Joseph Parrett began military service in December 1775 Revolutionary War service. Enlisted in Virginia militia. Served in Capt. Jonathan Clark's Company of the 8th Virginia Regiment, Revolutionary War. Commissioned Lieutenant in 1778, served the balance of the war, and was discharged at Woodstock, VA in November 1781. Referred to as "Capt." Joseph Parrett in the History of Fayette County, Ohio, Frank M. Allen, Editor, B. F. Bowden & Co., Inc., Indianapolis, 1914, p.85. Was given land warrants in Ohio for military service.
