In the divorce petition filed by David S. Peppel against his wife, Lela M. Peppel, a decree has been obtained by the plaintiff on the ground of extreme cruelty and also upon payment of costs. A decree has been entered approving a settlement. The custody of two minor children has been awarded the plaintiff, while the court gave the custody of another minor to the defendant. This petition was field March 31 last.

Richard E. Peppel
Richard E. Peppel, 42, of the Woodsdale Road, RD 2, Salem, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Salem Central Clinic at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday following a heart attack suffered while on the Twin Springs Golf Course near Guilford Lake.

Born in Salem March 2, 1922, the son of the late David S. Peppel and Lela Peppel Knepper, he lived in the area all his life, was employed by the Eljer Co. and was a World Ward II veteran of the Marine Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Murray Peppel; his mother, of Leetonia; five daughters, Mrs. Donna Oldfield of Sebring, Mrs. Linda Carpenter of Alliance, Darlene, Cheryl and Judy of the home; two brothers, Forrest Peppel of Beloit, and Jack Peppel of Salem; two half-sisters, Mrs. Julie Pannell of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Leafey Macry of Leetonia; two half brothers, Larry Knepper of Hanna City Air Force Base, Ill., and James Knepper of Columbiana, and four grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. William Longsworth, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodsdale Cemetery.

Steven Forrest Peppel, 73 of Salem passed away at 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Salem Regional Medical Center in Salem.

He was born on April 18, 1948 in Salem to his parents, the late Forrest and Dorothy (Shears) Peppel.

Steven was a 1966 graduate of West Branch High School. He was a member of the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. Steven had a wide array of activities that kept him busy. He was a collector of trains and liked to fly remote controlled helicopters. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and spending time on the golf course. In fact, he became quite talented as a one handed golfer after an earlier accident left the use of his arm limited. Steven was just as fond of going to the Car Shows as he was about "wrenching on cars". He was especially partial to sports cars. At one time owning the GT6 Triumph and a 1970's Triumph Spit Fire. Steven was a fun loving and colorful man. If you were to ask him what his favorite things to do were, he would say cussing and giving people a hard time. To those who knew him well, they knew this to be true.

Steven is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Laura "Lori" Peppel of Daytona Beach, FL, along with a nephew and niece.
