Jane passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at Horizon House where she had been a resident for 14 years. She and husband Charles (Kip) lived there together for 7 years. After his passing, she moved to supported living.

Jane was an excellent and prolific painter, a member of Women of Washington Painters, and a docent at the Seattle Art Museum for many years. She and Kip were able to travel frequently, visiting much of the world.

She is survived by a daughter, a son, grandchildren and a great grandson

JANET NORENE DALRYMPLE Janet passed away peacefully on March 20, 2014 at her home. She was born to John D. Munsinger and Marjorie F. Crosby on Feb. 5, 1932 in Spaulding, Nebraska. Her father moved her to California at a very young age where he was remarried to Elsie and they settled near Los Molinos, Ca. where her father raised cattle and other crops. Janet attended Los Molinos High School and then CSU Chico where she earned her teaching credential. While at Chico State, she met and married Melvin "Bush" Dalrymple on April 28, 1951. They both became lifelong educators in Chico where they collectively influenced thousands of young lives. Janet taught four different grade levels at three different elementary schools over her thirty-one year career. Her natural kindness, compassion and encouraging nature made her a highly desired teacher for hundreds of parents in the school district. After retiring from teaching, Janet was a tireless volunteer for The Discovery Shoppe of Chico for many years. She touched countless individuals in her journey through life and all of them were blessed to have known her. She loved traveling, gardening, volunteering, shopping and any kind of family activity. She was preceded in death by her Father Jack, Stepmother Elsie and one brother Melvin (Mary). She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 63 years Bush, brother Harry, sons Mark (Cindy) and Rick, grandchildren Kyle (Amanda), Jennah (Steve) and great-grandchild Reese, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be directed to the Enloe Hospice Care Program. Jessie Alberta Northrup died Friday at an Albany nursing home at the age of 84.

She was born to Rollo and Cora Munsinger in Nebraska. She grew up and received her education in Nebraska and worked as a dishwasher and in food preparation for a number of years. Later, she was employed for about 11 years as a food line inspector at Or-Ida Frozen Foods in Ontario, Ore.

She and Clarence Salter were married in Nebraska in 1935. After a divorce, she married Earl D. Northrup in 1941, also in Nebraska. After her husband's death in 1987, Mrs. Northrup moved to Jefferson, later to Salem and then to Albany to live with her son Terry.

She moved to a nursing home three years ago.

Mrs. Northrup is survived by sons Clarence Northrup (sic) of Washington state, Franklin and Terry Northrup of Albany and Danny Northrup of Payette, Idaho. Her son Donovan Northrup died before her.

She also is surviived by her brother Kenneth Munsinger of St. Edward, Neb., sister Velma van Oyen of Whitebird, Idaho, 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mrs. Northrup will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at AAsum Funeral Chapel, Albany.

     John Christian Munsinger was born on 18 December 1817 at Bruchmühlbach, Sickinger Höhe, Palatinate (now Rhein-Pfalz), Germany, Stated his age correctly in the 1880 and previous censuses. Subsequently, five additional years appeared on his stated age, in support of his (false) claim to have been born in 1812 just in advance of Napoleon's march to Russia. His headstone was engraved with the age based on the story, not the true birth year.^1,2 He was the son of Christian Adam Munzinger and Maria Eva Krick. John Christian Munsinger was christened on 21 December 1817 at Lambsborn, Palatinate; Christening record shows name as "Christian".³ He married Sarah Fowl, daughter of Godfrey Faul and Sarah Gardner, on 4 July 1840 at Oberlin, Lorain Co., OH. John Christian Munsinger lived in 1850 at Russia Twp., Lorain Co., OH, from sometime after 1830 to 1866. Moved family to Jones County, Iowa in 1866. Moved to Smith County, Kansas 1881, after buying properties there for his sons during the preceding several years. Was living with son James Munsinger, Ames, Iowa, as of the 1900 census. The family story is that he "rotated" among the households of his children after he sold his farm in 1892, staying with each family "for as long as they could stand it."⁴

He married Julina Fuller, daughter of Enoch Fuller and Karenhappuch Parmer/Palmer, on 23 January 1850 at Oberlin, Lorain Co., OH, from Wilda Spaulding's letter dated October 29, 1987 to the Oberlin College Archives:

"Sarah Fowl died after her fourth child was born. Sarah knew that she couldn't get well so asked her best girlfriend, Julina, to marry John and help raise the babies. That must have been the reason Julina quit school."

The ceremony was performed by Rev. John Morgan in the Morgan home in Oberlin.⁵

John Christian Munsinger lived in June 1860 at Russia Twp., Lorain Co., OH.⁶ He lived in June 1880 at Rome Twp., Jones Co., IA. Occupation: Farming and veterinary consulting.

Cousin Wilda has a souvenir pamphlet of the early settlers of Smith County, Kansas. Great-grandfather John was honored with his picture on the back. She states that it contained just his picture and under the picture was "Born in Germany, December 10, 1812, located in Smith County in 1880." She states further "He did buy a lot of land -- the place where my Grandfather Finn lived; across the road where Uncle Will lived (south of Smith Center) and also land west of there a couple of miles or so, the Uncle Ed Munsinger place. My Grandfather Tucker bought that place from Uncle Ed. That is where Aubrey and I were born. The old rock house was still there about 20 years ago when I took Mother Vivian to Smith County. She said the same wallpaper was still on the wall. Cousin Charles Taylor was homesteading here when he met Elizabeth Munsinger.

CELEBRATE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY DECEMBER 10

John Munsinger Making Great Preparations to Have Children With Him

Special to the Capital.

     Smith Center, Kan., Nov. 30 -- John Munsinger, a resident of this county for a third of a century, is making great preparations to celebrate his one hundredth birthday at the home of one of his sons in Howard, this state, December 10. Elaborate preparations are being made for the event and all the children, thirteen in number, will assemble from their homes in all parts of the United States and assist in making the occasion a memorable one. As the plans were originally made, the celebration was to have been held in this city, but later it was decided to change the gathering place to Howard, where the largest hall in town has been secured to accommodate the gathering. While the occasion is one in which only relatives will participate it is expected that there will be present, including children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, a crowd of two hundred. An elaborate banquet contributed by the sons and daughters will be one of the features.
     Grandfather Munsinger was born in Germany, December 10, 1812. He came to America in 1826 (it was actually 1828) and to this county in 1880. At the age of twenty-five he was married for the first time and to this union four children were born. His wife dying, he was married a second time many years later and became the father of ten more children. One of these, a daughter, died in the latter seventies. Wife number two died in this county in 1880 (actually it was in Rome Twp., Jones County, Iowa). The thirteen surviving children, all of whom are making arrangements to be present when their father and honored centenarian celebrates his birthday are as follows: George and Ed Munsinger and Sarah Knickerbocker, Moline, Kan; Mary Smith of South Dakota; John Munsinger of Oregon; Elizabeth Taylor of Denver, Colo; J. K. Munsinger, Howard, Kan., J.M. Munsinger, Ames, Iowa; C. G. Munsinger, Harlan, Kan; Susie Taylor, McCracken, Kan; Rosie L. Dewey, Oakland, Calif; Will and F. S. Munsinger, this city.
     Although having attained an age that few men ever see, Mr. Munsinger is remarkably active, both mentally and physically. He still takes a keen interest in all affairs of the world and nothing delights him more than a romp with some of his great or great great grand children. One of the feats that he delights in performing for some visitor is springing into the air and cracking his heels together three times before alighting. Asked how to reach five score years his reply is invariably, "Be temperate in all things and worry not."


OBITUARY:

     Friday evening, September 21, 1917, at about 4 o'clock, John Munsinger passed away, at the home of his son, J. K. Munsinger, at the great age of 104 years, 9 months and 11 days. Grandpa Munsinger had been in his usual good health until a few weeks ago, when it was noticed that he was growing weaker and less disposed to walk around. He suffered no pain and his last days were passed in peace and quiet. A few days before his death he refused sustenance, and quietly awaited his final summons.
     John Munsinger was a familiar figure in Howard life for many years, and until the hot weather of the past summer came on, he was to be seen on our streets almost as frequently as any of our citizens. He retained his faculties to a remarkable degree, his eyesight being excellent and his hearing but very slightly dulled. When he was 103 years old, he appeared before the Old Settlers' Reunion in this city, made a speech, and danced a jig. He retained an accurate recollection of the incidents of his youth and mature years and enjoyed talking with his friends.
     Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in this city, Sunday at 2:30 and a great crowd of relatives, friends, and neighbors filled the church and the surrounding space, Rev. Glen C. Wade conducted the service, and was assisted by Rev. O. L. Weir and a quartet of singers. The remains were taken to Olin, Iowa, Monday for interment at the old home.
     The following brief sketch of the life of this good old man was read at the funeral:

     John Munsinger was born in Wittenberg, Germany, December 10, 1812, died at the home of his son J. K. Munsinger, in Howard, Kansas, Sept. 21, 1917, age 104 years, 9 months, and 11 days.
     He came with his parents to America in 1824 landing at New York, then going west and settling in Lorain county, Ohio. In 1833 he was married to Miss Sarah Fowler. To this union four children were born, two boys and two girls. His wife dying in 1849.
     He was again united in marriage to Miss Julina Fuller. To this union were born ten children, six boys and four girls. In the year 1866 he moved with his family to Jones county, Iowa where the wife and mother passed away May 2, 1880. In 1881 he moved to Smith county, Kansas. In 1892 he sold out and broke up the home and since then has spent his days visiting his children. Three daughters have gone on before.
     There are left to mourn his loss: Geo. and Ed. of Moline, Ks. J. P. of Nehalem, Oregon. J.K. of Howard, Ks. J. M. of Ames, Iowa. C.G. of Harlan, Ks. W. G. and F. S. of Smith Center, Ks. Mrs. Susie Taylor of Scott City, Ks. Mrs. Rosa Dewey of Oakland, California and Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor of Ames, Iowa. One brother, David Munsinger of Nebraska. Eighty-seven grand children. Seventy great grandchildren. Fourteen great-great grandchildren and a host of friends.
     Grandpa united with the Lutheran Church when but a young man, but lived the most of his life in the Christian Church of which he died a true and faithful member.

Per Wilda (Tucker) Spaulding, the John Munsinger house in Rome Township was built in two sections. The attic was made into a room that had a separate entrance from the front porch, where travelling salesmen (or John on occasion) would stay.

He died on 21 September 1917 at Howard, Elk Co., KS, at age 99. He was buried in September 1917 at Green Center Cemetery, Rome Twp., Jones Co., IA, Findagrave #75022249.

     John David Munsinger was also known as "Jack". He was born on 16 May 1903 at Albion, Boone Co., NE. He was the son of Franklin Munsinger and Rosa Vargason. John David Munsinger married Marjorie F. Crosby, daughter of Winwood Hallis Crosby and Amelia Mae Wetzel, in 1928 at Greeley Co., NE.¹ John David Munsinger married Elsie Dora Spence, daughter of David A. Spence and Clara Adelaide Wheeler, in 1933. John David Munsinger lived on 1 April 1935 at Wheeler Co., NE.² He lived on 2 April 1940 at Red Bluff District, Tehama Co., CA, farm laborer.² He died on 11 February 1964 at Los Molinos, Tehama Co., CA, at age 60. Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home, St. Cloud and one hour prior to the services at church on Wednesdsay. John was born April 15, 1928 in St. Cloud to Joseph and Angeline (Nierengarten) Munsinger. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during World War II and the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was also involved in Signal Corps from 1951 - 1953, training service personnel in communications. John married Jean Tenvoorde on June 9, 1956 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. Cloud. He was employed with Northwest Bell from 1947 until his retirement in 1986. John was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church where he served as an usher and a collections counter for 40 years. John was also a member of St. Cloud VFW #4847 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #622. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his sons, trips to the casino, Wednesday morning coffee with friends, flower gardening and working on his home. John was caring, sentimental, and hardworking and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Patty (John) Scott of St. Cloud, Mike (Teri Recht) of Harris, Kym (Wayne) Daffer of Leawood, KS, Tom of Zumbrota; sister, Mary Mollica of Manawa, WI; six grandchildren and one great grandson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Peter; siblings, Lucretia Galvan, Margaret Hollenorst, Gordon Munsinger, Elaine Hernandez, and Evelyn Bombardier.

John's family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff of CentraCare Hospice, VA Medical Center, and Senior Linkage.

John Guy Munsinger began military service WW II service, Pacific Theater. He married Valerie Faye Garrad. John Guy Munsinger died on 2 December 2010 at Natrona Co., WY, at age 85 Dates per SSDI, last residence Mills. He was buried in December 2010 at Glenrock Cemetery, Glenrock, Converse Co., WY, Findagrave #152567388.

     John Paul Munsinger was born on 9 December 1850 at Russia Twp., Lorain Co., OH. He was the son of John Christian Munsinger and Julina Fuller. John Paul Munsinger lived in June 1880 at Nevadaville, Gilpin Co., CO, Census p.47C. He lived in April 1930 at Center Twp/, Smith Co., KS, with nephew Ray J. Taylor. Apparenly also lived in McCracken, Kansas in the 1920's.¹ He died on 24 October 1933 at Smith Co., KS, at age 82. He was buried in October 1933 at Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, Smith Co., KS, Findagrave #10858422.

Uncle John spent many years in Central City, Colorado working in a grocery store and delivering groceries. Some of his stories concerned those who were sinking shafts trying to hit the rich veins of gold. He told of a man and his wife who would sink their shaft until they ran out of money for blasting powder. They would stop working, she would take in washing, he would do odd jobs and deliver the clean clothes. Finally when they again had a stake they would go back to sinking the shaft. These two hit it rich but the ones who had had them to wash clothing for them always remembered that they were once very poor and reminded them at every opportunity.



Later, he went to Oregon and worked as a bookkeeper for a lumber company at Salem Bay. Later, he did some salmon fishing taking out Easterners to catch salmon and dug clams. He spent many years in Oregon. He lived in Oregon per 1912 Topeka Capital article re: 100th birthday celebration, and was still living in Nehalem as of his father's 1917 obituary.

He did not marry.

     Joseph Munsinger lived at Tabor, Mills Co., IA, settling there in 1853. Cause of death: Died of pneumonia, per obit. Mills County Tribune, Glenwood, IA 28 Dec 1906.
Note: Joseph came to Mills County, Iowa at age 22. He was founder of Tabor, and of Tabor College. He applied for a land grant at the Government land office, Kanesville (now Council Bluffs). He received title to the land January 23, 1853, which bears the signature of President Franklin Pierce. Joseph returned to Ohio and married Martha E. Stang April 20, 1853, in Oberlin. They then came to their homestead in Mills County. He was born on 27 April 1832 at Pittsfield, Lorain Co., OH. He was the son of Christian Adam Munzinger and Maria Eva Krick. Joseph Munsinger married Martha E. Stang, daughter of Adam Stang and Anna Catherine Grau, on 20 April 1853 at Oberlin, Lorain Co., OH, Ceremony by Prof. Rev. John Morgan of Oberlin College. Joseph Munsinger died on 26 December 1906 at Tabor, Mills Co., IA, at age 74.

     Joseph Korah Munsinger was also known as Jay K. referred to as "Jay" in 1912 article on father's birthday. He was born on 27 January 1855 at Russia Twp., Lorain Co., OH. He was the son of John Christian Munsinger and Julina Fuller. Joseph Korah Munsinger married Edith Eleanor Steward, daughter of Hiram Steward and Nancy Soesbe, on 20 December 1876 at Walnut Grove, Jones Co., IA. Joseph Korah Munsinger lived in 1880 at Center Twp., Smith Co., KS, relocated to Howard, Elk County, Kansas before 12 JUN 1900 -- he was farming there as of the 1900 census.¹ He lived on 12 June 1900 at Union Twp., Elk Co., KS, farming.² He died on 27 June 1932 at Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS, at age 77 The Howard Courant, July 7, 1932:

Moore, Wichita, aged 77 years, 5 months. At the age of 11 years he moved with his parents to Jones County, Iowa where he grew to manhood. On December 20, 1876, he was united in marriage to Edith Eleanor Steward. To this union were born seven children: Abbey Gorman, M. M. Munsinger, H. S. Munsinger of Howard, Mrs. E. H. Dimity of Los Angeles, Mrs. J. W. Moore of Wichita, Mrs. L. A. Crutcher of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. L. F. Delameter of Borger, Texas.      Joseph Merrill Munsinger was born on 7 November 1896 at Tabor, Mills Co., IA. He was the son of Myron T. Munsinger and Minerva Johnson. Joseph Merrill Munsinger married Leone Harriet Heikes, daughter of Lyman Luther Heikes and Elizabeth Louise Owens, on 28 July 1917 at NE (probably). Joseph Merrill Munsinger died on 21 November 1979 at Tabor, Mills Co., IA, at age 83. He was buried in November 1979 at Tabor Cemetary, Tabor, Mills Co., IA, Findagrave #188908586.

     Joseph Merrill Munsinger Jr. was born on 17 August 1918 at San Francisco Co., CA. He was the son of Joseph Merrill Munsinger and Leone Harriet Heikes. Joseph Merrill Munsinger Jr. married Erna Marie Hoffman, daughter of Alexander Otto Hoffmann and Marie Louise Scheu, on 11 May 1941 at Glenwood, Mills Co., IA. Joseph Merrill Munsinger Jr. began military service on 24 June 1944 at Camp Dodge, IA, WW II service, discharged 2 JUN 1946. He died on 1 January 1980 at age 61.

     Joseph Phelps Munsinger was born on 11 January 1876 at Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Peter Munsinger and Margaretha Smith. Joseph Phelps Munsinger married Angela Nierengarten, daughter of Joseph Nierengarten and Caroline Dietrich, on 19 July 1910 at St. Cloud, Stearns Co., MN. Joseph Phelps Munsinger died on 25 April 1946 at St. Cloud, Stearns Co., MN, at age 70.

     Josephine Beatrice Munsinger was also known as "Jo B." Josephine Beatrice Munsinger was also known as Josephine B. Coulter. She was born on 10 May 1882 at Muscatine, Muscatine Co., IA.¹ She was the daughter of Charles Jefferson Munsinger and Emma Josephine Werley.¹ Josephine Beatrice Munsinger married Noah Webster Thiele on 21 September 1910 at Livingston, Park Co., MT,

Josephine B Thiele, 97, Manson, died Monday evening at Regency Manor.

Mrs. Thiele was born May 10, 1882, at Muscatine, Iowa, and graduated from high school there. She attended business college in Iowa, and was later employed with the John Deere Company at Billings, Mont.

For 30 years Mrs. Thiele was employed with the state of Montana, at Helena, until her retirement in 1969. She moved to Manson in 1976.

Mrs. Thiele was a member of the Order of Easter Star, Chapter No. 89, Helena, Mont., and the Daughters fo the Nile

Survivors include a nephew, Leonard Hahn, Manson.

She was buried in April 1980 at Chelan Fraternal Cemetery, Chelan, Chelan Co., WA, Findagrave #24405730.
