TEACHER SUFFERS SKULL FRACTURE

Miss Ethel Rinker Injured While on Sightseeing Trip in Grand Canyon

TAYLORVILLE, Aug. 23 – Miss Ethel Rinker, teacher in the Memorial Junior High school suffered a fractured skull when she was knocked from a donkey that she was riding through the grand canyon in Arizona, according to word received by her brother H. R. Rinker, city, today. Miss Rinker was removed to a nearby hospital in an unconscious condition. She will be able to return home in two weeks.

The automobile was driven by an Indian. He was captured several hours after his car struck the school teacher. A bottle, half filled with liquor, was found in his car. He was arrested and sentenced to 40 days in jail and fined $100. Miss Rinker was visiting Mrs. Leonore Drennan Myers in Windsor, Ariz., when the accident occurred.

Ethel Nora Rinker died on 15 June 1964 at age 85. She was buried in June 1964 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, Christian Co., IL, Findagrave #152045131.

     John Rinker was born in 1830 at Shenandoah Co., VA.1 He was the son of Benjamin Dellinger Rinker.1 John Rinker married Delilah Maxon on 22 May 1856 at Clark Co., OH; this marriage broke up sometime after the 1860 census and before the summer of 1870, when Delilah was listed living at Tremont Station in Clark County, Ohio, with a young married couple, Henry and Sarah Wise, in her household. John Rinker was not found in the 1870 census -- he had apparently abandoned Delilah and remarried by then. A legal divorce may or may not have occurred. Delilah remarried to Frederick Jenkins (1839 - 1912) on 13 MAR 1877, Clark County, Ohio. DLB 2021.

John Rinker lived on 17 July 1860 at German Twp., Clark Co., OH.2 He married Cyrena Sutton, daughter of Asher Holmes Sutton and Martha E. Stutler, in 1868 at Ohio, per her newspaper obituary.
