Mary Naill

Mary Elizabeth Naill, 71, of Hobe Sound, died Wednesday, April 15 at her home.

A native of Hanover, Pa., she lived in Hobe Sound for eight months, coming from Coconut Creek, Fla.

She was the co-founder and a volunteer for ATRA Service Force, Manahawkin, N.J.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Scroggins of Hobe Sound and Linda Duswalt of Manahawkin, N.J; two sons, Mason and Stephen Duswalt of Arlington, Texas; a sister, Virginia Cesario of Monterey, Mass; a brother, Richard Naill of Hanover; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Three Persons Are Hurt

Three persons were injured when the automobile in which they were riding crashed into a utility pole in Woodstock about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, state police reported. Troopers said Nathaniel Mason, 35; Mary Mason, 26, and David Marshack, 41, all of New York, were taken to Kingston Hospital after being treated on the scene by Dr. Hans Cohn. All have since been discharged from the hospital, authorities there reported this morning. Mary Mason will be arraigned later today before Justice of the Peace George Braendly on a charge of driving without a license, according to the state police report. The accident occurred on Route 212 about tow blocks from the Woodstock Playhouse, troopers said.

Hanoverians Stationed at Fort Niagara in Love With Service and Would not Leave it Under any Circumstances

VISITED BY RELATIVES

"Tell our friends at home that we love the service and would no leave it if we could" was the message sent here from Richard Young Naill and Henry Bittinger, Hanover boys stationed at Fort Niagara, with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Naill, Miss Katherine Brough and Miss Helen Young, who recently visited the New York Camp.

"The boys have learned a new set of values" said Miss Young, in an interview here this morning "and they have learned much from association with 1,500 men and boys encamped at Fort Niagara, -- men who have come from various walks of life, many of whom are college bred.

"The Hanover boys look physically fit and their one concern now is, since they have passed successfully their final examinations, into what service they will be placed and what commissions will fall to their lots.

'There is not a lazy man in the lot," she continued. "The men are being put through a stiff course of training that begins at 1:45 a.m. and does not end until 9:30 p.m.? ? We watched them drill," she said, with a smile and a glow of pride, "and noted how easily the various companies, armed with muskets scaled three foot, four foot, and even six foot fences, jumped over banks formed of sand bags and cleared trenches filled with water.

"The bayonet charge was most interesting, many clever stabs being made at the dummies provided for the drill.

"Courses of study are both difficult and instructive and faithful work in this line of the service is bound to count for promotion. Calisthenic drills are also held and the science of military tactics is taught in minute detail.

"We saw the aviation camp and witnessed a demonstration by an officer, who flew from one camp to another. We also saw the men on parade, reviewed by the Mayor of Toronto.

"The funniest treat we had was a vaudeville show, between the acts of which dancing was indulged in on the concrete road. Each company, Company 3, of which Richard Naill and W. Lavera Hafer, Frederick street, and Company 9, of which Henry Bittinger is a part, included, gave a performance and the entire program was a rare treat for excellent talent was displayed."

Miss young told of the royal manor in which the Canadians treat the men at the camps. When they journey to Toronto, the city band plays them a welcome and private families invite the men to dinner, take them on auto rides and see to it that they have a good time and a real relaxation from the difficult training they are undergoing.

The camp is expected to close August 11, after a three months' session.

Lieutenant Richard Y. Naill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry C. Naill, Hanover, who was wounded some time before October first, in the right arm, while in action with Company D. Three Hundred and Sixteenth infantry, "over there" is convalescing and expects to be sent back shortly to his command. Information to this effect was contained in a letter written by the lieutenant to relatives in Hanover.

An Austrian rifle, found on Hill 378, near Verdun, by Lieutenant Richard Y. Naill, son of Mr. and Mrs Harry C. Naill, of Hanover has been received by his parents. Lieutenant Naill, who was wounded in action on September 29th, having been shot through the right arm by a machine gun bullet and later suffered an attack of trench feet and rheumatism, recently landed in New York city.

Lieut. Richard Y. Naill, of Hanover, who arrived in New York from overseas last week, has been sent to a hospital at Lakewood, N. J., for treatment. Lieut. Naill had one of the bones of his ankle broken in falling into a shell-hole on a battlefield, in France.

The bridegroom served as a Second Lieutenant in the 316th Regiment, 79th Division, A.E.F., overseas and was wounded in action. He is a District Deputy commander of the American Legion. Mr. Naill is a traveling representative of the Long Furniture Company, of which his father is secretary and assistant treasurer.

Richard Y. Naill, Veteran Officer, Legion Head, Dies

Maj. Richard Young Naill, 68, of 126 York Street, a veteran of World Wars I and II and first commander of Harold H. Bair Post 14, American Legion, died this morning at the U.S. Veteran Hospital, Baltimore. He was a son of the late Harry Clifton and Grace Young Naill.

Major Naill was a graduate of Hanover High School and served in the first World War as an officer in the 79th Division's 316th Infantry. After receiving wounds in conflict, he received the purple Heart.

He served with the Army Transportation Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was superintendent of Camp Pendleton, Virginia Military Reservation, Virginia Beach, Va., for 25 years. He was commander of the Berryville, Va. American Legion Post.

Following World War I. he was an assistant secretary of the former Long Furniture Co. in Hanover. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 1 of St, Mark Lutheran Church and was one of the original organizers of scouting in this area. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and Patmos Lodge 348, Free and Accepted Masons.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Fitz Naill; three children, Mrs. Virginia Cesario, Edgewood, N/J; Richard Y. Naill Jr., Reisterstown, and Mrs. Mary Duswalt, New York eight grandchildren; a brother, William Y. Naill Sr., Hanover R. D. 1, and a sister, Mrs. Mary N. Livingston, Lincoln Heights, New Oxford.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Panebaker funeral home, 311 Broadway. The Rev. Robert A. Reasor. vicar of Prince of peace Episcopal Church, Gettysburg, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The American Legion post will conduct military rites at the funeral home and also at the family plot in the cemetery. In lieu of other memorials, it is suggested that contributions be sent to the Hanover Red Cross chapter or the Hanover Public Library.

Richard Young Naill, 74, died peacefully at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at his home. He was the husband of Louise D. Clark Naill. Mr. Naill was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Abbottstown. He retired from the Ward Machine Company. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children and 12 grandchildren. Services were held at the convenience of the family. MONTEREY -- Virginia Naill Cesario, 77, of Blue Hill Road, a retired professor and librarian at City College of New York, died Dec. 28 at Willowood of Pittsfield. Born in Hanover, Pa., on Dec. 9, 1923, daughter of Richard and Lucy Fitz Naill, she received a bachelor of arts degree from the College of William and Mary in 1945, and a bachelor of science degree with honors in library science from Columbia University in 1947. Mrs. Cesario was employed as the circulation assistant at the City College Library, City University, N.Y., from 1947 to 1965; instructor and administrative assistant from 1964 to 1968; assistant professor and assistant chief librarian for public service from 1968 to 1975; associate professor and department librarian from 1972 to 1975; and professor and chief librarian from 1975 to her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the American Librarian Association, where she held various offices within the association. She was also a member of the AAUP, the Library Association at City University, N.Y., the American Society of Informational Science and the New York Library Association. Mrs. Cesario was a member of the New York Library Club, the ACLU, Archons of Colophon, Common Cause and Phi Beta Kappa. She bought her home on Blue Hill Road in the early 1950s and retired to Monterey permanently in 1978. She and her husband, Michael J. Cesario, whom she married Aug. 14, 1948, divorced in 1965. She leaves a brother, Richard Naill of Hanover, Pa.

Professor Virginia Cesario of Fort Lee is the first woman to be appointed chief librarian and Library department chairperson at city College of New York.

A 1954 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, she received a bachelor's degree in library science in 1947 from Columbia University. Since joining the CCNY library staff in 1947, she has been head of the circulation division, chief supervisor of the reserve book section, and administrative assistant to the chief librarian. Her last assignment was acting chief librarian and library department chairperson.

Professor Cesario is a member of the American Library Association.

     Charles Newton Nale was born in October 1843 at Indiana. He married Samantha Maria Beck, daughter of Daniel Beck and Phoebe Ann Liming, on 29 January 1899 at Washington Co., IN. Margaret Elizabeth Nance Tyler, 93, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away April 11, 2015 at New Mark Care Center.
She was born in Stockton, Missouri on May 21, 1921 to Charles Claiborne and Mary Etta Hartley Nance.
She graduated Stockton High School in 1939, and pursued her education in 1940 at Draughn’s Business School in Springfield.
She married James L. Tyler Jr. in Fulton, Missouri on October 20, 1941, and from their union came four children. Janet Kay, Nance Elizabeth, James L. III and Daniel Joseph Tyler.
She enjoyed travelling, fishing, painting, tending her flowers, and all types of music. Margaret was also an avid ham radio operator, receiving her operator’s license and call sign of WBOJVQ in 1969, and was active for many years in local ham radio clubs and activities. Her pleasant demeanor and sense of humor endeared her to scores of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James L. Tyler Jr., her brother Charles Hartley Nance of Jefferson City, her daughter Janet Kay Tyler Wyller, and two grandsons, Grover Howard Mudd and Charlie Allen Mudd.
She is survived by her daughter Nance Elizabeth Koon of Kansas City, and two sons, James L. Tyler of Weston and Daniel J. Tyler of Kansas City, and four grandchildren: James Ketchum of Port Charlotte, FL, Debora Schauer of Flagstaff, AZ, and Jeffrey Steudler and Kathryn Tyler from Kansas City.
A visitation will be held 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City, MO. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 15, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Fort Leavenworth Kansas. The family suggests contributions be given to Crossroads Hospice.

     Margaret A. Nanna was born circa 1885. She married Frederic Meeker, son of John F. Meeker and Lucinda Green, on 11 October 1905.

     Alice Narberg was born circa 1902 at Minnesota.¹ She married Mansell Tallman, son of Carl Thomas Tallman and Blanch Louise Pence.

     Donald Oscar Narigon was born on 16 November 1934 at Nodaway Twp., Adams Co., IA; son of Virgil Oscar and Flossie (Brown) Narigon. He married Cheryl Lee Johnson, daughter of Iver Carl Johnson and Blanche Lingenfelter, on 27 November 1976. Donald Oscar Narigon died on 18 January 2020 at Corning, Adams Co., IA, at age 85

Donald Oscar Narigon, the son of Virgil Oscar and Flossie (Brown) Narigon, was born November 16, 1934, at their home in Nodaway Township. Don entered eternal rest Saturday, January 18, 2020, at CHI Mercy Hospital, Corning, Iowa, at the age of eighty-five years.

Don attended the Nodaway School and graduated with the Class of 1953. Don was united in marriage to Joanne Griffith on May 15, 1952. Four children blessed this union; David, Daniel, Douglas and Kathy Jo. Don and his family farmed in Adams County until 1962 when they moved to Red Oak. Don was then employed as an insurance agent with Farm Bureau and in 1963 he was promoted to agency manager for Ringgold County. He moved to Audubon County as agency manager for Audubon and Guthrie Counties.

Don and his family returned to Adams County in 1969 when they moved into Corning where Don worked in advertising and insurance. After his divorce, Don married Cheryl Johnson on November 27, 1976, and in 1977 they moved to the family farm in Nodaway Township. In 1983, they established the first pure bred herd of Gelbvieh cattle in Adams County. Cheryl passed away October 28, 2001. Their farm was recognized as a Century Farm in 2002.

Don was united in marriage to Mary Jane Pindell on November 16, 2002 in Creston, Iowa. They operated the restaurant in the club house at Sun Valley Lake from 2005 through 2008. Don and Mary Jane enjoyed their time traveling. They moved to Creston, Iowa, in February 2018.

Don was very active in community and civic organizations throughout his life. He served as a Republican Party Delegate to the County, District and State Conventions. Don was a Farm Bureau member all his life. He also served as a lay minister at the Nodaway United Methodist Church. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. Don was known for his sense of humor and being a very positive person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish Don’s memory are his wife, Mary Jane; children: David (Annette); Dan (Laurie); Kathy (Noel); Doug (Andrea); step-children: Connie (Patrick); Diana (Randy); Donna; Randy (Shelly). 23 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; siblings: Joe and Effie; many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Don in death were his parents; wife, Cheryl; mother of his children, Joanne; sister, Eleanor Newman.

     Nancy L. Narlee was born on 2 December 1948. She married Donald Mike Brehm, son of Donald L. Brehm and Olla Rae Williams, in 1970 at Lawrence Co., PA. Nancy L. Narlee died on 26 May 2009 at age 60. She was buried in May 2009 at Mercer Citizens Cemetery, Mercer, Mercer Co., PA, Findagrave #167385547.

     Charles William Naron was born on 11 August 1890 at Pratt, Pratt Co., KS.¹ He married Nellie May Manis. Charles William Naron died in January 1984 at age 93.
Note: Charles was born Charles William Vanatta, son of Thomas and Cora Vanatta. He changed his surname between 1920 and 1930 for unknown reasons.

     Thelma Irene Naron was born on 1 January 1929 at Morton Co. (probably), KS, Nellie was 35 when Thelma was born, and had no other children either before or after Nellie. It is possible, if not likely, that Nellie was adopted by the Narons, who were previously the Vanattas as of the 1920 census. DLB 2020.¹ She was the daughter of Charles William Naron and Nellie May Manis.¹ Thelma Irene Naron married Dwight Theodore DeVoss Jr., son of Dwight Theodore DeVoss Sr. and Dorothy Davault.
