Donald E. Rogers

Auburn-Donald E. Rogers 65, of Auburn died Friday, June 20 2003, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Auburn, the son of Lance "Tip" and Grace Denning Rogers. He married Beverly Fuller in 1959 in Auburn; she died in 1997.

Mr. Rogers graduated from Auburn High School and retired from Hobbs Manufacturing Co. in 2001 after 44 years. He was a member of the Auburn Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors: a daughter, Gaetana (husband John) Thirlwall of Auburn; a son Phillip (wife, Carol) Rogers of Auburn; four grandchildren; a sister Phyllis (husband Ralph) White of Auburn; an aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Auburn Cemetery, the Rev. Estell Jones officating.

Floyd Leroy Rogers, 87, a retired farmer and lifelong resident of the Novelty community, died at 6:45 o'clock Friday evening, Dec. 29, 1972, at the Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville. He had been admitted there Nov. 26.

Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina with the Reverends Richard Ralstin of Novelty and Bob Schofield of Lancaster officiating. Burial was in the Novelty Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, who before their marriage Jan. 12, 1908, at Novelty, was Miss Winnie McCarty, two daughters, Margaret, Mrs. Paul Egge, of Vinton, Iowa, and Mrs. Leota Moubry of Novelty, a son, Carroll Rogers, also of Novelty, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rogers was born Jan. 13, 1885, in Knox County, a son of one of the 14 children of Sanford C. and Margaret Paralee Pond Rogers, who came to Missouri in 1866 from Illinois. The mother died Feb. 19, 1936, and the father about twenty years before that. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers lived their entire married life on a farm south of Novelty and would have observed their 65th wedding anniversary next week. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Novelty Christian Church.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 13 sisters and brothers, five of whom preceded their mother in death and were Arrenor Kreiger, Ellen Arment, Sanford O. Rogers and two sisters in infancy, and also Mrs. Essie McNeil, Mrs. Eulala Lowary, James A., William S., Joseph C., Austin T., Arvie B., and Zera F. Rogers.

Blachly, passed away at her daughter's home in San Bernardino last Sunday morning.Mr. Blachly, who had received word of her serious illness had rushed to California to see her and was able to be with her at the last.The body was brought to Haven, arriving Wednesday morning. Lance "Tip" Rogers was born in Scranton, Kansas to Robert Rogers and Isabelle Rogers on Jan 8, 1886. He married Grace Adeline Denning on Oct 17, 1925 in Carol, County (sic), Missouri. He and Grace moved to Auburn, Illinois in 1925. Before Grace and Lance had married he had came to Auburn, Illinois and worked the coalmines in Auburn. When he and Grace were married they relocated to Auburn, Illinois and had to live in a tent in what was a tent city in Auburn because of lack of housing to house coalminers. In fall of 1925 Lance and Grace moved back to Richmond, Missouri and Lance and Charlie Denning and Brack Johnson went to Barber School. After graduation he and Grace moved back to Auburn, Illinois and moved into the Auburn Hotel on the east side of the square. Next door to the Hotel was a funeral home owned by a Mr. Vancel. He moved his business out of Auburn and Grace and Lance bought the building opening up the "Rogers Barbershop". Grace and Lance had two children born in the living quarters behind the barbershop. Phyllis and Donald.

He passed away March 17, 1950. Closing all business in Auburn for his funeral.

LAST RITES HELD MONDAY FOR "TIP" ROGERS, LOCAL BARBER

All business houses closed Monday afternoon, during the funeral of Lance "Tip" Rogers, local barber, who died Friday morning, March 17, at his home. Mr. Rogers had been in ill health for several years, but was able to do part time barbering until several weeks ago when he was confined to his bed.

He was born in Scranton, Kansas, January 8, 1886, the son of Robert and Isabelle Rogers. In 1918 he came to Illinois and workded as a miner and a barber. Twenty-five years ago he was married to Grace Denning in Carlton, Mo.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Mrs. Isabelle Pacotti, Pawnee; Phyllis and Donald at home; a brother, Alex, Richmond, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Willows, Scranton, Kans., one granddaughter, Mary Lou Pacotti, Pawnee. A son Lance, jr., died in 1931.

The body was removed to the Masterson Funeral home in Taylorville and taken to the residence Saturday afternoon. Services were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Auburn Baptist Church, with Rev. Norval Richardson officiating. Burial was made in the Auburn Cemetery.

Attending the funeral were these out-of-town relatives: Alex Rogers and children, Lila and Richard, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Denning, Irvin Denning, George Denning, Brack Denning(This was listed in obit as Brack Denning it should of Been Brack Johnson), Mrs. Mary Kraft and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Coffer and son, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Pierce and daughters, Mrs. Alice Denning, Junior Denning, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fagg,(Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fagg was listed in obit of being from Richmond, Mo. But they were from Springfield, Illinois) all of Richmond, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Maniley of Kansas City, Mo.

He was buried in March 1950 at Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Sangamon Co., IL, Findagrave #16352781.
