Reuben Beery was born on 9 June 1832 at Ohio.1 He was the son of Joseph Beery and Barbara Miller. Reuben Beery married Sophia Etta Schwartz, daughter of Henry Schwartz, circa 1854 at Ohio. Reuben Beery died on 20 May 1863 at Leavenworth Co., KS, at age 30 Biography (findagrave.com):

Reuben Beery, was a native of Fairfield Co, Ohio. In 1848 he went to California, crossing the plains with an emigrant train & taking a bunch of horses overland. In California he engaged in prospecting & mining & after 6 years returned east with $6,000 in cash. He was then 22 years of age. In Ohio he married & then bought a section of land where South Des Moines, Iowa, stands. For that he paid $2.50 an acre. A 1/4 of it he gave to his brother-in-law in order to induce him to settle with him. After a few years he became dissatisfied, sold his land for just what it had cost him to his brother-in-law, Charles Good, & moved down into Kansas, locating 5 miles west of Ottawa on Appanoose Creek. He lived with the pioneers in that locality until his death, which occurred during the Civil war. Reuben Beery married Sophia Schwartz, daughter of Henry Schwartz. The Schwartz's & the Beery's were both of German ancestry & the former came from Switzerland. Reuben Beery & wife had the following children: Mollie C., who married William Linnville & died at Pana, Illinois; Alice, wife of Howard Riley, living at Tower Hill, Illinois; Charles, of Belpre, Kansas; Iddo O., of Morton County, Kansas. After her husband's death Mrs. Reuben Beery sold her Kansas property & returned to Ohio.

He was buried in May 1863 at Centropolis Cemetery, Centropolis, Franklin Co., KS, Find A Grave Memorial# 50265247.
