L. Anderson, Vulcan and Wendling Quarries. He retired from Wendling Quarries in 2000.

Gary was a very active member of First Christian Church in Vinton. He sang in the choir, was chairman of the board of trustees; was a member of the Diaconate, delivered Christmas plates, acted as a greeter and belonged to POWWOW, the Wednesday night Bible study group, for 12 years.

Gary loved fishing, hunting, camping and gardening, plus canning and freezing his garden harvests. His greatest joy in life was spending time with and helping his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Hazel and George Powers; and brother-in-law, Howard Gilbert.

Cliff Moubry, 72, Dies in Texas

Funeral services were held for Cliff Moubry, 72, of Shellsburg, Thursday afternoon at the Palo Methodist church. The Rev. B. A. Weldlandt officiated at the services. Mr. Moubry, a former resident of the Urbana community, died of a heart attack Sunday morning in McAllen, Texas, where he and his wife had gone to spend the winter.

Mr. Moubry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Moubry, was born Sept. 17, 1885, near Shellsburg. He married Dora Johnson on April 7, 1904.

He is survived by his wife and five children: Mrs. Leland "Marie" Cantonwine of Shellsburg; Faye Moubry of Novelty, Mo; James of Palo; Arnold of Vinton, and Elzo of Tulsa, Okla. Fourteen grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.

Internment was in the Palo cemetery with the Fry and Holland Funeral home of Vinton in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moubry is the son of the late Steve Moubrys and his wife is the former Dora Johnson, daughter of the R. E. Johnsons, all of Shellsburg.

They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Leland Cantonwine and Arnold Moubry of Vinton, James Moubry of Palo, Faye Moubry of Novelty, Mo., and Ezro Moubry, who is stationed at Ramsey air base in Puerto Rico. There are 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

     Joan Fae Moubry was also known as Joan Fae Carpenter In most records, Joan used her step-father's surname as her maiden name. In the 1950 Census, Joan was listed as a Carpenter, but said that she was divorced. She was born on 21 March 1927 at Central City, Linn Co., IA; Joan appears to have had two birth certificates, one created at the time of her birth, which named her Joan Fae Moubry, and a second, "delayed birth certificate", created in 1942 and signed by her uncle, Donald V. Peterson, which also named her Joan Fae Moubry. In most records, Joan used her step-father's surname as her maiden name.

She was the daughter of Charles Faye Moubry and Frances Christina Peterson. Joan Fae Moubry lived on 9 May 1940 at Kennewick, Benton Co., WA, with her mother and step-father.¹ She lived on 10 April 1950 at 132B South Chestnut, Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co., WA, age 23, divorced, telephone operator.² She married Virgil Joyhue Brown on 19 August 1951 at Coos Bay, Coos Co., OR; ceremony by Oscar W. Payne. Joan had a prior marriage to an unknow husband -- on the 1950 census she was listed as divorced.

Joan Fae Moubry and Virgil Joyhue Brown were divorced before 16 August 1958. Joan Fae Moubry lived in 1978 at Olympia, Thurston Co., WA. Sharla Marie Heath, 84, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness.

Sharla was born March 24, 1927 in Center Point, the daughter of James Arthur and Agnes Ruth (Comried) Moubry. She married Marvin "Bud" Heath on April 7, 1949 in Cedar Rapids.

Sharla graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Nurse Cadet Corps. After the war she worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Galveston. Following her stay in Texas she moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at Mercy Hospital, Methwick, and retired from St. Luke's Hospital.

Sharla was a childcare volunteer at Harrison and St. James and a Girl Scout Leader. Gardening was a great passion of hers, as well as reading and travelling with her husband. Sharla enjoyed feeding and watching birds in her back yard. Above all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.

She was buried in December 2011 at Palo Cemetery, Palo, Linn Co., IA, Findagrave #82058084.

Knowles Divorce Decree Is Signed

A final decree has been signed in district court granting Shirley Jean Knowles a divorce from Gordon Nummer Knowles on the grounds of cruelty.

She was awarded all of the household effects, except for a television set, which, along with a 1940 automobile, was awarded to Knowles. He was ordered to settle an account owed by the couple at a clinic.

Another provision of the decree was that she return a diamond ring given her at the time of their engagement.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Shirley Jean Spengler, age 83, of Walcott, IA, formerly of Sunbury, IA died on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, IA. Private family inurnment will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton, IA.

Shirley was born May 15, 1930 in Alburnet. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1947. Shirley married Wilbert "Bill" E. Spengler on March 26, 1955 in Muscatine, IA. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2010.

Shirley was a secretary at various businesses and retired from Micro-Surface, Wilton, IA.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Lynn and her husband Mark Snyder and their son Joshua of West Branch, IA, her sons: Brett Spengler of Durant, IA and Scott "Boze" and his wife Deb Spengler and their children Kiley and Kale Spengler of Durant, IA and her half brother Charles and his wife Jan Moubry of Liberty, MO.

Muscatine Girl, 21, Is Fatally Injured

MUSCATINE AP -- Miss Janice Egel, 21, died in a hospital here early Wednesday of injuries received in an auto accident at Wilton Junction Tuesday night.

She was a passenger in a car driven by Shirley Knowles, about 23, of Wilton Junction, who was injured seriously.

Highway patrolmen said the Knowles car drove onto Highway 6 into the path of a car driven by Ralph Seibel of Durant. Seibel's car struck the rear of the Knowles car, knocking it over a curb into a tree, patrolmen said.

"Conrad, son of Conrad and Anna Mary (Hare) Maul [sic], was born in 1813, at Moulstown , York County. he received his education in the subscription schools and in his youth learned the cooper's trade. In 1842 he purchased a small property near Hanover? ? and began the manufacture of water-tight barrels, but soon abandoned it and turned his attention to the manufacture of grain drills, reapers and mowers. In 1851 he introduced the Hussey reaper into Pennsylvania, and for twenty years thereafter was prominently and actively engaged in the manufacture of reapers and mowers and making many valuable improvements in this important class of machinery. In 1878 he added a planing mill to the machine shop, and organized the firm of C. Moul and Company. Mr. Moul married Susan, born in 1817, near Mt. Carmel Church, daughter of John and Nancy (Stauffer) Bollinger, the former born at Bollinger's Mill (now Dubb's Mill), Heidelberg Township., and the latter a native of Lancaster County.? ? Robert Martin DeVault, son of Frederick William DeVault and Laura Adelaide Martin, on 22 October 1914 at the home of the bride, Fall Branch, Washington Co., TN, ceremony by Dr. J. J. Burnett, President of Carson-Newman College. Bess Telete Moulten died on 15 January 1987 at age 96.      Edward Pierce Moulton was born on 27 August 1871 at Kansas. He married Zada Belle Burkett, daughter of Joseph Burkett and Nancy Ellen Pollen, in 1898 at Anaconda, Deer Lodge, MT.
