JIM DALE PHIPPS SEP 19, 1932 - AUG 25, 2009 Jim Dale Phipps, age 76, was found dead in his Ceres home on Tuesday. He began Ceres Cable TV, owned multiple Almond Ranches in the area and founded and owned River Oaks Golf Course. He attended Ceres High School where he met his future bride, Carol Marie Romesha. They married on July 27, 1951 and moved to Fremont in 1958, where Jim was in the insurance business. With his wife he developed a very successful real estate business. Jim's health prompted the couple to move to an almond ranch in Hickman in 1970. Mr. Phipps moved back to Ceres in 1973. Jim started the first Ceres cable TV franchise. In 1979, Jim and Carol developed River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres. Both Jim and Carol ran the businesses with family members. Mr. Phipps helped to start the Junior Golf program at River Oaks, ultimately introducing the sport of golf to over 8,000 area youth. He also used the golf course to raise tens of thousands of dollars for Community Hospice and Ceres High School. Carol Phipps died a year ago on August 31, 2008. Mr. Phipps' personal life was punctuated with a series of tragedies. He watched three of his sons pass away. Son William H. Phipps died in an airplane crash in Alaska, Douglas A. Phipps died of cancer, and son Robert L. Phipps, a member of the Ceres City Council, died of a heart attack at age 44 on December 2, 2007. He leaves behind two children, Michael D. Phipps of Ceres and Janis M. Phipps of Hughson; six grandchildren, Jared Phipps of Cabo San Lucas, Jonathan Carmean and Dustin Phipps, both of Hughson, Kristen Phipps of Hickman, Lindsay Phipps of Riverbank, and Amanda Phipps of San Luis Obispo; two great grandchildren and his dog Buffer. A visitation will be held 4-7 PM, Sunday, August 30, 2009 followed by a 10 AM, chapel service, Monday, August 31, 2009; both at Lakewood Funeral Home. Burial following the service at Lakewood Memorial Park. After the interment, a Celebration of Life will be at Ceres Community Center, 2701 4th Street, Ceres, CA 95307. A native of New Albany, Pfc. Phipps was a graduate of the High School and well known there for his interest in band work and basketball. He would have been in the Army two years in October and had served overseas since February. He was formerly employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company.
Besides his parents Pfc. Phipps is survived by a brother, Pfc. Russell D. Phipps.

Jerry E. Piatt, 74, of Findlay, passed away Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012, at Birchaven Village, Findlay.

He was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Springfield, to Kenneth and Marie (Smith) Piatt. He married Carol S. Kuebler Dec. 26, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carol; son, Kevin Piatt of Rome, N.Y; daughter, Karen (Adam) Gold of Fort Smith, Ark; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Joshua Gold.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Lita Piatt.

He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and a 1955 graduate of Fairborn High School and Heidelberg College in 1961. He began his career with Ohio Bell and Motorola as an analyst and worked for INA Insurance Co. and USAA. He lived throughout the country and after retiring in 1993, moved to Findlay. Jerry enjoyed golfing, reading, bowling, playing baseball and weightlifting.

His Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at St. Francis Home Chapel, Tiffin, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin.

Ruth M. Remaklus, 71, of Eaton, died Monday, Aug. 17, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Eaton, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Eula (Tipton) Piatt. She was a 1944 graduate of Eaton High School and a 1948 graduate of the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Remaklus was a retired registered nurse from Franciscan Medical Center in Dayton, and was a member of the Eaton Church of the Visitation.

Remaklus; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl L. and Paul Schaeffer, Mary L. and Tim Goubeaux, all of Eaton, Lisa L. and Martin Moore of Mesa, Ariz; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark G. and Denise Remaklus of Eaton, James S. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Visitation Catholic Church, 407 E. Main St., Eaton, with the Rev. Thomas Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in Preble Memory Gardens, West Alexandria. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, 220 E. Main St., where a Rosary service will be conducted at 8 p.m.
