He married Vesta Audley Varner at Washington Co., PA, Vesta and Samuel may or may not have been legally married -- no record found. They were the parents of a stillborn infant born in October, 1919, and they were listed together as husband and wife on the January, 1920, federal census. However, Vesta remarried, using her maiden name, to Earle Carter Wright on 10 May, 1922, under a marriage license filed 29 MAY 1922 in Washington County, PA, and had at least two children with him. She remarried a second time to John E. Ward on 1 NOV 1943 at Winchester, Virginia.2

Samuel Richard Penn lived on 5 January 1920 at North Franklin Twp., Washington Co., PA.2 He died in 1928. He was buried in 1928 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery, Banesville, Washington Co., PA, Findagrave #22939941 -- shares a headstone with his parents.
